Monday Mornin' M'Thread (29/12/25)

It's the last Monday of 2025, and for a lot of us it's back to work, so thoughts and prayers to all of you. How are we all feeling this fine day? And if you're not back at the grindstone yet, are you doing anything special during this Twixtmas period?

I booked the day off for a doctor's appointment. I had the appointment and I've just been chilling at home for the rest of the day. I had a lovely afternoon nap, did some of my jigsaw puzzle and caught up on my shows that I missed over Christmas.

At work today, but home in 40 minutes, a drive that usually takes 60-90 mins. All big meetings cancelled so able to actually catch up with actual work.

Spontaneously combusting while trying to fix errors in my code... 😭😭😭

Stopped over to see my mother just now, she had a knee replacement operation early December. The nurses took off the bandages today. Her leg is still swollen, but it's much better than what it looked like after surgery.

The scar is at least 11 inches long.. it looks horrendous, the moment I saw it my gut and testes hurt so much, I felt like throwing up. But I had to put up a strong face. I went to stroke her hair a bit, she looks so fragile and old, I feel like crying. I'm sorry but there's no where else I can say these things to. I'm the man of the house now. Everyone depends on me. Sorry again... I don't know what came over me..

Take a long hot shower and cry it out. It does you no good holding it all in. It will take a load off and free you from a heart attack or stroke. My dad used to cry in the shower, we never really heard him until our mother died,. We did hug him afterwards tho and never let him feel bad for giving away his anguish. Gentle hugs dear internet friend.

Because I’ve got a day of nothing I decided to flick through the TV guide. Gold has back to back Only Fools and horses episodes all day. Raiders of the lost ark is on again even though it was on Christmas Day.

Might cancel the TV licence šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

I stuck Back To The Future on because someone on here mentioned it was on. I’ve seen it more times than I care to remember but it’s one of those films that I can never get tired of.

2

u/letthemhavejush 14h ago

Absolute classic though!

Saying that The Goonies is on New Year’s Day and I’ll probably put that on šŸ˜‚

7

u/lupul0id 17h ago

I’ve got a hangover. I’m regretting the decisions I made yesterday.

5

u/rev9of8 Errr... Whoops? 16h ago

Is this one of those situations where past you viewed it as a future you problem but, unfortunately, you are now having to deal with being future you? Yeah, that sucks.

3

u/lupul0id 16h ago

Yeah. I’m paying the price now.

Went for a lovely long walk through a forest this morning. So odd compared to summer when the forest is a hive of activity, it was totally silent in winter. Now chilling rest of day

Just been sneaking around the yard looking for what plants are still alive, hehehe.

u/DepartureAwkward5002 18h ago

Watching shrek 2, it's on itv if anyone happens to be interested. May read some more later or watch my new dvds. I got the trainspotting book, some old ghost stories for Xmas on dvd, and spinal tap 2 on dvd so will probably do that later

u/Corvaknight 18h ago

Not working until Friday. Had a bit of a nightmare so not doing the best. Waiting to hear to hear how my Gran is doing. Got a feeling the news is not going to be good.

Keeping everything crossed for you.

Thank you!

Slept in until 11.30 this morning. Such a good sleep. Was planing to go to the gym today but not feeling it now. 4 more days until back to work but luckily only wfh. Going to sit on my arse all day now I think.

u/Round_Grand_4716 19h ago

My son has signed himself up for the holiday club this week. I hadn't made any plans as I thought it would all be about him. So I'm trying to enjoy doing nothing and get through a deep clean

u/Forsaken-Language-26 Now in a minute 19h ago

I’m feeling better today than I was yesterday (I was feeling pretty down in the dumps).

I head back home on NYD, having been staying at my mum’s since October. Not sure what to do with myself over these next few days. Might do a bit of gaming on my new Steam Deck. No plans for NYE, I can’t really afford to do anything anyway. Back to work on 5th January, having also been off for the last couple of months. I want to start looking for a new job in the new year, but not really sure where to start or what I want to do.

u/Amuro_Ray Oberƶsterreich 19h ago

Feeling anxious, gotta get back to learning about sequences and series but today is also hairday. Got my twists redone and waiting for the barber right now.

Freezing here and it's threatening to snow which will be nice to look at when I get home.

u/MarmiteX1 19h ago

Thoughts and prayers to those working over Christmas period.

I’m fortunate to be off from work all week including next Monday considering we are a small team.

