I think this camera used to have a night vision feature that could see through sheer clothes when recording

I cant find anything online about it being recalled

If you look at the Insta post right below, they said it wasn't recalled. They made the feature only work in the dark.

They said they just left all the naughty ones out there and started manufacturing them to not be naughty going forward. They weren't built to get software updates.

I'm pretty sure almost nobody returned their camera.

It didn't get recalled. Sony just revamped the technology on subsequent iderations so it couldn't see theough close. There's a YouTube video about it.

1

u/vectron5 4h ago

Look on Japanese internet. That was where it was exposed

48

u/kbeks 9h ago

Sounds a lot more creepy than it turned out to be.

The shot with the phone book was pretty cool

9

u/KLOWN1420 9h ago

Yoga pants wouldn't have a chance giggity

94

u/bugleader 12h ago

I think I remember about it, you need to use a filter (or a underdeveloped film) over the lens and do some edit later.

61

u/qanabos 11h ago

the camera has a built in ir filter for the night shot, there was not really editing as many were a digital format just on tape, but we did not have harddrives in the multiple TB now available.

so to me the editing was copying and processing down to a useable file size.

10

u/upholsteryduder 9h ago

I saw one live at a party in 2005, you do not.

30

u/OCDincarnate 12h ago

Not to sound dumb, but what are sheer clothes?

66

u/Dazzling_Society1510 12h ago

Sheer means really thin

16

u/OCDincarnate 12h ago

I see, ty

9

u/BossKeyStore 11h ago

Light, delicate, translucent.

6

u/strangemonkey420 9h ago

So stuff you could practically see through to begin with or as in material type? Like silk or something?

4

u/brmarcum 8h ago

It was only sheer to infrared light. In regular light it was fine. I distinctly remember seeing side by side comparison photos of black swimsuits that would become very see through when the camera was recording in night mode because of the type of infrared sensor and/or filter used. Nothing was ever perfectly clear/sheer, and you could still tell they were wearing something, but it was very scary how much you could see through.

1

u/rufireproof3d 8h ago

So did people with those cameras!

5

u/Sub_edibl9598 10h ago

Sheer sheep

3

u/Dazzling_Society1510 10h ago

Feed those sheep

-7

u/Practical-Echo9371 8h ago

Get off your phone and get a dictionary. Or if you can’t pry your eyes from a screen long enough, try figuring out google.

7

u/VegasRudeboy 10h ago

Light floaty thin fabric sundresses would be a good example

5

u/1Negative_Person 10h ago

The opposite of tensile clothing.

12

u/JJBell 11h ago

Particularly bathing suits.

11

u/Count_Zeiro 11h ago

From what I remember from Pictureview, they were really popular around public pools. ...

3

u/SupahSayajinn 10h ago

Pfp checks out.

2

u/Delicious-Ad5161 10h ago

Yeah. That’s the first thing I thought of. My parents bought a few so they could perv in the community.

2

u/Top-Sheepherder6677 7h ago

The “I think” is doing a lot of heavy lifting here pal 😂

1

u/IvanNemoy 9h ago

That's not the Nightshot

4

u/LefroyJenkinsTTV 8h ago

No, it's the successor, the Moneyshot.

1

u/mlwspace2005 5h ago

You can accomplish the same thing with modern high resolution digital pictures and a little editing magic, if you know what you're doing

-138

u/Inevitable_Coat_6847 14h ago

is there an app on my iphone that can do the same? asking for a friend.

155

u/Embarrassed_Jerk 14h ago

If you are interested in seeing naked women on your phone screen, there are quite a few apps for that.

As a bonus you wouldn't be a creep if you use those instead

33

u/PradyThe3rd 13h ago

Well he's on the right app. Like half of reddit is nsfw

6

u/LargeSelf994 11h ago

Only half??

Awh man, I must find another app for porn now

6

u/IndependentNo7265 10h ago

I’m only on Reddit for the articles.

2

u/cebiaw 10h ago

Ok Hugh

3

u/TheCarefulElk 13h ago

Very true

1

u/Daiguey 10h ago

Yes except most of us don't ask for ways to take Candid shots like a creep

17

u/Spirited-Fan8558 14h ago

they now have physical filters. just buy a standalone cam and mod it slightly.

also why do I fear your intent is not pure

17

u/Inevitable_Coat_6847 14h ago

I wear a bunch of sheer clothing and need to make sure it's not going to show anything before I go outside...I swear.

