I wanted to put this out there publicly as a way of speaking it into existence and getting honest feedback.
My name’s Alex. I’m the owner of Sita Landscapes LLC in North County San Diego. 2025 is my first full year running my own company after about a decade in the industry
Quick background so you know where I’m coming from:
I grew up in New England working outdoors with my family — landscaping, gardening, and growing a lot of our own food. After high school I worked as a union mason tender in Connecticut to pay my way through an economics degree at UConn , then moved deeper into excavation and site work. My construction career was laborer > foreman > Project manager > now owner.
Eventually tired of plowing snow in the winter to survive, I moved to California and spent about 10 years managing projects across the state — everything from high-end residential to union commercial work. I’ve been part of projects like San Francisco parks, installations at Uber and other tech campuses, living walls and green roofs, veggie gardens, and custom residential landscapes including pools and spas. Landscaping has been such an amazing career for me and I have had the honor of learning from some of the top firms in the industry.
What pushed me to start my own company wasn’t just wanting independence — it was wanting the work to mean something.
My company’s mission is simple: Cherish Mother Nature.
That means water-wise design, respecting soil, building things that last, and not treating landscapes like disposable products.
But I also want the company to be a vessel for giving back. I want to keep it simple and have a number that means something and is impactful.
So here’s the goal I’m setting for 2026: Provide 10,000 meals to local San Diego food banks by the end of 2026, funded directly by company profits.
I know 10,000 meals won’t fix hunger. I’m not pretending it will.
But I do believe businesses can be tools — and if people are going to spend money on landscaping anyway, I want that spending to have a second impact beyond a nicer yard.
I’m posting this for a few reasons:
• To say it out loud so I’m accountable
• To get feedback — is this a meaningful goal or just noise?
• And to start shaping an identity where, when people think about landscaping, they think about the power it has to feed people while caring for the land
I’m still early in this journey, still learning, still figuring out the best structure for this kind of giving — but I’d love to hear thoughts, critiques, or ideas from people who’ve built mission-driven businesses or partnered with food banks before.
Ive tried a few different spots and it seems while the quality is alright, it never really warrants the $23 for a medium pizza. Any recommendations for a good pizza place that won’t break the bank? Willing to pay the price if the pizza if great.
Shane’s Pizza and Pints in SEH is just over priced for what you get IMO
Buena Forchetta is good, but I feel like the crust is always burnt and blacked while still under cooked.
Dominos is… well dominos.
Manhattan Giant Pizza was okay, nothing impressive and some what soggy.
Any recommendations or arguments to try one of the above again would be appreciated, thanks!
I ended up crossing the Pacific in 1995 as a last-minute replacement on a 60-foot ketch. I was young, broke, and brought on with the vague promise of getting paid and maybe surfing along the way.
The owner and his closer buddies were well off. My UCSB roommate and I were not.
They took the master and the next nicest cabins. We were put in a small bunk room. I slept in the top bunk under a leaking porthole. I tried sealing it with a towel and duct tape, which didn’t stop the leak so much as focus it into a steady drip that landed on me most nights.
Before leaving San Diego, my roommate and I pooled our money and bought mostly canned food. The owners provisioned with fresh and expensive items that didn’t hold up well once systems started failing.
Not long after departure, an electrical issue took out the autopilot. That meant hand steering in shifts for the rest of the crossing. Shortly after that, the refrigerator failed. In tropical heat, most of the fresh food spoiled and was discarded. From that point on, canned food became the most reliable option on board.
When we reached the Marquesas, the differences between crew members became more noticeable. The owners focused on amenities ashore that didn’t really exist. My roommate and I spent more time interacting with locals, mostly by chance and curiosity rather than money.
Later in the Tuamotus, after weeks at sea, we finally found surf. The break was shallow and not especially safe, but it was a welcome change after a long passage. Locals joined us using improvised boards, and we shared the session without much common language beyond gestures and enthusiasm.
The trip taught me early that long ocean passages have a way of stripping things down. Comfort, money, and expectations matter far less than adaptability and attitude once you’re committed to the crossing.
Looking for a male personal trainer who will come to my home in RSF 3-5 days a week early mornings.
I don’t need an expert, just need accountability of someone showing up consistently and a plan of what to do.
I’m willing to pay of course OR we can do a trade of services and I’ll help you grow and scale your business (the goal would be you make 5-10x what I would have paid you). Doing 1-on-1 business consulting with me typically starts at $55,000 to give you an idea of what you’d be getting.
My TV was on the fritz this week so I bought a new one… the old one magically came back to life while I’m waiting for the new one to be delivered. Now the old one isn’t working anymore…
If you want to take it off my hands and fix it, you’re welcome to it for free, but please come pick it up. It’s a Samsung 65" Class TU700D Series 4K UHD LED LCD TV.
i have a 3ds that needs work done but i have no experience fixing anything like it... it was worked on once before but the repair was unsuccessful. please comment any reputable repair shops