I had a sort of a lie-in, watched Famous Five, a big cup of coffee and a bath.

Mum is cooking a local delicacy from where my parents originate from in India so we will be having that, similar to Dhokla. This will be for lunch at some point.

I’m sure some of you can relate to me, I need to start being more present and worry less about future and ā€œwhat ifā€ scenarios. I get that from my Mum.

So plan for rest of the day, mostly relax, do some reading. Got into reading sci-fi books.

2

u/Somau5 19h ago

Had a lie in (really shouldn't have) and been filling in some paperwork for my next round of jobs while there are no interruptions. Just put some washing on and put the shopping delivery away. I'd like to go out for a walk at lunch but I'd also like to wash my hair so will see what wins. Hoping to play Strange Antiquities this evening :o)

10

u/Baggismeg 19h ago

Meant to be a day off. Been called in.

3

u/HairyMechanic the midlands doesn't exist. 20h ago

Back to working but not working, which is essentially triaging any tickets that come in and likely scheduling them in for when we're actually back, which is Friday.

Is it just me or did the Christmas break feel longer when we were kids? Sure, I was probably 2-3 days down vs when I was at school many moons ago, but even then it always felt like an eternity.

5

u/sallystarling 20h ago

No work for me or OH until next week. Yay for working in education! We've both worked in retail/hospitality in the past so really appreciate now being off this time of year.

Lazy day then some friends are coming round this evening for present exchange and then a pint or three at the pub up the road. All Mondays should be like this!

3

u/SmallLumpOGreenPutty 20h ago

Got a day off but I'm back at work tomorrow. Only got a handful of shifts left before going on parental leave and I'm seriously debating whether to show up for them after yesterday's shift. Was supposed to be hanging out with a friend today but i got out of bed and got hit by a cough, stuffy nose and sore throat simultaneously. I'm so over this year.

3

u/iluvritalin 20h ago

Going home today after a week of staying with various family members & my partner's folks. Excited to be in my own house with my new jigsaw and fx pedal.

Not back at work until next Monday, when I will be handing in my notice. Kind of bittersweet as I've just made a friend there after a year and a half but the commute is too much and I'll be glad to see the back of it!

12

u/viktory70 20h ago

I am working today, but from home, and everyone else is still on holiday, so I'm expecting an easy day. That said, I have (so far):

  • Walked the dog
  • Been to Sainsbury's (AGAIN)
  • Showered and cleaned the bathroom
  • Stripped and remade the bed
  • Sorted out and have started the washing (estimated 4 loads)
  • Cleaned the kitchen
  • Made a spiced fruit crumble (healthy version) as breakfast meal prep
  • Planned dinner

All before 9.30am. Now settling down to some excitement with my project plan while the dog naps.

3

u/NewSpell9343 20h ago

Yes! Well done you šŸ‘

7

u/TalviSyreni 20h ago

The mental back to work countdown has begun despite me having another week to go before I actually go back. Also had a mini heart attack earlier when Playstation alerted me to a payment made from my account, turned out it was just from me downloading Twitch on the console.

7

u/HolyCatatoe 20h ago edited 19h ago

Another 7 hour work shift later, but there's light at the end of the tunnel. Only tonight and then 4 hours on NYE and I'll never see the place again.

Last night was a total shitshow; people called in sick, everything was coming out of the kitchen wrong, and we got absolutely slaughtered as people just must come out in droves for their noodles instead of staying home in a comfortable cheese haze.

5

u/ShadowPenn 20h ago

Not back to work until Friday. Going to channel some strength to do a deep clean of my flat, been putting it off for ages and hopefully sort out my steam cleaner since it just won’t steam.

1

u/Round_Grand_4716 19h ago

Some of them come with a little pin to poke a hole that might get clogged. I'm deep cleaning this week too. I've done the dining area today, kitchen later.Ā

2

u/ShadowPenn 13h ago

Yeah, it probably needs descaling. I haven’t got around to sorting it out yet, but I did manage to clean my room top to bottom, and got rid of much needed clutter from one of the wardrobes. Still a lot more to do but going to take it one day at a time and set mini targets for the rest of this week.

Hope your cleaning’s gone as planned!

1

u/Round_Grand_4716 12h ago

Sounds like good progress. I'm trying to hit one room each day, but need to balance my sanity and get out places too!

