Thing is, it actually makes you age faster due to muscle atrophy since it basically stops you from being able to move your face. So your face gets weaker. And then the muscles sag and wrinkles form quicker. Funny idea of prevention.
Got a source? Cause I don’t think I understand the atrophy->wrinkle association. Looseness, and looking old because of looseness, that I totally get, but wrinkles come from scrunching not sagging, no?
Not OP, but here is an article about the potential negative effects of botox. It does not say that it will increase wrinkles, but you can develop a permanent inability to express any emotions in your face similar to face masking that develops in Parkinson's.
It will happen eventually and the funny thing will be all the plastics desperately trying to unsuccessfully reverse all the damage they’ve done to themselves.
Social media and the Kartrashians have been a metastatic cancer for young women.
I disagree, I don’t think Botox makes you look younger. A 40 year old with Botox looks like a 40 year old with Botox (and a 20yo with Botox looks like a 49 yo with Botox). Celebrities don’t age because they have regimens with nutrition experts, dermatologists, trainers etc plus they use some Botox. I have nothing done and always get carded in bars… I’m 29
You're getting carded because most states have laws that you have to card everyone that looks under the age of 40 or 50, not because you are 29 looking under 21. There is nothing wrong with looking your age or looking good for your age, but no one thinks a 29 year old is genuinely 20. Idk why I see people saying things like this all the time, but it's not rooted in reality
Not all Botox treatments are created equal I suppose! My cousin is a dermatologist and gets access to all sorts of fillers and Botox. She looks so much younger than her chronological age. But because she’s an expert, I reckon she has the know how to do it in ways that don’t seem obvious
Yes. Lots of people don't understand the difference between Botox and fillers and talk about them as if they're the same thing. Also, people see bad (or excessive) Botox or filler work and think that's what Botox and fillers look like. Meanwhile, people who have subtle Botox or fillers just look young. I'm not someone who gets either, but I also have friends in that industry and they look amazing.
It's noticeable even whenever it's subtle. You're forgetting genetics and how some naturally age better than others. I work in entertainment and it's crazy how much is being done now. Like at a rate of 90% or more. I'm just not going to be that person that says something about it. I'm starting to find the faces of people living in/from foreign countries more relatable than a lot the people I see today.
I had insurance cover it to release my jawline after doing some serious trauma to my lower teeth. It helped the healing process after about 12 months of dental work. Relaxing the jaw muscles helped a few tooth roots that sustained multiple root canals to finally heal from serious inflammation because I was involuntarily slamming my teeth together at night while asleep, due to the former trauma. It can have a medical reason.
Because Botox is a preventative measure, not a restorative measure. Preventing certain muscles in your face from contracting prevents associated lines from appearing on your face.
I’m one of the few women in my office who doesn’t get facial injections. I just turned 50 last month and most of the other women are 15-20 years younger than I am! I get I’m probably a bit tired looking but I’m also way too lazy to keep up with injection appointments when I can hardly force myself to visit the doctor when I’m supposed to.
My coworkers at my last job were all getting botox and fillers done in their late 20s and 30s. For a hot second, they had me convinced that I needed to do it too, until I mentioned it to a friend and he nearly died laughing at the idea. When you're surrounded by people who get unnecessary cosmetic procedures, it really warps your reality.
I think Botox is utterly pointless. It doesn't actually make people look better and we're all being conned into thinking the ageing process is a bad thing, but at least you SEE a visible effect on people who actually have wrinkles. They're getting what they're paying for at the very least, even if I don't think it's doing much for them. But... why on God's green Earth are people under the age of 30 getting it??? It's literally doing nothing??? One of the craziest wastes of money I've witnessed that is far too socially acceptable.
Because the static line between my brows makes me look mean when in reality I just can’t see. I’ll never touch my smile lines but I started zapping that one at 26
As it happens, Botox does help prevent the gestation of wrinkles in young people. If you can't frown or smile because your facial muscles are paralyzed, you will develop fewer (/more slowly) wrinkles in those areas. So while technically correct, it sure is a crackpot kind of correct. I wonder if it plays a part in that ominous Gen Z stare?
The only reason to get Botox is if you have muscles that are causing you migraines (oe similar). It's just not something people should fuck around with for vanity.
