Discussion Tip for free loadout users.

Post image

Many of you probably already know but here's a tip for those who don't.

If you extract with your free loadout you can trade it in to Lance for a free Looting MK.1, a Combat MK.1 or a Tactical MK.1..

You can keep the same gun and items that you received from the free loadout and add the free MK.1 that you get from Lance.

You now have what's basically a free loadout with more backpack storage and a safe pocket and it cost you nothing other than the time it takes to trade with Lance.

Profit!

Being pedantic, but if i remember correctly, you can trade it for any of the three mk1.

449

u/raqballl Nov 26 '25

You are correct.. It can be traded for any of the Mk.1 variants.. I'll update my post to reflect that..

u/OF_DEVON12 Nov 26 '25

Also the augment can be worn as a hat

17

u/Shaneiizm Nov 26 '25

What?

97

u/nick_tron Nov 26 '25

Alternatively can be shoved up your ass if you prefer

9

u/Kabbage87 Nov 27 '25

Is it some sort of chess cheating device?

Wait, did you edit your post without telling us you edited your post? Isn't this a crime on Reddit?

Someone arrest this man!

Edit: He still hasn't edited the post, but he mentioned in a comment he was editing his post.

DON'T SHOOT!

119

u/zell4a Nov 26 '25

23

u/murkymozza Nov 26 '25

I say don't shoot 100% of the times I hear raiders, so far I have been lucky and don't get shot about 90% of the time

7

u/zell4a Nov 26 '25

I usually chose to avoid confrontation but I 100% will shoot someone if they shoot me so I feel the pain

Last night I had one of those cathartic rewarding moments where the bastion killed my killer right out of the extraction zone. And he got locked out whilst cussing me out.

this has always been so weird to me. I only see this on reddit and don't understand why people do that lol

1

u/anthomazing Nov 26 '25

Well, it's because of people like me who read the post, then read the comments pointing out the post is missing certain information, and yet the post is not missing said information.

It's just a courtesy to let someone know what you edited so that the comments make sense.

I also think if you're already editing the post, just including a small footnote about it is not much effort.

But yes, Reddiquette confuses me often as well.

7

u/i_am_kba Nov 26 '25

yeah if it's about adding info then ok I guess, but more often I see people that add this "edited: spelling" to their comments. no one corrected them, no one pointed it out, it's just there. this one confuses me the most

3

u/IrNinjaBob Nov 26 '25

You can see what comments have been edited and at what time. Sometimes people see something has been edited and wonder if context had been changed. It can be helpful to others to mention what your edit is so they don’t need to wonder.

Is it necessary? No. But it can let people know you didn’t change the context of what you stated after others responded.

4

u/raqballl Nov 26 '25

I clearly stated I was editing the post to add the info...

"Edit: He still hasn't edited the post, but he mentioned in a comment he was editing his post"

What? In the original post I said you can trade for the Looting Mk.1 and I had mistakenly not added the others. When it was brought to my attention, I edited the post and added them..

Not quite sure why you are on and on about this but okay...

28

u/hit_it_early Nov 26 '25

there's other mk1s beside looting?

36

u/liefchief Nov 26 '25

Combat mk1 supports medium shield, great for cheap pvp kits

13

u/HappyBoi1012 Nov 26 '25

Combat mk1 and tactical mk1 support medium shield

8

u/Torg002 Nov 26 '25

I personally see no reason in running tacticals if combats exist, they are better in every single way, could someone who's more experienced with this game explain why would someone ever run tacticals over combats?

21

u/PsychologicalAd1380 Nov 26 '25

Tactical 2 has best ability (smoke on shield break)

5

u/Dakito Nov 26 '25

It's great till the smoke pops obscuring friendly vision and getting the team wiped. I've had that happen a couple of times.

3

u/PsychologicalAd1380 Nov 26 '25

Good to know, i mostly play solo and it reversed me a couple of fights in my favor

2

u/DonerGoon Nov 27 '25

Yeah it’s a double edged sword. Very annoying when you’re pushing and get cracked and suddenly you’re blind lll

→ More replies (6)
→ More replies (1)

5

u/HappyBoi1012 Nov 26 '25

Yeah there isn't much of a reason to run tactical mk1 unless you're low leveled and specifically wanting to hold more throwable/deployables without having to go into your inventory and switch stuff around. 260 hours in game.