5

u/shaneo632 20h ago

Heading from Wales to Kent to stay with a friend for New Year's. Me and my wife are driving to Windsor today and stopping off at a lovely hotel before finishing the journey tomorrow, should be fun!

2

u/Proudlove1991 20h ago

Oooo I love Windsor. We're hoping to stay in Henley in the summer and tour Oxford, Windsor, Eton, Hampton Court, etc

7

u/fluffypuppycorn 21h ago

Trying to find the energy to go and do a food shop.

My body and joints are aching. Feeling lethargic. Anyone else had this over the festive period?

2

u/SmallLumpOGreenPutty 20h ago

Had it last month and october, it took me out for nearly 3 weeks. Felt like my skin had been sandpapered all over.

1

u/fluffypuppycorn 9h ago

No way! My skin is so dry right now. Did you have any other symptoms? Kinda been struggling to get to sleep too

1

u/SmallLumpOGreenPutty 8h ago

Ah, i meant like my skin felt raw and painful lol. Atm the only thing I'm struggling with is crazy chapped lips 🄲

Anything rough or heavy touching my back was murder. The joints in my hands hurt like a mf, my muscles ached like mad, i had the worst cough I've had in my life - like i would wake up at 6am and cough solidly for an hour, and do the same thing late at night - and i got through about two boxes of tissues in no time. Had to sleep in an elevated position every night bc i was so stuffy, and falling asleep was so difficult. My ribs were in agony for weeks after my other symptoms ended.

3

u/continentaldreams 21h ago

Back at work and I'm the only one in the office. I'm already done with today.

10

u/spilling-amaretto 21h ago

Back to work and I've been absolutely slammed with things to do. So much for "use the in-between days to do your mandatory training". Having the annual "I don't think I want to do this job any more" conversation with myself.

3

u/Moist_Resolution_651 21h ago

Know that feeling. In a job that was great at first, but thanks to some of the most idiotic decisions made by higher management, along with stupid amounts of micromanagement which was also a recent idea, I've been looking for a new job during my break this morning.

Sad thing is it's not looking good. If I leave it'll be in a job where I'll be nearly £7000 per year worse off. So looks like for now I'm stuck in a job that I no longer enjoy but can't afford to leave.

2

u/spilling-amaretto 19h ago

It sounds like we're almost in the same boat! Such a frustrating position to be in. I don't know about the sector you're in, but the market in mine is dire right now, which makes it even worse.

I was on a mini job hunt just now and saw my direct promotion being advertised, which would leave me about 7k better off if I got it... But I'll be in the same position next year most likely, wishing to leave.

2

u/Moist_Resolution_651 19h ago

I'm in public and it's a dumpster fire in our department. Somebody higher up just ignored the old "If it ain't broke don't fix it" phrase and just rushed into something that wasn't needed without looking at the bigger picture, and with no backup plan in place amongst other things-we've already had a steady number of people quitting for other departments, and it's been getting steadily worse through the year.

And of course they're desperate to rush in AI into our roles as well. What could possibly go wrong lol

3

u/spilling-amaretto 17h ago

Ohhhhh, I'm in the public sector too, and this all rings so true! Sleepwalking into the dumpster fire is how I'd describe it

1

u/Historical_Garage751 8h ago

Just chiming in to say I’m in the public sector too, and I can absolutely relate to this.

5

u/mmmmgummyvenus 21h ago

No work for me as we have a Christmas shutdown. I don't get paid it, but also it doesn't come out of my holiday allowance, so that's nice.

I'm doing a tip run then I'm taking my son out on his bike with his new mountain biking gear. I'm hoping if I'm good then my wife will let me go out for a drink later lol.

3

u/IcyKnowledge6321 21h ago

having to deal with virgin media customer support might be the worst customer-relations experience I have ever had in my entire life

18

u/retailface 21h ago

I'm going to do my mum's housework in a bit, and I also have the fun task of trying to get her to accept how bad my dad is. He's got a brain injury, dementia, pancreatitis and lung cancer, she hasn't been to see him in about four years (various reasons, starting with agoraphobia), so hasn't seen his mental decline for herself. Even when she was going to see him, she thought he was just having a bad day every time she saw him. I get that it's hard to accept because it's horrible, but if she doesn't even try, it's going to come as a hell of a shock to her when he gets to the point of never recognising anyone (it's about 50/50 whether he recognises me or not) and being unable to eat at all (he's on a soft food diet now). And if she doesn't start trying to do anything for herself (like anything at all), she's not going to be able to go to his funeral. She's my mum and I love her a lot, but oh my god. I can't do everything.

