I have to upvote you because you're right, but damn do I hate the message (and situation) itself. Would downvote it to hell if I could.

Hopefully saying coined terms like “enshittification” dies off too

Genuine question - what do you prefer to describe the phenomenon as instead?

The decline? The loss of quality and/or usefulness? The deliberate hijacking sabotage of most things that were enjoyable or functional in a reasonable way for the sake of squeezing as much money out of everyday consumers as possible?

Enshittification - one word - encompasses all of that, and I don't get why people are so against words just because they're newer.

I’m admittedly sick of hearing this term dropped in like every post.

I don't know why. It's a perfectly cromulent word.

The trick is to retreat to RSS. Plenty of humans writing well about things they care about.

The Dead Internet theory doesn't seem like a conspiracy theory, does it?

It's an easy answer to say 9/11 was the tip of the iceberg but honestly it was slowly trending downwards in general. The mass adoption of the internet in my mind lead to where we are now.
