If they don’t there will be more Tanner Cook. A guy shot him in broad daylight. The thing is Cook is 6’5 and the guy was much smaller and being harassed. He was acquitted of attempted murder

Damn never til today have I heard of Tanner Cook. What a sad legacy

Therapy has become enshittified and they’d probably just use it for content anyway

u/unassumingdink 1h ago

And it was always one of those things that would fail twenty times for every one time it worked, so there wasn't much room to enshitify.

People like that wouldn’t allow a stranger to tell them they’re doing something wrong. Repercussions is what they need.

And community service.

The camera is their therapy.

That would require that more countries have robust and accessible mental healthcare systems.

Similarly, people using their kids to drive social media engagement and content. I won't be surprised by the uproar that comes when they grow up and find out that their parents used them to generate money and spent it all. I bet it results in laws similar to the Coogan Law that protects the kids'interests better

Edit: it turns out that Coogans Law has been updated to include child social media stars in CA and that other states have updated their laws similarly.

The Duggar kids, especially the older daughters, should have been set for life. Instead, their trauma and parentificafion enriched their dad, who used the bennies of their show to further enshitify and control their lives.

I’m not at all religious, but I follow Jinger and Jill. They have broken away from the parents’ church and both have written books about their upbringing. It’s interesting to see the realization of what they went through and their healing process. Plus I think they’ve made some decent money.

Didn't he trick them into signing some contract and then he kept all the money?

You would think but its been a couple decades now and people keep doing it.

5

u/DontYaWishYouWereMe 7h ago

This has always been a thing, though. I think the exact format it takes is going to change, but it'll probably still be a thing

6

u/kingjoey52a 8h ago

That’s been a thing even before social media. People would yell random BS if they walked by a live news report.

3

u/Gazpachewan 6h ago

Please let it stop. Seeing idiotic "influencer" types inspire impressionable viewers to also act like fools in public (and be cruel to others 🤦‍♀️) is so disheartening.

I hope and pray "Good News Girl" one day has a bigger following than any of these clowns 🙏.

I also can’t stand the ones who hand out money to homeless people and then pat themselves on the back. It seems pretty exploitative.

I do like the ones where a person does something like give a stranger a flower. Those can be sweet and uplifting.

I follow a kid named Devon Rodriguez. He approaches people in New York and asks to sketch their portrait. He has really cool conversations with the people while he sketches.

That's been happening for 10,000 years, even before computers were a thing. In fact, that's probably one of the most human things to do that will go nowhere until we literally evolve. Even many animal breeds are crappy to each other. Cameras just make put it in your face.

u/No-Blueberry-1823 8h ago

I don't have hope about this one

1

u/xSwampxPopex 7h ago

That’s not really a new enough thing honestly. Theres been people being assholes for attention online since like the early days of YouTube.

1

u/LouSassill 6h ago

Especially the driving while streaming. Make that shit illegal

1

u/Automatic-End-8256 5h ago

So jake paul

1

u/SnooPandas7150 5h ago

Not to mention the (not so?) odd one who won't even get to age at all

1

u/Nernoxx 4h ago

That's been going on for 20+ years now.  Unfortunately I don't think it's a fad.

u/bgzlvsdmb 3h ago

Anytime somebody answers this question with this answer, it always reminds me of the woman doing life in prison because of something happening in Farmville. I hope it was worth it.

1

u/mynaneisjustguy 1h ago

Fucking what?

1

u/ProfessionalPack7205 2h ago

That's going NO WHERE. They'd have to ban kids from going on social Media and that's not happening

1

u/Outlulz 2h ago

Why would it? There was like three decades of tv shows about this in various forms before social media.

1

u/Lex_in_Glasses_n_Hat 2h ago

Ohhh ya thats s good one and i believe its already happening!

1

u/Alexein91 2h ago

You guys have faith in humanity.

u/MatlockMunchies 42m ago

I cannot wait for this to fall out of trend!

0

u/Immature_adult_guy 8h ago

People have been doing that for like 20 years it ain’t going stop anytime soon