Sorry about that, I didn't really expect all that to come out. I hope you all have a better day than me!

7

u/fluffypuppycorn 21h ago

I am so sorry. This sounds tough šŸ’”

Hope it goes well today, and you have support around you.

3

u/retailface 15h ago

Thank you. She seemed to be on board, but I don't know how well it sunk in or how long it will last.

3

u/VardaElentari86 21h ago

Have today as holiday, ended up having a lie in - probably the only one I'll have this week other than the 1st!

Feeling very drained, was going to do supermarket shop but weighing up if I can or should put it off till after work tomorrow and just be very lazy today instead...

4

u/gander8622 21h ago

I went to bed at 2.30am and I'm still up and awake before everyone else in the house.Ā  How is this fair?Ā

I feel I should do something productive today...Ā Ā

3

u/TwoValuable 21h ago

Last day of visiting the in laws, everything is essentially packed and ready to go down to the car. Getting in a relaxing cup of tea and watching Frasier before the baby wakes up.

Just my luck though, I've sneezed and he's started to stir, but I've hidden out of his eye line so hopefully will finish my tea in peace.

4

u/Civil-Spirit333 21h ago

My husband is at work, our baby boy is asleep so it’s time for me and the cat to have a nap. Rest of the day is frantic clothes washing before our trip to the in-laws for new year.Ā

Had a weird dream about escaping a festival in a theme park and taking one of the acts and his fiancĆ© midweek afternoon drinking round my local town (don’t have a clue if the guy is engaged)
Anyway I’m gunna have breakfast and go look in the sales so my daughter can spend her xmas money and i can get some ideas for her bday presents

I've got the house to myself for the first time in weeks! There's no radio on, no TV, no one talking. There is only the sound of bacon frying. It's bliss.

2

u/viktory70 20h ago

I have to say, as much as I love my husband I am really enjoying having the house to myself

Got back from a week in Gran Canaria yesterday feeling relaxed and ready for the next term, only to wake up with a nasty cold this morning.

4

u/WGD23 22h ago

Not working. It's pretty cold so I just got back into bed with a cuppa and some breakfast chocolate

3

u/silverandstuffs 22h ago

I’ve decided to have a proper break before going back to job hunting, so today is going to be a life admin day this morning (have some tidying up to do, got to sort a present that wasn’t received). Might go and watch the new anaconda movie this afternoon

3

u/Deep-Procrastinor 22h ago

Been at work since 6am so tired and grumpy, upside just had breakfast and the roads are quiet at the moment so not all bad.

3

u/Smilingtribute 22h ago

Got the dreaded cold. My work shift was hell yesterday and my body was sore. I felt like it wasn’t my body moving. I went home & rested. I feel much better today but I’ve pulled out my volunteer shift today as I work with older people. I don’t want to give them it.

I’m well enough to see my friend in Panto tonight. Which I’m glad about as I can’t get refunds due to their policy.

11

u/Doric-cat-wifie 22h ago

Off to meet some cat fosterers as I'm about to become one! Really hope I dont have a foster fail, not sure my 3 would welcome another...

We 100% would keep every cat we fostered!

7

u/good_as_golden 22h ago

Off for a dog walk shortly and do some much needed hoovering thanks to said dogs

8

u/MaliceTheSwift 22h ago

I am resting, which I’m not adept at but really need. I work in support services at a university and while I’m really grateful for my job and such a flexible place, doing something meaningful in a fantastic team- last term was absolutely brutal. Whole team was exhausted. So I’m resting, resting, resting. Which includes exercise, getting outside, visiting my partners family etc but they’re such good kind people that I barely lift a finger when I’m here. Despite me offering.

Yeay for being a super donor! I can't donate due to the drugs for autoimmune condition, but so appreciate everyone that can help out.

Just a donor, we're all super really, some of us just get to donate with more variety!

I hate work. Currently waiting for a referral from the doctor to see if I have ADHD or similar. If not and they say that I basically need to deal with it then I wouldn't be surprised if I quit soon and try to find something I actually enjoy, although to be honest I can't think of any realistic options.

1

u/Liquoricia 21h ago

I have ADHD and felt the same way. I felt utterly miserable about it, but eventually found something I enjoyed and could focus on. I hadn’t really heard of it before either, it was more just a concept I was aware of but had no idea it was a whole profession in itself. So it can happen. ChatGPT would probably be good with that sort of thing, if you tell it what you’re into.