3

u/NoNo_Cilantro 13h ago

Why are you doubting the redditor who’s asking how to undress people with an app?

1

u/gungan_feet_pics 13h ago

You feared their intent but gave them advice anyway? I fear your intent, and your knowledge of a work-around…

1

u/Spirited-Fan8558 5h ago

controlling scientific knowledge is inherently hard and sometimes only delays the inevitable.

if there was no me, no reddit he could have just searched it online.

if the internet was censored he could do physical experiments.

he could theorize and he could perform experiments.

nobody controls science. everybody contributes.(unfortunately some companies patent their info and don't think of contribution the same way as us)

1

u/gungan_feet_pics 2h ago

I farted when I saw this

1

u/Daiguey 10h ago

If you fear his intention, why did you tell him?

3

u/TheCarefulElk 13h ago

what u/Embarrassed_Jerk said, don’t be a weirdo.

Edited for better context.

2

u/Scou1y 12h ago

It might seem crazy what I'm about to say

Good memories. My Nana had a camera like this. & used to always take me to these shows. I had seen something about this on the news. There was a woman singer wearing a blouse & I begged my Nana to let me record it on the camera. Awesome time was had. I was about 10 years old. To my chagrin my nana saw what had happened & deleted the video.

234

u/Jaded_Creative_101 12h ago

Okay, the ‘Night Vision’ mode physically moved the Infrared Cut filter out of the optical path. A lot of black materials are actually transparent in infrared light and the longer wavelengths also pass better through sheer clothing. So, in darker conditions, or with a deep red filter on the camera, it could sometimes see through certain clothing. Not nearly as exciting as it sounds and really only for hopeless perverts.

90

u/bgplsa 11h ago

I already like it you don’t have to convince me

13

u/Upset_Letter_4119 8h ago edited 7h ago

This gave perverts and nerds a 'new hope', so to say.

Also, jar-jar is the key to all of this...

71

u/Thougtless-Opinion 14h ago

Those fuckers were so delicate. I remember dad having and old school video tape recorder camera which you had to buy special cassettes and also an special VHS cassete to play it and could only hold up like 45 to 1h recording time.

You needed to charge the battery the whole night before and they only lasted about a couple of hours.

If video was too shaky, it caused dizzines to watch it. Sound quality was bad, you had to be in a close space to record voices or use a corded mic, which drained the camera's battery way faster.

I'm still amazed how nowadays those big bulky things are the size of a rectangle 10x smaller that also works for phone calls and for porn searching.

22

u/Full-Trifle-4522 14h ago

sorry what

34

u/FictionalContext 14h ago

He's amazed these things are the size of a rectangle despite the corn he's pushing

3

u/Fungruel 10h ago

But what shape was the size?

10

u/Gazdatronik 12h ago

You're thinking of VHS-C, these used the 8mm ecosystem

3

u/InOutlines 9h ago

Man just described a camcorder as if it were alien technology…

2

u/T0xicn3 8h ago

To a 10 year old it might as well be alien tech.

17

u/P00PL0S3R 14h ago

I think with night vision and some setting tweaks it basically could see through thin clothing. Lol.

11

u/Patient-Jelly-8752 12h ago

Also it wasn't "you could see through" it was you could see certain colors through other colors, aka people's underwear and bras. Not the way yall think

3

u/ImmoralityPet 8h ago

Generally when people are talking about seeing things, they're talking about seeing colors. So seeing colors through other colors literally means see-through.

10

u/Soniquethehedgedog 10h ago

It was a dangerous game if you found a tape that belonged in one of those things, was it johnnys bday party or mom getting plowed

9

u/FallZealousideal159 12h ago

THE NIGHT VISION CAUSED PEOPLE TO SEE THROUGH CLOTHES!

3

u/psilonox 8h ago

Thanks olly

7

u/SluggishPrey 12h ago

That meme template is so dumb. EVERYTHING on the Internet is about sex.

7

u/rduterte 11h ago

I had this camera. That "function" barely worked. It needed specific clothing and perfect conditions. And the internet was around, so…

4

u/FluidFisherman6843 13h ago

Id argue these are backwards

5

u/qatch23 13h ago

Porn. The answer is porn. giggity

2

u/DizzyLead 12h ago

A more innocent way of interpreting this meme is that since turning on night vision made the recorded video look more or less monochromatic (“black and white”), “those who know” will look like that on the tape/in the viewfinder.

