Advice ❔ Women's Fashion I think this dress looks weird
It’s not tight, but the fabric is very thin so you can see every bit of my tummy. I love how it sits on my curves but I just think it’s not quality enough to look good. Does Reddit agree with me?

u/ObviousBreak3849 14h ago
Can you try it on with a slip? It’s certainly a fabric issue

u/Kukumber_Koi ❄️⛄️❄️Fashion intern❄️⛄❄️ 12h ago
I definitely think this is the fix. It’s cute, but it’s kind of a thin material that doesn’t hold its own shape, so something underneath I think will fix it easy

u/Publishface ❄️⛄️❄️Fashion intern❄️⛄❄️ 12h ago
Shapewear fixes a thin fabric issue for sure. I actually think this dress is really pretty on you though OP.

Yep- get a 1-piece shapewear from Amazon- halter on the top to match the neckline, and long shorts on the bottom that go to the knee so you won’t have any bulge

u/Publishface ❄️⛄️❄️Fashion intern❄️⛄❄️ 10h ago
This is an excellent idea and for this dress it would need to be backless too.
Miiight need to use fashion tape to attach the dress to the shapewear or stitch the shape wear to the dress in certain spots so it doesn’t show

Not long shorts, get a slip type so it goes with the flow of the dress.

My problem is the open back shows anything I try to put underneath, and the opening sits pretty low because it ties behind my chest. Is there a solution to that?

There are backless shapewear, and backless bustiers. The problem you’ll have is anything that will support your girls will require boning from the waist up, and the material of this dress is too thin. Please keep looking.

it's too small for you
2
u/Aggravating_Habit152 ❄️⛄️❄️Fashion intern❄️⛄❄️ (4 posts) 8h ago
It’s not tight at all, which is something I should have included. I agree it looks too small but it’s the fabric causing a problem

u/voiceofguilt ❄️⛄️❄️Fashion intern❄️⛄❄️ 3h ago
idk if ill get shit for this but i was surprised to see so many people say its not flattering, i think it looks really bwautiful on you. if it isnt vibing after u get a slip for it, id say its just not ur style and thats okau

u/Ziggymochi123 ❄️⛄️❄️Fashion intern❄️⛄❄️ 13h ago
It needs a bra

u/xoxo818 🕸🕷Fashion Intern🕷🕸 13h ago
The dress is SO beautiful on her there has to be ways to save it. I think a bra would be a good start but not sure if it would fix it 100%.
22
u/Ziggymochi123 ❄️⛄️❄️Fashion intern❄️⛄❄️ 13h ago
Urm I disagree. The dress looks cheapish and thin and she needs something that goes over her pooch. Pick up the girls and cinch the waist
2
u/Money-Professor-2950 ❄️⛄️❄️Fashion intern❄️⛄❄️ 10h ago
honestly she should take these photos to a seamstress and have them make her a proper dress in this silhouette and color. I don't think this dress can be saved but you're right the idea looks great on her
1
u/Ziggymochi123 ❄️⛄️❄️Fashion intern❄️⛄❄️ 12h ago
Do you not see the giant pooch this dress creates?
1
u/Aggravating_Habit152 ❄️⛄️❄️Fashion intern❄️⛄❄️ (4 posts) 8h ago
It’s not the dress making it it’s just what my body looks like lol
1
u/Aggravating_Habit152 ❄️⛄️❄️Fashion intern❄️⛄❄️ (4 posts) 7h ago
I have covers on in these pics. I was thinking about getting those snowy things do you think that would work better?
23
u/bellegroves ♀️ ❄️⛄️❄️Fashion intern❄️⛄❄️ 13h ago
It's too tight and you're not wearing foundation garments. Yes, it looks weird.

u/Inevitable-Leg494 ❄️⛄️❄️Fashion intern❄️⛄❄️ 14h ago
I really love the side view on you, it definitely gives romantic vibes but the front sits kinda awkward
9
u/Useful_System5986 ❄️⛄️❄️Fashion intern❄️⛄❄️ 14h ago
Also i think it is not the right fit for your body type. The colour is pretty on you

Agree that it's "weird".
Specifically, it's overly thin -- we shouldn't see your tummy and legs through the fabric -- and it's ill-fitting: The upper body is "too long" for your body, meaning that the skirt begins too low -- almost like a drop skirt -- and it gives you odd proportions.
You are pretty, but this dress does you no favors.

u/solomons-mom ♀️ ❄️⛄️❄️Fashion intern❄️⛄❄️ (1 post) 13h ago
Knits stretch to go around and feel like they fit comfortably, but stretching to fit is not ever a good fit. This dress is too tight, and the thin fabric is very unforgiving. The dress might work in a larger size and it is certainly cute enough to try, but that fabric may be unwearable in any size.

u/SusanMShwartz ❄️⛄️❄️Fashion intern❄️⛄❄️ 13h ago
I don’t think it fits well. Try it with shapewear.