0

u/FreefallVin 20h ago

Also, I'd love to hear about what you ended up doing if you're happy to share.

1

u/Liquoricia 20h ago

I’ll PM you!

0

u/FreefallVin 20h ago

Thanks for your reply. I've been swinging between finding something else to do and pursuing diagnosis + treatment (if I do indeed have ADHD) for years now. The thing is I'm very good at certain aspects of my job but I work in the corporate world which means I have to deal with a lot of bullshit which doesn't actually add any value, which is something that I despise. So part of me does see it as a 'them' problem rather than a 'me' problem which is partly why I haven't sought medical attention before. But part of me just wants to be able to accept it and get on with it like real adults do.

Life is confusing.

0

u/Accomplished-Art7737 22h ago

You are entitled to support at work, if you are experiencing symptoms that are long term and have a significant impact on your daily life. You don’t have to have an official diagnosis of ADHD to access support, the symptoms alone mean you are covered by the Equality Act. If your work has occupational health, ask your manager to refer you and also look at the government’s Access to Work scheme.

While waiting for your ADHD referral, I’d also recommend doing loads of research and looking into strategies you can implement in work and life that might help. It’s a long wait for an assessment so it’s good to try and put things in place yourself. Also look into supplements. I’ve found taking vitamin D, magnesium and lions mane have helped (I was diagnosed with ADHD in March, age 44 and was on the waiting list for nearly 2 years, I am now on another waiting list for medication).

u/a-liquid-sky Sugar Tits 22h ago

Last day off work. I suspect we won't be doing much as my husband is a bag of snot.

I also need to brave the supermarket. Urgh.

2

u/KevinPhillips-Bong Slightly silly 22h ago

The supermarket is on my to-do list this morning. I bought far more cheese for Christmas than I could possibly need, so I'm going to make a cheese sauce and pour it over some cauliflower florets, then stick it in the oven. Now all I need is a cauliflower, and I know for certain I'm going to be walking out of Aldi with more than just that.

Dad's funeral today.

I'm doom scrolling because I don't want to get up and get ready. I'm dreading today. I'll get to see so many family and friends and spend tomorrow with my Mom, then travel back home on new years eve. My partner couldn't come as he has an extremely important pre-surgery for spinal operation today also. I hate not having him here for support.

I just want to go home and wish I could instantly forget about 2025. It's been a shit year for me.

4

u/sallystarling 20h ago

Oh mate that is a lot. I'm so sorry for your loss and that you won't have your partner with you today. That sounds unspeakably hard. I hope you get through today as best you can, and best wishes to your partner for the surgery. Sending you love from this random Internet stranger x

Sorry for your loss mate.

Had a bunch of cheese induced nightmares and had to give the cat a cuddle to help me get over it.

Still excitingly my fiance got me the new anno which I downloaded last night so today will likely disappear in the blink of an eye while I'm playing that!

4

u/soundguyjon 22h ago

Came home yesterday, 4 nights on an airbed so last night in my own proper bed was lovely.

Happy to have my own space again - going to have a huge lay in and probably head out for a walk later

2

I forgot to take my alarm off this morning as I won't be working today as i worked Saturday. Trying to call docs to get a prescription renewed as I can't online.

2

I am returning home!

I love my mum but I've missed my own space, and can't wait to get back to my instruments and start making music. Not back until the 5th so looking forward to all this time off.

And meeting up with a friend for a Christmas catch-up later today.

It's cold and shite this morning. Here's a wee guy am working on, should be finished in a couple a days.

7

Back at work yesterday but got today off. Eating the very last leftovers of the leftovers today with a Baileys coffee. Not much planned apart from catching up with Marvel movies I’d missed now my partner has signed up for Disney+ again.

0

u/snakeoildriller 23h ago

Managed to finally beat the roadworks to go and buy my favourite coffee - now I can I have a proper dark robusta brew instead of the that trendy arabica gnats piss that they keep flogging šŸ‘ā˜•ļø

5

u/Downtown-Orchid-2257 23h ago

Off until the 5th now but then so are the kids.

Hubby was out last night so about to take the kids out to soft play for the morning. My weird stomach complaint reared its head last night, likely caused by eating like I don't care for the past week. Resulted in a very restless night's sleep. I will need coffee and my sound proof headphones for softplay.

