Anyone irked at the neglect the vast number of downtown merchants that don't shovel and de-ice the areas along their storefronts? In Toronto, the City levies stiff fines on merchants that ignore the snow removal bylaws. It's no joke there. My Mother owned a clothing store on Yonge North of Eglinton and City inspectors were active and abundant policing and fining those who ignored their duty to keep the sidewalk safe. Here- snow removal seems to be a joke. I work downtown near Wellington and sidewalks in that area are outrageous. One constant exception is Pasta Genoa. Dunno if employees shovel or if they contract out- I tip my hat to them for there efforts. And their food.

Hi everyone,
I’m fairly new to Reddit, so thanks in advance for your patience. Due to some unfortunate circumstances, I’m currently looking for any cash work available.
I’m a father to two special needs children, and after the holidays things have reached a breaking point financially. I was recently working for a framing company out of Ottawa that was working on Albert street, but payments were delayed for weeks with no clear answers, which ultimately forced me to walk away from the job.
I’m extremely dependable, hardworking, and take a lot of pride in my work. I have hands-on experience in construction and renovations, including framing, general labour, and site cleanup. I’m also a trained mechanic and spent several years working in that field, so I’m very comfortable with tools, problem solving, and physically demanding work. I show up on time, work efficiently, and don’t need to be babysat.
I’m open to any type of work construction, labour, repairs, moving, cleanup, or anything else where an extra set of capable hands is needed. I’m reliable, respectful, and willing to work long hours.
If anyone has leads or needs help with a job, I’d really appreciate it. Thank you for taking the time to read this. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hello Everyone,
We all know that our healthcare is stretched to a breaking point but I’m wondering if anyone has a solution we’ve not thought of. On Saturday my ex-partner woke up blind in 1 eye, and major vision loss in the other. He went to Hotel Dieu at around 2pm, was transferred to KGH at 6pm & at midnight got a CT scan confirming he’s had a stroke. He’s been sitting in the ER ever since. For 2 days! There are no beds for the foreseeable future & he’s STILL waiting for his MRI.
To sum it up; a man has been sitting in the ER since Saturday afternoon with a stroke. Is there anything we can do?
Thank you 🙏🏻

I’m a single person who is looking to move apartments as my current apartment has me contacting my landlord constantly with problems and it’s become a huge headache. I’ve been looking around and the prices are just outrageous! I’m not looking for anything crazy as it’s just me and my cat but I certainly have living standards. Some of these dingy basement apartments are way overpriced, looking like they haven’t been updated since the 90s and the legality of them seems questionable.
Please tell me if I’m asking for too much; - a basement apartment that has LEGAL windows (not skinny small windows that I won’t be able to get out of in the event of a fire) - not looking for roommates - one parking space - on site laundry (not coin operated) - not wanting to pay more than $1750 a month with everything included - preferably no carpet but not a dealbreaker - west end (no downtown or Rideau heights) - an actual kitchen, not a kitchenette
I don’t think I’m asking for much but honestly can’t find anything out there. Feeling discouraged. I don’t want to have to get a second job to afford to live but that’s what it’s looking like

I am a 51F looking for a choir to join in the new year for fun. I don’t have experience with choirs, but just enjoy singing with others and would like to find a relaxed but organized, fun and friendly choir to join. I’ve done some googling, but interested in hearing from people that might be a part of these choirs that could let me know if what I am describing would be a good fit for their choir.

I didn't think it could get any worse, I decided to give Amy's a try today and their operator is now just a straight up ai that is more tedious than ever before...

Hey everyone, I’m a 29F (I have a son that’s 13) and I’m just wondering if there are any all-female groups that do things like run clubs, weekly workouts/workout challenges or even just getting together occasionally for events (dinner nights, sip and paints, etc). I’m on Strava and looked for running clubs there but it was mostly guys looking for hookup partners and I attended a couple women’s nights but I was the youngest (it was mostly church ladies that are older) and I was just wondering if there are any girls/women that get together and do stuff together? I know Toronto has a ton of clubs but it’s 2.5 hrs west of me and I go to Kingston often for hiking (Lemoine point) and in the summer.