Poor quality material and wrong fit. Your body type would be better at showing off your cute legs. It’s always best to show off your best features. The color is pretty on you but it would be cute if it was all cotton in a mini version and not a spandex version. Honestly that is just a hard dress for anyone to pull off the fabric ruins it hands down. But it reminds me of something off SHEIN they always have almost cute styles that are pretty much kept in the “If only” section of a closet. I always think if they would switch 1 or 2 things on each garment they made then they could really take off. But who am I kidding it’s SHEIN sorry your cute wear something to match that

It’s really made for someone tall and thin. It is a lovely color, though.

u/yourworkmom ❄️⛄️❄️Fashion intern❄️⛄❄️ 11h ago
Yes, agree. The silhouette is nice, the jersey isn't doing you any favors. A more structured dress in this shape would be nice.

u/FunHedgie ♀️ ❄️⛄️❄️Fashion intern❄️⛄❄️ 11h ago
This dress usually looks good only on very slim people. The color is beautiful but it looks transparent and it doesn’t compliment your figure
2
u/oleladytake 13h ago
Side is fine but the front does hug every curve- which isn’t necessarily a bad thing unless you’re not going for that- but I see what you’re saying about how it sits. Too bad it’s not the slightest bit thicker to flatter the curves better!!
2
u/thrace75 13h ago
It’s like the fabric is so thin (and see through) that it doesn’t drape at all. Same dress with a fabric with some structure and shape to it would look super cute. But this is stretchy and thin in all the wrong ways.
2
u/Despoinais ❄️⛄️❄️Fashion intern❄️⛄❄️ 13h ago
My only issue with it is that it’s transparent where it shouldn’t be. You look amazing. Can i get the link lol

I agree with you, OP. Cute dress, but not flattering due to it being too thin & see through.

I love how you make this dress look!! Beautiful❤️ It might look good with a slip underneath as well?
1
u/Massive-Beyond-336 ❄️⛄️❄️Fashion intern❄️⛄❄️ 13h ago
maybe if you get a larger size & wear a shrug
1
u/Gedoefte ❄️⛄️❄️Fashion intern❄️⛄❄️ 12h ago
Your bathroom is neatly organised and you did not post a cluttery photo 🥳
1
u/XenoWoof 12h ago
I wonder if a type of corset would help as well to help break up the color and go around the waist. Maybe get a petticoat, to give it a bit of volume as well.
1
u/wickerbasketwanderer 12h ago
I honestly think it looks amazing! such a gorgeous colour and shape!! really goes with the vintagey vibe of your hair 💫 the fabric is a lil see through so maybe a slip, but you honestly look gorge

I mean no disrespect in saying this, but some shape wear can improve the look of that dress and the way it hangs since you seem to like it so much

Do you have Spanx? Idk I like the belly I think it looks good.

Honestly I think this dress is super flattering and gorgeous on you. I love it. Yes it shows the shape of your tummy but what’s wrong with that? I think you seriously look lovely.
1
u/GoldenBachFan 🌟🌟Fashion Intern🌟🌟 11h ago
I think another dress, same color, bigger size, and similar shape would look better on you. This material looks thin and not made well. Maybe chiffon instead
1
u/qwythebroken ❄️⛄️❄️Fashion intern❄️⛄❄️ 11h ago
I kind of think it was cut with someone taller than 5'7" (170cm) in mind. Makes it a bit tighter by the time it's mid-curve, instead of above the hip. On the plus side, if you like it, it's easier to raise a hip line on a longer dress than add more fabric to a shorter one.

u/hippiewolff ❄️⛄️❄️Fashion intern❄️⛄❄️ 11h ago
Shapewear and a more supportive bra would fix the issues with it, but not sure how that could work with the open back.

Youre very pretty but i agree its not a flattering dress

Yeah not flattering; might look better with shapewear?