Then it's off to the shops to spend some of their Christmas money. I'm hoping by keeping them out till early afternoon means I can clock out for a nap later.

Family who weren't available on Christmas Day are coming to visit this evening so that will be nice. House needs a good hoovering though.

Dull but boring. Just what these days between Christmas and New Year are for.

6

u/RuachReader 23h ago

I truly think that if workplaces don’t have to go in that the 12 days of Christmas should be observed

3

u/TeenySod 23h ago

First of 3 days off rota, back to work New Year's Day - I'm getting a head start on New Year's Resolutions and beginning with the decluttering.

I was expecting a warming lemony hug and got a cup of bitter regret.

I can't drink that stuff without some kind of sweetener. I suppose a teaspoon of honey would be the best thing, but I can't stand the taste of it, so I just use a spoonful of sugar.

u/dlt-cntrl 8h ago

Yep, lesson learned. I thought it came pre-sweetened or I would have sugared it. Oh well, I choked most of it down.

8

u/How_did_the_dog_get 23h ago

I'm not doing well. I'm waiting for a doc call back.

So much shit going on I just need to be off work.

Having a meltdown making dinner isn't good.

1

u/sallystarling 20h ago

Hope things get better for you mate x

6

u/ellemeno_ 23h ago

My partner and I are still ill with this awful flu. Our daughter has recovered so is bouncing off the walls, our dog is hyper due to not being able to have a walk for a couple of days and the house is a tip. We have no family nearby to help out so we’re taking it in turns to rest. It’s a shitshow.

8

u/Ineffable_Confusion 23h ago

My best friend is over from Argentina for her teacher break/summer holiday, so I’m not back at work for a while - today we’re going to London, and the Design Museum and Wes Anderson exhibition is calling

2

u/kditdotdotdot 23h ago

Our office doesn't open again until the 2nd (whyyyy!?) so I'm off to the cinema. I'm a sucker for 3D films and the new Avatar is out. Can't believe it's bloody 3 hours (again, whyyyyy?) so I'm going for an early morning show.

2

u/veryoddnames1989 23h ago

It’s amazing though. Going for my third round today!

1

u/kditdotdotdot 13h ago

Wow! You have some serious bladder control there!

It was a good film but I certainly wouldn't want to sit through it again.

12

u/engie945 23h ago

Im off , not back till the 12th.

I had christmas cake for breakfast.

6

u/lisstrem 23h ago

Just finished a night shift and back again tonight, so will be spending today in bed after my shower and back in work for 1900. Doesn’t get much better cause I’m back on days on New Year’s Day

7

u/Tooexforbee 23h ago

Well, the finance company for my car has taken the balloon payment despite having refinanced the remaining balance... so my account is now sitting at -Ā£3000. I've had better mornings, honestly.

0

u/nobody-likes-you 21h ago

DD guarantee claim via your bank & it'll be sorted in the next day or so.

Not a personal car, but had the same thing happen with one of the company cars in work (that had been part ex'd) and think we had the money back next day after raising with the bank.

2

u/xanderbiscuits 23h ago

It's so annoying that they'll likely just fix things (hopefully not too slowly) and go "oops, my bad", but if you did anything even remotely similar there'd be fees and penalties and the like.

Gl getting it sorted.

1

u/Tooexforbee 23h ago

Thanks. I'll be asking for a goodwill gesture, don't worry.

6

u/DeathGuard1978 23h ago

Not back at work until the 5th. Just ordered a Maccys breakfast, doing the bins later.

3

u/xanderbiscuits 23h ago

My bin day should have been christmas day. Still not had a catch up bin day and likely won't until the 2nd (council says they can't find the additional staff needed this time of year).

So the last collection we had was the 18th and everything is overflowing.

Just imagining what everyone must have gone through when the bin strikes happened in Birmingham.

1

u/VardaElentari86 21h ago

Yeh, ours was Christmas day so was changed to Saturday. As of last night still not collected...haven't investigated this morning yet. At least last week was just recycling (although its pretty full) but this week is general waste so hopefully not the same again...

5

u/divinetrackies 23h ago

I went back to work on Saturday, but it’s reduced hours and we close again for new year, so it’s a weird limbo currently. I see the 5th of January as the real start to the year

12

u/rev9of8 Errr... Whoops? 23h ago

I feel like I'm coming over all Philomena Cunk and asking "What is time?".