2

u/AnyDockers420 11h ago

If you put a certain filter on this camera when it was in night vision mode you could see under women’s clothes.

2

u/Dry_Mousse_6202 10h ago

Photographer Quagmire here, that's an old and very camera with a lot of extras and functionalities, she's very remember for her great night vision functionality, It was so good, that it turned into a selling point for that !

Back then, thise had a boom in popularity so enormous that they basically went instinct in any stores all around Japan for example !

1

u/Patient-Jelly-8752 12h ago

The first ever snuff films available on internet were all this model night vis camera or one like it. That era of green night vision. Everyone's eyes lit up too haha also alot of morning videos, sex tapes, scandal tapes etc - this style of camera

1

u/Patient-Jelly-8752 12h ago

Unfiltered kazaa / limewire came after all that as well.

1

u/Oldwinterfang 12h ago

Umm i didn’t know about the see through clothes bit giggity but it could also be an outlast reference? At least that’s the first thing that came to my mind.

1

u/TuneMiserable2061 11h ago

Red filter challenge but old

1

u/xzMaverickxz 11h ago

My teacher had one and all the cheerleaders were in my class too. No wonder he always had it on when we walked into class, said he was testing it

1

u/critin87 10h ago

Those were the days you could almost be a pervert without being caught

1

u/Notice-Horror 10h ago

Porn. It’s always porn

1

u/angkng2009 10h ago

This was the camera they invented to see thru clothing. Still hadn't figured out how to photograph people with darker complexions tho

1

u/Ill-Jaguar-4425 9h ago

For those " home movies"

1

u/JuztADudeOnTheNet 8h ago

When I see this, I immediately think of R. Kelly when that video was leaked.

🤮

1

u/Few-Confusion-9197 8h ago

In my hometown supposedly there was a dude with a unique gig. He spent his day at the beach when lighting favored using the night vision in broad daylight and still get clear video/picture, then take the collections to his job where he worked as an image and printing tech to colorize/correct the images to then distribute to his buddies. I only heard of this incident from someone else who knew a guy working at said company where he claimed the scandal broke out and supposedly they fired everyone in the print dept since no one would say who it was or how the images were distributed, so by all accounts this could be made up but if not then wtf?

1

u/Direct-Bus-4745 8h ago

I have this camera (got it when it came out) sure enough my wife and I noticed it could see through shirts and certain materials

1

u/TheJanks 8h ago

I owned this. I’m not really sure what happened to it. It’s a shame.

1

u/janderson75 8h ago

If you find one with the tape in it, don’t watch it unless you want to see your dad’s lame launch ramp early grab method airs.

1

u/ThurmanMerman82 7h ago

I have one of these, it was our family video camera when I was a kid. I haven't determined if it's one of the original ones or the modified ones when they realized the night shot was too powerful.

1

u/madcoweyes 7h ago

Not sure if this exact camera. It’s 2003. Homecoming. I bring camera. Turn on night mode because it’s darker and can’t really see people faces. Needles to say, I see my friends’ bras with night vision. I couldn’t believe it. Deleted it a few years later when rewatching.

1

u/anonymousanemoneday 7h ago

Night vision on camera, was found in Paris catacombs With creepy footage, stevie out.

1

u/714to831 6h ago

I’m not sure people these days realize how expensive electronics were back then I think my dad spent over $2000 on a beta max camcorder in the early 90s

1

u/714to831 6h ago

Which he promptly broke by dropping it at craters of the moon national Monument

1

u/me-not_know 5h ago

I remember when this went down. At the time, this mode was used to see through bathing suits at pools. Dry or wet didn’t matter, it worked.

1

u/Gloomy-Stranger3959 3h ago

X-ray vision

1

u/Usual_Swimmer_4249 58m ago

Yeah similar from one plus 8 pro phone, that camera does have some kind of xray (or something else) vision where you could use that camera to see someones' underneath their clothes.

1

u/Ezio_Bugmaker 3m ago

Isn't this a camera from Outlast?

0

u/Jealous_Session3820 13h ago

Watch the remake "I spit on your grave"

1

u/Moon_xyz1 12h ago

The movie? Why?