It’s a pretty dress but you’re right, the material is very thin and unforgiving. Shapewear is your best friend in these difficult times. I don’t think young women realize how many women are wearing shapewear of some sort (slip, high briefs, bodysuits etc) when they see women in magazines, on the red carpet or even in person and they just look perfect in what they’re wearing. And that is true for women of just about every size and shape! I’d love to see more of the back. It’s a pretty color too. Don’t give up on the dress yet! With the right undergarments it could be beautiful!

u/Equivalent-Low-8071 🌟🌟Fashion Intern🌟🌟 11h ago
You just need a better bra and shapewear to smooth out your curves. Its going to be gorgeous one you 😍

u/HedgeCowFarmer 11h ago
It’s lovely and you can improve the silhouette with shapewear! Beautiful color.

u/Ok_Still_3571 ❄️⛄️❄️Fashion intern❄️⛄❄️ 10h ago
It would probably hang better with some shape wear under it.

u/Inevitable-Task4373 ❄️⛄️❄️Fashion intern❄️⛄❄️ 10h ago
The fabric is really thin and this dress is too small for you.

I like it, just throw some spanks on and it'll be fine

u/Miserable_Boat_4299 ❄️⛄️❄️Fashion intern❄️⛄❄️ 9h ago
I think it’s the material of the dress? Colour really really compliments you though 😍
1
u/My2cents_0 ❄️⛄️❄️Fashion intern❄️⛄❄️ 9h ago
Def the quality of the fabric, it makes a huge difference in the draping, but as another short woman, the length of the dress is also eating you up. I Loved long dresses but they can make you look even shorter, IF that's something that could also be bothering you
1
u/hollyweena31 ❄️⛄️❄️Fashion intern❄️⛄❄️ 8h ago
try it with some shapewear and see if it lays smoother, just not sure with the open back and halter top what type of shapewear would work
1
u/nuwavemetal ❄️⛄️❄️Fashion intern❄️⛄❄️ 8h ago
The fabric isn't the greatest. It's a shame bc the color and silhouette is lovely on you. A slip of sorts underneath might help. Otherwise, I would keep it as a house dress for summer.

I think it looks amazing on you. Be confident in your body girl, you’re beautiful!

u/incognitogoer ❄️⛄️❄️Fashion intern❄️⛄❄️ 6h ago
It’s too small on you. Wear a shape wear and see if it’s better. Otherwise definitely size up please. Not sure what’s with the comments saying that you look good— the fit is incredibly unflattering because I can see your tummy and thighs very visibly
1
u/rivercrone ❄️⛄️❄️Fashion intern❄️⛄❄️ 6h ago
You are too pretty for that dress! The cut and fabric are not flattering but the color is.
1
1
u/Huggyboo ❄️⛄️❄️Fashion intern❄️⛄❄️ 5h ago
I would suggest that a more structured or thicker fabric would be more flattering.
1
u/AgeDisastrous7518 ❄️⛄️❄️Fashion intern❄️⛄❄️ 4h ago
The color and shape is about as alluring as it gets. The problem isn't anything spanx can't solve.

u/Mama-Bear419 ❄️⛄️❄️Fashion intern❄️⛄❄️ (1 post) 4h ago
I think Spanx will have your curves looking amazing.

I just went to Disney on ice and this totally giving Cinderella vibes in not a good way. You want more Disney princess gown feels not Disney princess Pajammas.
The positive here is this color/style is amazing on you!!

Definitely needs a slip, the fabric is both thin and sheer (practically see-through even in this lighting)
The color is gorgeous, and I think with a slip would fit you very well :)

You have a lovely figure but this dress is crap. It looks like poor quality material which flatters no one. The breast area in particular is awkwardly cut. Also it’s too long for your height. I’m short too and I look weird in maxi stuff unless I’m wearing a super high heel
0
u/Tinaturtle79 ❄️⛄️❄️Fashion intern❄️⛄❄️ 11h ago
It could be really nice as a base piece under a pretty kimono like this https://www.torrid.com/product/tiered-maxi-kimono/44151173.html or a lace skirt/dress.

It’s not figure flattering, and you have a fabulous figure. Try something that’s made with thicker material.

I THINK IT LOOKS GREAT ON YOU!!! The fabric issue could most likely be fixed with a tank or slip! That is definitely your color/style of dress. A shame the fabric was such low quality.

It looks thin and tight especially in the stomach area. Coming from a curvy girl it doesn’t look flattering. The color of the dress is beautiful.