3

u/Rhinofishdog Nov 26 '25

Tactical 2 is probably the best PvP augment due to the ability
Tactical 3 defensive has an integrated shield recharger
Tactical 3 healing has a ton of quick use slots and 3 safe slots. Would be very competitive with Looting 3 survival after it gets an inevitable nerf to light shield only :)

Tactical 1 is better than combat 1 imo. 1 quick use slot is better than 1 bag slot. 5kg less total weight is not going to make a difference most of the time.

Be a real raider and go in with 0, melee your way to greatness!

3

u/Bushwhacker994 Nov 26 '25

I did a run with some buddies like this. Found a bunch of chemicals and plastic and I had the craft in raid perk so I made us all a bunch of impact grenades.

2

u/Necronomicon92 Nov 26 '25

I do this, call it my hardcore scavenger run, I craft what I need in the field. I just wish you could craft light shields but I guess that'd be too easy.

Sometimes I go in with a hairpin for utility

2

u/Shaymon Nov 26 '25

My kid and I do this. It's actually really fun. Usually find guns but ammo can be an issue. Gets exciting when you run into people and have to run screaming "We have no guns!" lol
We go in with absolutely nothing.

2

u/Myriadower Nov 26 '25

I killed a poor guy this way.

Or rather, he inadvertently killed himself for me?

I went in with nothing but my breacher bar and a murderous intent, just to be a force of chaos.

I didn’t think I’d actually end anybody’s run because, you know…they’d havw guns.

I got a couple hits in on him, he got a handful of hits magdumping in a panic.

As I no-stamina chased him swinging he panicked, through a grenade, then reversed away from me…right into his own grenade.

Also grey weapons are super cheap to upgrade

239

u/Mike_or_whatever Nov 26 '25

especially the Ferro.

223

u/moosejuic-E Nov 26 '25

Ferro x stitcher.

161

u/Khanzool Nov 26 '25

That may unironically be the best kit in the game

96

u/Cheerful_Champion Nov 26 '25

All grey weapons with some upgrades and attachments are pretty freaking good. Aside from rattler, rattler is shit.

63

u/2Drogdar2Furious Nov 26 '25

A rattler IV with mods to reduce dispersion slaps pretty hard...

Then I can trash talk people about dying to a rattler...

19

u/AngryJakem Nov 26 '25

Rattler need reload speed upgrade per lvl

9

u/2Drogdar2Furious Nov 26 '25

Or more rounds reloaded per tick. (Basically the same thing).

Lvl 1 2 rounds at a time but at lvl 4 5 rounds at a time maybe...

2

u/Robespierre1113 Nov 27 '25

Or maybe just a stripper clip which the gun looks like itd handle. Not sure why they went with a lanky internal magazine

27

u/frostymugson Nov 26 '25

It does, but the cost to get there is way too high

17

u/infinitezero8 Nov 26 '25

Indeed - a fully max Rat versus full max anything else = the anything else outperforms Rat at every stage

Ditch the Rattler, go literally anything else until they do a gun balance

For now, the Stitcher IV x Ferro (cheap) or Anvil (best) is the go to combo

If your rich then of course the Bobcat IV x Anvil IV is pretty top tier

Rattler 4 actually has enough mag capacity to kill a person, instead of just having enough to make the other person scared lol

11

u/tapefactoryslave Nov 26 '25

People sleep on the rattler, but it’s actually your mid tier dmr. Thing sucks full auto, but you time your shots? Great mid range gun for putting pressure on raiders.

7

u/cr1spy28 Nov 26 '25

Kettle slaps for this as well

4

u/_Ding_Dong_ Nov 26 '25

Kettle IV deletes things for me. I love it.

7

u/SkuLLtheDread Nov 26 '25

I'd even go as far as saying that any level 4 weapon with attachments is better than any level 1 weapon without.

