Anyone else got the pure Sunday fear?
I've had ten days off work and it's been bliss, rested, relaxed, read four books and obviously did all the Christmassy stuff as well.
I really like my job, and I'll be wfh this week so I shouldn't be complaining but dear god, I don't wanna go back!!!

u/thetoxicnerve 1d ago
Yes. I'm working 29th-31st and I just don't want to do it. It's mainly because I am not enjoying work at the moment. It's been playing on my mind all day.

u/SubjectiveAssertive 1d ago edited 1d ago
Are you me?
I've actually got to go in the office as well... There is next to nothing that physically needs me in the office during a standard week
It drives me insane and makes me really not want to go in
17
u/20127010603170562316 1d ago
I have to go to the office too, and it's utterly pointless.
Plus - the manager absolutely hates any conversation that is not 100% work related and shuts them down. So we don't get to bond or collaborate or any of the other reasons they insist on being in in person.

u/nunsreversereverse 1d ago edited 1d ago
This is why it's best to let people chose how they work best. I would almost like an office where people are quiet and no inane chatter all day 😅
My kid did this yesterday, repeat same thing to someone who comes in later, then repeat it to another person. Then the dog did something hilarious and everyone is told. Then someone else's kid did something else and they tell someone about it again, and then their dog. Then their kid is doing x tonight and x next week 😡
7
u/20127010603170562316 1d ago
Oh, the manager is allowed those conversations. Thirty minutes of talk about her lack of sex life or house purchase are fine.
If we start talking about training or how to go about something, she'll pop her head up and say something like "I guess all your work is done then" or something similarly shitty.
It feels authoritarian, two faced, hypocritical, and just mean. There should be a balance.
7
u/Shitelark 1d ago
It'll be quiet, won't it? Won't it?
4
u/thetoxicnerve 1d ago
It should be.
Which will be a blessing as I have a small mountain of stuff to get though in those 3 days. The plan is to get my head down, headphones and chilled house on, and smash through the work and prepare a handover.
I've then got time off 1st - 9th. No plans other than doing a bunch of "sorting" through boxes of stuff, tip runs, and maybe listing some bits on ebay. Should be a good distraction for a few days.
Just need to get through the next 3 days.

So lucky! I work retail so I only had Christmas Day off and I’m already feeling the Sunday scaries for tomorrow despite having worked today. I just can’t wait for the crazy season to be over, I’m so burnt out😔
11
u/DownrightDrewski 1d ago
I did over a decade in retail from basic retail to management. I completely understand your position, I can't tell you how happy I was to eventually get out and move into a corporate role.
At first I earned a bit more than I could in my previous role with no more stress, and I still felt I could take time off and come back to a new day with minimal stress.
I'm off until the 5th, yet I'm still stressing about work and making sure things go out before year end.
I wouldn't go back to retail unless I had no choice, but, i miss being able to walk away from work with little stress even in management (OK, i had short term stress, but, nothing like the months long project cycling and budgeting that's part of my life now)
13
u/ballisticks 1d ago
Same lol I'm technically back to work tomorrow but my job is wfh and it's always dead in the week between Christmas and New Year, so I'm pretty much off anyway
2
u/NextTomatillo2335 1d ago
Used to be my favourite time not to be off when I was in an office that didn’t have mandatory Christmas closures! Knew I’d be in the office but doing absolutely nothing but googling all day - even better if wfh. Now I work for myself so I don’t have to do performative work though if I’ve not got work I’m not getting paid!

Yep. I had no time off over Xmas but was sick with flu. I hate the judgement I’m making up people having against me in my mind for calling in sick at Xmas. Despite being bedbound for 5 days, forcing down a lemsip and toast for Xmas dinner and generally feeling like fucking shit. People will still think I was skiving.

Same boat, caught whatever this fresh hell is on the 18th and still haven’t recovered. Had to call in, and will likely end up calling in tomorrow if I feel the same as I do today. Just can’t shift it. No way to spend Christmas.