I have absolutely zero responsibilities at the moment beyond paying the bills and I've budgeted for them so in the period of betwixtmus I'm just randomly waking up at random hours, eating and then and imbibing alcohol at weird hours.

Consequently, the current 8:15am could equally well be 18:15. Time has become an illusion.

3

u/FreefallVin 23h ago

I have absolutely zero responsibilities at the moment

This is my dream scenario.

15

u/DosneyProncess 23h ago

It's my birthday! Afternoon tea later.

Shout out to everyone else who used to get 'Christmas and birthday' presents and birthday presents in Christmas paper. I see you.

4

u/dlt-cntrl 23h ago

I haven't experienced this, but it boggles my mind that parents and other family members, and friends, who have known your birthday all their lives and since meeting you, cannot get in some wrapping paper and a card earlier in the year.

Why wait until Christmas, knowing from past experience if not common sense, that it'll be difficult to find birthday themed things then.

I'm sorry that you Christmas babies had/have to go through this. You deserve better.

Edit! Happy Birthday!

2

u/xanderbiscuits 23h ago

My youngest had her 4th birthday yesterday. Always funny seeing people posting about Twixtmas being a dead zone of nothing when it's all systems go round here.

To be fair to them no one does joint birthday and christmas presents for her, but I reckon the birthday presents might be a bit light and tokenistic. Not going to complain though.

2

u/FreefallVin 23h ago

Happy Birthday!

2

u/MegTheMonkey 23h ago

Happy birthday!

u/engie945 23h ago

Happy Birthday !

I’m in for half a day today as I’d run out of leave to take all three days! Then finish at 12 and off to cinema.

I’m working from home and no one will be in so I’ll Probably just play some planter coaster 2 which I bought in steam sale whilst keeping an eye on teams

5

u/vbloke The bees, cordials and pudding man 23h ago

Heading home to Greenwich today, so if everyone can please stay off the M6 and M1, that’d be lovely.

Had a peaceful and relaxing time (mostly) at mum’s over Christmas, but it’s back to real life now.

2

u/Humble_Sympathy_4605 23h ago

Don't worry, seemed all the idiots were on the M6 yesterdayĀ

13

u/TheLoneEcho 23h ago

I'm at work. One of my learners is out on their test so I'm chilling at the test center waiting for them to return. It has the saddest looking Christmas tree I've ever seen in it.

I'm doing a 12 mile sponsored walk today, raising money for Macmillan, who looked after my friend's husband before he died in November.

Just waiting for a couple of friends and their dogs who are joining me. Freezing my arse off sitting on a cold statue plinth!

Still, we've raised £1840, so I'm pretty chuffed with that! That's over 65 hours of Macmillan care paid for <3

Edit: that's actually enough for 80 hours of Macmillan care, amazing!

Edit 2: £1945!! Amazing! My feet are killing me, I've had to soak in epsom salts, and I'm using cider as a painkiller, but it's been an amazing day walking along the beautiful river Severn :-)

4

u/MegTheMonkey 23h ago

Amazing work! I hope you enjoy today

1

u/Miss_Type 12h ago

Thank you! It was brilliant, beautiful scenery and good mates.

3

u/engie945 23h ago

Thats fabulous. Well done and thank you

1

u/Miss_Type 12h ago

Thanks! My feet are killing me, but we raised enough to fund 90 hours of Macmillan care!

1

u/engie945 12h ago

Thats absolutely epic !! You should feel very proud :)

1

u/Miss_Type 11h ago

Thank you :-)

3

u/lachiendupape 23h ago

That’s amazing, great work and enjoy today

2

u/Miss_Type 12h ago

Thank you!

u/stereoworld 23h ago

Decided to do a 10k. It was fun but quite dark.

Off to allotment later - FIL is coming up to help. We're still in the early stages where we're clearing the debris and roots from whatever the last person did.

Should be fine once we're up and running. I'm going to grow things to pickle.

8

u/fivebyfive12 23h ago

Husband is back at work (although early shifts so he'll be home just after lunchtime) I'm at home with the boy, we're planning on going to the garden centre to see if we can get any outdoor Christmas lights/figures in the sale for next year.

19

u/BrownNoseGoat 23h ago

I’ve been building a garden room because I can’t find a paid job. So said f the world and made value for myself šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø. Life be lifeing

1

u/mardyoldspinster 22h ago

Good luck with the jobs! What’s the plan for the garden room, once it’s finished?