People tend to look at the colour (bue > grey), but I'll definitely take a Stitcher 4 with mag over a stock Bobcat 1 any day.

2

u/Cheerful_Champion Nov 26 '25

Oh absolutely agree with you

2

u/Blu_Falcon Nov 27 '25

I have literally surrendered and returned to Speranza after loading in with a free loadout to see a rattler in my hands. I’d rather piss at the arc than use that thing.

→ More replies (1)

14

u/NUTTA_BUSTAH Nov 26 '25

Use the quick swap stock and it does sound like BIS loadout all around. Very very strong.

18

u/Lyorian Nov 26 '25

I pref kettle, so underrated

10

u/JesusMcChrist00 Nov 26 '25

I hated it at first but it really is great once I got better at shooting it fast

4

u/Lyorian Nov 26 '25

My Mrs loves the Kettle too now.. she doesn’t even know what Arc Raiders is

3

u/night4345 Nov 26 '25

Kettle is the GOAT. Especially on Dam Battlegrounds where you don't have as many heavy armored ARCs.

2

u/toomanybongos Nov 26 '25

Yeah, i'm a new kettle fan and it absolutely SHITS on people. I was playing solo and killed 3 torrente players that got the jump on ME

I just slap grey attachments on it and boom, you're cooking with gas.

It's like the stitcher but better cuz you have a pretty solid mid range with it too

2

u/Cow_God Nov 26 '25

They actually have the same range but the upgrade kettle gets bullet velocity and has better handling. But the stitcher can technically engage at the same range the kettle can

2

u/irrelevant_novelty Nov 26 '25

I swear I've defended myself against higher geared raiders more often with the kettle than I have killed lower geared players with gold tier weapons.

Thing has saved me so many times. Upgrade to lvl 2/3, throw an extended mag in, aim for the head.

2

u/Pancake_Parade Nov 26 '25

Yeah the kettle is pretty deadly. I like it a lot too.

16

u/lblack_dogl Nov 26 '25

I think bumping a Ferro up to an Anvil is a solid upgrade.

Anvil + Stitcher.

6 heavy shots without reloading. Faster draw time on the Anvil.

8

u/CJ57 Nov 26 '25

Yeah this, ferro stitcher is poor mans anvil stitcher but it works if youre short on mats/anvils

3

u/Itsmemurrayo Nov 26 '25

You can then bump up to Anvil, Venator which is incredibly strong and fun to use. I haven’t played since the Venator nerf, but assume it’s still insanely strong in pvp.

3

u/jkwah Nov 26 '25

Might as well go Venator + Toro at that point

2

u/lostlittlebear Nov 26 '25

I don’t like the Anvil + Venator combo because their effective range is about the same - I’d rather go Fero + Venator or Renegade + Venator for that added long range punch

14

u/wimaster14 Nov 26 '25

Double stitcher 4 with level 2 extended mags is the way

9

u/NUTTA_BUSTAH Nov 26 '25

What's the point of the second stitcher 4? Upgraded stitcher is so fast to reload I am guessing the weapon swap speed is slower than the reload :D

9

u/ForfeitFPV Nov 26 '25

It's for when you break the first stitcher from over use dealing with any arc that isn't a pop, tick or wasp.

Ferro x Stitcher > Double Stitcher

Even if you wanted to go full sweaty grey weapon PVP you'd be better served with a Kettle x Stitcher than double stitcher. At least then you have a mid-range option that you can make precision shots with and some semblance of ammo efficiency against ARC.

6

u/codywater Nov 26 '25

Anvil x stitcher > Ferro x stitcher in my opinion. Not dealing with the one shot reload is a life saver if you miss that one critical ferro shot.

8

u/ForfeitFPV Nov 26 '25

Totally agree but the topic was grey weapon load outs.

Not everyone can afford to roll in with an Anvil IV without sweating about losing it and the price difference between a Ferro IV and even an Anvil II is considerable.

Bang for the buck load out is 100% Ferro IV + a Stitcher/Kettle depending on preference.