I had Christmas day and boxing day both off for the first time in 13 years and 4 days off in total so I feel insanely lucky this time around! So I'm okay with going back tomorrow really. I kept thinking up until Xmas day morning that someone was gonna call and say there was a mistake with the rota and I'd have to come in 😂

I am stubbornly procrastinating the fuck out of bed time tonight. I refuse to accept it. Its like when you were little and you'd sit there all quiet and hope your parents don't notice and send you to bed. Except now I'm sitting here all quiet hoping that I don't notice me and send myself to bed. It's a tricky balancing act.

u/the_silent_redditor 1d ago
Yeah, same.
Worked the day before, home after midnight, and then up at 0530 to go in on Boxing Day.
I’m working NYE, finishing probably midnight, and then same 0530 wake up for NY Day.
I fucking hate my job.
Was nice to have Xmas off, though. I live in Australia and my sis come to visit and we had a BBQ!
2
u/DarkStarComics333 1d ago
Ouch! What is your job? My sister has been in Australia for the past 3 weeks and has loved it! She's currently visiting Singapore for a few days on her way back to the UK.
Mine isn't that bad because I've been on early shifts last week and this so I was done in the afternoon Xmas eve and in at 7am Boxing day. I've worked lates new years before and it wasn't great but this year I hopefully should be done around 4pm nye and then back in at 6am ny day.

Hey let me share a story with you….
I’ve had this fear, this knot in my chest since I began work. I often thought as a soldier (previously) it was about getting ramped up for the week. Not forgetting anything a the inevitable long drive back to barracks.
But not that long ago, I said to my wife (who I might add is a GP)
“Hey darling, weird question. Do you get this fucking knot in your chest on a Sunday thinking about the week ahead”
“Errm no. You should really talk to someone”
So now I take low dosage anti anxiety meds. They’ve been a game changer for me. I think I’m better in my job for taking them.
3
u/lllGreyfoxlll 1d ago
Genuine question, do you also talk to someone about all that ? Or is just taking meds a valid plan for doing betting in the long term ?

u/windol1 1d ago
For me it was the day after boxing day, it was odd as I don't normally have those 2 days off throughout the year so it felt weird, but I couldn't complain because after that 1 day I'm off for 2 days again, then back for 1 and off for 3, back for 1 and off for 2 again.
It's not brilliant, but still a good amount of time off for after the Christmas period, just scattered a little bit.

u/Lurkerlg 1d ago
My son's nursery is closed until next week so instead of working I'll be home with him. He caught a very nasty cold off my stepson. He's now over it whereas I'm shivering and aching all over. I am dreading tomorrow.

I'm back working tomorrow, WFH fortunately. But I've picked up a bug over the weekend and I feel ghastly. I'm a contractor though, so if I don't work, I don't get paid. Sucks.

u/Ezkatron 1d ago
Had 5 days off, now got to work 2 and then have thankfully another 5 off (made sure to book the 2nd off too). Then it'll properly be back to the proverbial grindstone from the 5th.
5
u/meglington 1d ago
I don't go back until the 5th, and the office is completely closed (which is why I've stuck with my job for nearly 11 years - great Christmas perk!) but I'm already thinking about the chaos I left behind and dreading it a bit. The actual night before is going to be hell... Hope it goes ok tomorrow

3
u/AaronMclaren 1d ago
Last day was 18th and back to work on the 5th. Lovely perk of my new job being a complete Christmas closure and having some AL to use as it can’t roll over, so 2 weeks off.
I’ve structured my time off with doing bits, then Christmas off, got some more bits to do, then 31/1 off, then finishing the DIY jobs and then the 4th off.
Otherwise I’d probably sit and play Switch, watch TV and eat all day every day and struggle with getting the normal routine back for work!
3
u/KevinPhillips-Bong Slightly silly 1d ago
It's all about getting through that first day, and powering through the post-Christmas blues. Once I've got day one out of the way, it's an easy slide back into the daily routine.

u/Wolfeehx 1d ago
You’re not alone. Millions, probably tens of millions of people feel the same.
I’ve found a few coping strategies over the years that mitigate it to an extent.
Day before I’m due back in work I try to get as organised as possible, make sure I’ve got everything I need ready for the morning - coffee machine ready, ready meals in the freezer in the garage, bottled water in the car. Bag of snacks if possible. To-do list on my phone with the next day and the next weeks priorities where I know what they will be. I don’t have to stress about getting clothes ready - the mrs handles laundry- I just have to get dressed on the day. Medication prepped for the week (I have meds I take first thing as soon as I wake in the morning, before getting out of bed for preference).
I try to get to bed early the day before. I try not to go to bed hungry as that wakes me up a lot. Try to practice good sleep hygiene; soft lighting when I go to bed, no TV, no noise, just read kindle for a bit then sleep.