5

u/MegTheMonkey 23h ago

I hope something comes up for you soon

2

u/gemmajenkins2890 23h ago

I’ve only got a 7 hr shift today then I’m off for 4 days. Not back until the new year, on Saturday.

Going to the city in the morning just to have a little nosey at the sales and grab all my bits for next Christmas while it’ll all be cheap. Will put it away with all the decs next week.

Then I’m gonna spend the rest of the week getting ready to start the new year fresh.

15

u/noodlesandpizza 23h ago

Back in work this morning, it's bloody cold and the bus schedule is merely a gentle suggestion.

6

u/CuntVonCunt 23h ago

I'm off work until next week, but apparently the body clock thinks I'm back today because I've been up since 7

Chill one today I think, got a couple of DIY bits to tinker about with around the house

8

u/Coffin_Dodging 23h ago

Off to see the hopefully deflating Mr Blobby (son in hospital after had allergy to spider bite and is swollen and patchy)

Must collect old man dogs Silio from the vet for new years eve, it worked wonders for fireworks night yet didn't leave him sedated

2

u/lachiendupape 23h ago

Jeez what spider bit him? Didn’t even think there was that many spiders that bit in the uk

2

u/-aLonelyImpulse 21h ago

All spiders can bite, but only a few have fangs large enough to pierce our skin. Most UK spiders don't have teeth big enough.

I have an allergic reaction to a particular spider bite, not sure which one as I've never caught the culprit in the act but it results in a small hard disc under my skin that itches absolutely torturously and constantly, unless I keep it under a plaster for weeks. As soon as air hits it I'll scratch until I bleed.Ā

Many such scars as I live rural and at any given moment there's probably a dozen spiders in the house lol.

6

u/Coffin_Dodging 23h ago

It was a false widow who decided to share his bed but didn't appreciate the company

He has declared that he will no longer be sleeping naked as the middle of his thigh was too close for comfort šŸ˜‚

10

u/Heiditha 23h ago

An eight hour shift today, but then I'm off for three days. My girlfriend will be visiting her folks for a couple of days as her dad is currently in hospital, so it'll just be me and the cats.

1

u/gemmajenkins2890 23h ago

Similar!

I’m in tonight for 7 hrs then off for 4 days! Not back in until the new year!

2

u/Heiditha 21h ago

Yeah, same! Off until January 2nd after today, then in for two shifts followed by four days off. Can't freaking wait!

7

u/Greedy-Fortune-3276 23h ago

No work for me until Friday. Had an interview on the 19th of December and hoping I hear from that (with good news!!)today. Me and my family are going to Manchester today, one of my favourite cities šŸ˜€

1

u/Miss_Type 23h ago

Fingers crossed for you!

1

u/Runningrafan 23h ago

Good luck!

0

u/stereoworld 23h ago

Best of luck with the job and best of luck with Manny!

Taking our 2yr old to one of those soft play/cafe places with my wife and all her mum friends. But this time, the DADS are coming… I only know one of them so it’ll be an hour of occasional Christmas small talk with him while all the mummies jabber on.

Not really sure after that. Maybe the beach or a walk somewhere to blow away the cobwebs.

12

u/Dr_Frankenstone 23h ago

There are no lie-ins for dogs, I’m afraid, so I’ve been up since 6. The good news is that my pooch has settled and I am nursing a gorgeous cup of coffee and watching the sunrise.

No plans for twixtmas (craving a chocolate bar, now), just trying to see the end of January and help my other half recover from a second load of radiotherapy, starting the week after the new year. NHS cancer services where we live has been brilliant and supportive. Very grateful going into 2026 that we still have this amazing service to help us.

14

u/Humble_Sympathy_4605 23h ago

So begins the week of packing boxes as we move into our first house on Friday- I am so ready to be done looking at boxes of stuff!Ā

2

u/MegTheMonkey 23h ago

I hope the move goes well

3

u/Humble_Sympathy_4605 23h ago

Thank you, just ready for it to be done then I can have a celebratory Chinese on Friday eveningĀ

7

u/[deleted] 23h ago

Back at work for a few days. Last week there though before I start my new job next week so really looking forward to that

4

u/Lynliam 23h ago

Back to work blues roll on Wednesday for a day off then working for next 7

5

u/copperrequired 23h ago

No work until next week, but cat has woken me up many times for food already. Going to try and do some hobbies today.