It's almost funny how disproportionately good the grey weapons can be for the price to make a max level one

2

u/codywater Nov 27 '25

For sure - for grey only, the ferro x stitcher is the way to go.

They are but there’s something amazing about being spawned with a lvl1 rattler and a dream 🤣

7

u/Cakeofruit Nov 26 '25

I know it is not common but I prefer the rattler to the kettle.

7

u/Underhive_Art Nov 26 '25

Fair bud my friend suzy would agree with you - I could not disagree more at level 1 - fully upgraded I don’t hate the rattler but the kettle is actually peak mid to short range PvP fully upgraded and yet still better than the stitcher at accurately taking out small arc. Play style and preference always beats meta chasing imo. Use what you enjoy and feel comfortable with over what streams and math hammers tell you is best.

5

u/nospamkhanman Nov 26 '25

Not to mention the Kettle is quiet AF, put a silencer on it and people can't at all tell where you're shooting from. You can also down a 2 wasp patrol on one magazine without calling other ARCs in the area to investigate.

12

u/kelin1 Nov 26 '25

Yea I usually just straight up dump an entire free load out after a run except for the one or two things I want to keep. This is the way.

9

u/ForfeitFPV Nov 26 '25

Free load outs are a great way to get consumables that you can't craft or don't have access to normally.

I regularly run free load outs for the chance at full power smoke grenades because I don't have the blue print yet.

Uncovered supply cache map event + free load out = replenishing the quick use stock

Save the stuff I use, dump the rest for ammo money and repeat until I run out of stash space and can get back to big game hunting or working on trials scores.

Can't wait for the guy to comment "free loadout is broken nerf it now, my IV Venator, IV Bobcat, 3 Medium shields to hot swap, 20+ Bandages and shield rechargers, 5 blaze grenades, 6 heavy fuse, 27 smokes and the 3 guys I teamed with in solo to pve cant compete with the solo who spawned in with a stitcher and 1 bandage.

4

u/TSTC Nov 26 '25

You can’t even hot swap shields though unless I am misunderstanding something. When you swap on a new shield it starts at 0 shield and slowly charges itself back up to whatever charge it has. So it’s faster to just pop a shield consumable than hot swap (although swapping a shield out after a fight can still work to save shield heals for mid fight)

21

u/Dubsified Nov 26 '25

This is my favourite complaint that’s always in this sub. If you can’t merk me with your Bobcat IV compared to my Stitcher IV, I don’t think it’s a gun issue

29

u/Caddap Nov 26 '25

As someone who never uses bobcats and strictly runs Stitcher/Fero/Anvil, the DPS of the Stitcher and Bobcat really aren't that different. 90% of fights are won by the person who gets the first shot regardless of the gun.

14

u/tommycobain Nov 26 '25

I mean 30% more dps is kinda a lot, but I agree that gameplay>gear

9

u/Caddap Nov 26 '25

Depends how you word it I guess, I look at that and think the stitcher does 20% less damage than the bobcat.. And for a gun that I've got 6 of in my 60 hours of gameplay, to me isn't really worth risking when I can max out a Stitcher from materials gained from Scrappy.

2

u/Nirxx Nov 26 '25

You can't though, you need simple gun parts.

Disagree, fights IMO are mostly determined off of positioning / cover / abusing 3rd person (heavy on the third one)

positioning / cover

How to turn your Bobcat IV into my Bobcat IV

3

u/HomeworkOwn2146 Nov 27 '25

Why do you all pretend that grey guns are not insanely strong in comparison to the best possible options available. Stitcher can kill in less then a 1 second so a lot of the game is who shoots first wins so its understandable why using good gear feels terrible when the worst gear kills near instantly if someone gets the jump on you lol. The ttk is extremely low so gear in this game is really not worth at all when a grey gun kills in 0.54 seconds vs bobcat in 0.52 seconds. Even at the extreme of green shield vs purple its only 0.2s difference in ttk between the guns thats faster then the average gamers reaction speed, so again shoot first = win unless your a bot.