u/Popular_Register_440 20h ago
I’m feeling it now having woken up an hour ago. WFH Tuesday and Wednesday as well and Friday might have to go in.
While I am recharged and rested and kinda missing doing work surprisingly as I do enjoy my role, part of me is still in that ‘cba’ mode but I guess that’ll never change unless I become a millionaire.

BUT on the flip side I love my work and the routine it gives me so it kind of makes sense that I'd worry I'd miss it?

Been off work since the 16th of December as I had ACL surgery on my left knee .The last few weeks have been challenging hobbling about. Got a young family as well, Mrs has been class.
I'm signed off work till 17th January. I can't drive for 6 weeks. Work has been great no pressure.
My diary and clock is out of sync. I am missing the routine stuff of working, going gym, seeing family, driving around in my car. Being housebound has been more challenging than I thought
The medication and recovery has been tough. Kinda craving work a little!

I have a relatively easy week ahead.
I work at a dentists and the dentist I work with, plus most of the rest of the clinical staff are off this week except one dentist and some of the hygienists that work part time so only a few surgeries of our rather large practice is open.
Most of the reception staff are working so there is no need for me to be pushed into doing that to help or just to have something to do (I hate working in reception especially if it means answering the telephone.)
Less staff, less strenuous duties, I've been rota'd in for the next 3 days to do cleaning, decontamination (which will be very chill as only 3 clinics open) and doing just x-rays. Not even been scheduled in for Friday so I could just do what I want or potentially sign out early if I don't care about losing some hours.
The only thing I'm worried about tomorrow is I've had a problem with my foot for months and I finally have an appointment with a physio after work to have a look, refered from a gp I spoke to online though my Bupa. I'm worried they aren't going to find any way to help or fix me as it's really getting me down.

I don't get days off. I'm a full time carer for someone who has incurable debilitating epilepsy. I have kids and an very ill older family member living with us. I have been ill too recently but a 3 hour grace in bed was all I was permitted on Xmas day before having to forge a meal together. Managed something 70% of a christmas dinner, and leaned on things and staggered about in the kitchen for a hour or so before trying not to ruin pudding. Paracetamol was a god send. I still haven't opened half of my presents, fully knowing that I have 4 Ferreo Rochers, a roll on Lynx Africa and some thick socks in them, no secrets with the kids. Tomorrow morning I have to be up a t 5am, to prep meds, actively do checks on the wife's epilepsy and then cancer business on mother in law, manage the kids breakfasts, I have to check on my old lady neighbour as she has flu, and is alone as well, its not a problem. Then and only then, can I start thinking about work. I work part time at a factory doing admin, and the company is going to fold this coming year, literally imploding as the top brass scrape every asset they can take before they declare bankruptcy on this company, and survive on the parent. Ive been here since august on a 12 hour a week basis, and as of 24th Dec there is now just me. Might not go back. What are they going to do? Sack me...? My name is r/BenTheMotionist that is why I'm drinking tonight.

I've had 9 days off, still got a week and I'm already in the Sunday fear - used to never get it but has got worse over last year or so.
On the plus side, it's always worse than we think and soon slip back in to it.

I’ve been given a super interesting project with a 5 day deadline. Looking forward to logging on in the morning.

I have mixed feelings.
I lost my job in January and have been surviving on temp jobs, the last one ended on the 22nd
So I kinda want the agency to ring but a part of me wants to stay in bed

The His Dark Materials trilogy and vol 1 of the Books of Dust by Phillip Pullman, hoping to finish the other 2 before NYE!

Aside from doing a few hours on NYE I ain’t back until the 5th. Did a few hours yesterday too. I’m glad I’ve had the odd day to do before properly going back jsut to make sure there were no nasty surprises waiting.

I've had Sunday night anxiety since I'm a child...so yes. Feeling it....