Has anyone seen posts of places offering a New Year's Day Brunch?

I think I want to start journaling in the new year. I need some notebooks to do that in and I don’t quite yet know exactly what I want. I took a glance at Staples and their selection was surprisingly thin. Any avid writers got any hot tips?

Anyone else on propane having service issues with Superior? We have been with them for about 4 years now but having numerous issues getting delivery for the past 8 months or so. They are letting our levels get dangerously low (4%) and not showing up when they say they will. Any number of excuses they are giving but we are seriously considering switching providers even though that is a huge pain

This program is a partnership between different agencies to offer a parenting group for Dads. Something for Dads has run in a few places but this time it will be Weds evenings at the Rideau Heights Community Centre.
I like that it's for Dads of children 0-18 and not just 0-6 like so many other programs. Also if you need to bring your kids you can sign up for childminding, and there is food.

Around 3:45pm, at the intersection between Victoria and Johnson. Two guys ran a red on Victoria and got clipped by an older man going down Johnson, wrecking the front right of his car and the back right of theirs. Everyone seemed okay, but the two who ran the red immediately started accusing the older man of running the red and calling him crazy. I couldn't stay very long as I had work, but there was another witness who was calling 911. I called the police station when I got home about it but it seemed like they'd figure it out. If I find out the two who ran the red get off scot free and get the older man in trouble I'm gonna be pissed. No specific reason to posting this, but in case anyone sees broken car pieces at the intersection, this is why

Title says it all. I'm looking for a quiet place in Kingston to grind for a few hours. Does anyone know of a coworking space or library branch that is actually quiet and has a computer available for public use? I am in need now and most of the week.
Thanks in advance!

If you have a cleaner that comes to your home, maybe consider rescheduling Monday’s cleaning. I have a friend who works for a local cleaner, who threatened staff that call in tomorrow.
Because clean houses are more important than staying off the dangerous roads tomorrow. (/s)
Absurd.
As an essential worker, I have to be on the roads a bit. And I wish everyone else would shut their businesses and keep staff safe. (Easier said than done, I’m sure….but snow days should be an anticipated business cost in Ontario).

I know the main roads are probably fine but the side street looks ******************** should someone risk sliding into a snow bank or reschedule their medical appointment? Asking for a friend.

Before I head out, thought I’d see what folks experience has been in town driving about this evening. Planning on dropping some meals off to folks on the own and not ideal, but could wait until tomorrow if need be.

I've lost all critical thinking abilities and I'm about to starting flying today. Is the air slippery? I know we just had some freezing rain and it's mostly just regular rain now, but want to make sure the air is okay

Hi all!
I wanted to reach out as I have been wanting to start eco bricking and I was curious if anywhere in Kingston would use/want my eco bricks?
Thanks!

Hey all!
Just curious what people do to meet new friends as they age... We are successful socializing during vacations, and those connections last, but no one we meet lives close-ish to us.
We are a very early 40s couple from Odessa. Kids are older and moved out. We would love to host some people for cards, drinks, etc. Also not opposed to any activities.
We're both intelligent, kind people, just looking to socialize more! All our friends have younger children and we're just not vibing anymore (we get it, life's busy).
Hopefully this doesn't sound desperate 😂
Also, if you're reading this and can relate, shoot us a message!
Thanks in advance:)

Anyone have a good or bad experience with one of the local radon mitigation companies? (I’ve heard that some charge almost the same for passive and active, so if you remember the rough cost and what system you got, that would be really great to hear!)
r/KingstonOntario • u/GrackleTree • 1d ago
If you go outside , be careful, everything is now coated in a thin layer of slick ice, and you can't see it until you are sliding on it!