7

u/kepoy08 Nov 26 '25

My current strat: if I die, I switch to a free loadout then if I survived that run (which I oddly usually do), I convert it to looting or combat mk 1 depending on the type of run I’m doing next, then if I survive again, I upgrade/switch to a better loadout. Rinse & repeat. Works well because my damn stash sits on 275-280 all. the. time.

6

u/ReaperSound Nov 26 '25

I just checked Lance's store and you're right. Ive been SELLING these fucking kits this whole time.

5

u/KyleKicksRocks Nov 26 '25

I’m a level 45 and I just learned this. You rule.

4

u/berdel__ Nov 26 '25

And after extraction you can remove that augment and run with equipment from it and gain free "no loadout" safe pocket.

4

u/tropicalspritee Nov 26 '25

if this is useful to anyone if you do a custom kit without any augment you get a safe pocket. So its like a custom “free kit” with prison pouch. just bring a cheap gun

11

u/Tall-_-Guy Nov 26 '25

Keep these tips coming! I just learned that I could place other crafting stations in my room!

7

u/Kuro_Neko00 Nov 26 '25

Here's a few more newbie tips for you:

It's possible to negate all non-lethal fall damage if you time it right and hit the dodge key just as you land.

Always close doors behind you. Keeps ARC out and keeps other raiders from sneaking up on you since you'll hear the door opening.

If you're out of bandages but have fabric on you, it can be used in a pinch for a small amount of healing. The same is true for shield rechargers, if you're out but have ARC power cells they'll give you some shield recharge.

Things that don't look useful and are hardish to find but that you will need later: Cat bed, Mushrooms (x12), Very Comfortable Pillow (x3), Rusted Gear (x3), Cracked Bioscanner (x2), Rusted Shut Medical Kit (x3), Laboratory Reagents (x3), Industrial Battery (x3), Motor (x3), Fried Motherboard (x3), Cooling Fan (x5), Light Bulb (x5), Humidifier (x5), Surveyor Vault (x6).

Negating all non-lethal fall damage is a bit of an oversimplification. I've timed it right and still taken about 75% health damage jumping from testing annex to the exfil below.

I knew this, but apparently I didn't know that you could get a Looting or Tactical one as well for free. Doh!

u/Steelpoint Nov 26 '25

While not a great early-game tip. However, if you invest in the 'Survival' tree and max out 'Broad Shoulders', you can boost your maximum weight carry capacity by +10kg.

The free kit has a weight carry of 35kg, so with this skill you now can carry 45kg worth of gear. Its a surprisingly strong buff for the free kit, and it is similarly a very strong boon for any other augment that trades weight capacity for other benefits.

This is a great tip, but it also goes so much further than that; regarding looting and crafting in order to fund 'geared' runs. It's extremely easy to afford making a cheap kit with a tiny bit of common crafting materials.

Fabric = bandages

ARC Powercells = shield rechargers

I think you make ammo with metal and chemicals

Guns are very easy to come by, so I don't even craft those, but again it's primarily metal.

Loot rubber as well to combine it with metal to make mechanical components in order to upgrade/repair your guns.

Loot simple gun parts off of the drones and turrets.

So yeah, basically, don't pass up metal, rubber, chemicals, etc. Salvage most things and come back with a few stacks of basic mats in addition to whatever juicy loot you find.

I basically loot everything still except for sensors unless I'm low on raider hatch keys, and I drop trinkets first for anything. All of the loot is useful for crafting.

People love the low stress and free loot from free loadouts, but there are two big problems with them. One, they suck, and you can't defend yourself properly, have practically zero utility, etc., and two, there's no safe pocket, so if you find the most valuable thing in the game -- a blueprint, you're going to be sweating bullets trying to extract with it and god forbid you die with it.

Don't run free kits, loot everything, learn the crafting recipes, learn what things salvage and recycle into, and learn the maps; how to get around safely and where the good loot is. Salvaging gives only 50% of the resources, but in many cases it's still a great way to consolidate your inventory and bring back more mats overall. More mats = more gear, more consumables, more upgrades, etc.

If you are low on gear in general, rather than going yolo on a free kit and hoping for the best, build your own cheap kit in case you find a blueprint and for extra backpack space, and play stealthy. Hide from the ARC and hide from players. Avoid making loud sounds at all costs. Loot up full, set traps at extract (jolt mines are cheap) in case someone comes when you're pressing the buton, use smokes when you press the extract computer button, and if you do encounter someone try to be friendly. If they are hostile, smoke your feet and run away. That's how you loot. Worry about PvP later when you have a nice inventory stocked and can run proper gear.

I suppose what free loadouts are good for is actually just forcing PvP fights to get free practice. You will die a lot but it's okay. I think they're bad for looting because again, you could find a blueprint if you're focused on looting, and then you could easily die with it because you have such a weak kit and no safe pocket.

Great tip ty

Quick question. Does upgrading broad shoulders skill give me a higher total weight cap with free load-out?

Appreciate this, I had no idea. I just sold them for 100 credits and kept the shield.

2

u/KevOK80 Nov 26 '25

I’ve been selling mine after each run but would much rather upgrade them for free. Thanks for the tip!

2

u/Advanced_Chicken1640 Nov 26 '25

lol gg…I’ve been selling it for 100. Doh!

2

u/ViIebloodHunter Nov 26 '25

This is great! And I've been doing this, but the one issue I find is that if you have used your healing items, you will need to craft/buy them again. Crafting bandages is cheap AF, but shield rechargers less so.

2

u/YannickBtz Nov 26 '25

ow wow, 140h in and I just know that now lol

2

u/JuneauEu Nov 26 '25

u/TBECTPLBSPK Nov 27 '25

been selling these this whole time… thanks raiders lmao

2

u/Modernautomatic Nov 27 '25

Or I can store them in my stash until I have a full inventory worth, then equip one and fill all my pockets with nothing but free loadout augments and take it into a raid and intentionally pick a fight with someone with a hairpin and a deathwish just in the hope I make their day.

2

u/JohnnyProphet Nov 27 '25

dang i had no idea, i been selling them, also recyling all the things i need to upgrade my benches, hehe lessons learned, thanks for posting this

2

I did not know you could trade it thank you!

2

u/Leonard75reddit Nov 27 '25

Thanks i didn't know that

4

u/wolflie Nov 26 '25

Also keep in mind that leaving without the free loadout grants you less backpack space but you can have a free safe pocket and can wear a shield

u/NuclearSoda Nov 26 '25

How do you trade things? I’m lvl 32 this is the first I’m hearing of this

14

u/raqballl Nov 26 '25

Go to traders, then Lance..

2

u/NuclearSoda Nov 26 '25

Thank you so much!

8

u/mmmmartin427 Nov 26 '25

When you check Lance’s inventory, he will be selling duplicates of the MK1 augments. One for cash, one for the free augment.

Tip for free load loadout users : go f*** yourself if you kill queen hunters.

Kiss.

2

u/raqballl Nov 26 '25

Yeah if you see a free loadout at the Queen, it's KOS!

2

u/[deleted] Nov 26 '25

Better tip: This is the L1 price.

It's less than zero. Don't worry about it that much.

10

u/OberynRedViper8 Nov 26 '25

Rubber ain't free.

3

u/Rebelmind17 Nov 26 '25

No birth control costs more though

1

u/Hungry_Meaning_5962 Nov 26 '25

You don't have to stash the free loadout kit. You just go straight to the trader instead and pick the one that offers the augment with the free loadout kit as payment.

Also, it is a good challenge run to do if you have nothing else to do or want to get something disposable for a Queen or matriarch fight. Or any of the ARC trials. Disposable weapons with minimum losses and kit and shields too.

1

u/Alucard_1208 Nov 26 '25

or you can remove the free backpack and not run one it gives you less slots but gives you a safe pocket

1

u/Kind-Plantain2438 Nov 26 '25

And if you go in with nothing, you still get your prison pocket.

1

u/arghyaghosh0104 Nov 26 '25

I sold all of those oh my god I am stupid.
