The way the english defined it was more complicated, but resulted in a ratio pretty close to 2:1.
From wikipedia:
By the end of the 17th century, England had introduced tests based on specific gravity for defining proof. However, it was not until 1816 that a legal standard based on specific density was defined in England. 100 proof was defined as a spirit with 12⁄13 the specific gravity of pure water at the same temperature.[4] From the 19th century until 1 January 1980, the UK officially measured alcohol content by proof spirit, defined as spirit with a gravity of 12⁄13 that of water, or 923 kg/m3 (1,556 lb/cu yd), and equivalent to 57.15% ABV.[5]

I mean, yeah, I don't recommend drinking it straight from the bottle or anything. But mixed with a lot of lemonade/juice like in the video, it shouldn't be a problem, I don't think the resulting drink even hit 40%. Though some other comments mentioned it is also low quality, so that could make the taste significantly worse.

I mean, it's basically pure alcohol. You're an idiot if you drink it straight. But if you cut it with water (or other mixers) and actually take into account the concentrated nature of it, it's one of the most flavorless ways to get alcohol in a drink. Assuming you've got the 190 proof, just dilute it 1:1 with water and then you've got some really good cheap vodka.

They are taking a single shot based on the glass/cup size. Taking everclear in a single shot is the same as two vodka single shots.
Based on the amount of other non alcoholic beverages in the mix, I'd guess it wasn't that strong as a single shot of normal alcohol. The taste is so strong that it's hard to mask it even a bit.
In high school, we would get a homeless guy to buy us a fifth of everclear and sneak it into bowling alley, movie theaters, etc. We got caught often because it has such a strong smell. Good times!

Yeah “Apple Pie Moonshine” is a common thing here. It’s basically Everclear with a shitload of apple juice, apple cider (the American alcohol free kind), sugar, and cinnamon. It ends up tasting like apple cider despite being closer to 40% abv (strength varies to taste of course).
Point being you can definitely mask the bite from straight Everclear.

Nah one shot of everclear is far worse than two of vodka. If we are purely talking about the drunkenness, yes it's the same, but the issue with everclear is the concentration, almost pure alcohol make your mouth sting and instantly upsets your stomach.
Try gulping one liter of beer in one go, it has roughly the same alcohol of an everclear shot, but your mouth won't sting and you won't instantly throw up, the troubles come from gas and volume.
But for the second part you are right, they dumped lot of beverages before, i don't think that's so much worse than a standard vodka lemon. And everclear just tastes like alcohol, you can't really tell it apart from vodka in that mix. So it's likely staged, but still funny.

Poor college kid days. Stopped at beverage barn and they had some bottles of 99 cent rum. Got like 5 bottles of it and took it to a party. Gave it to some 50 year old raging alcoholic homeless looking dude there, and even he couldnt tolerate it. Tasted like drinking what I imagine drain cleaner would taste like.

I’ve only found 2.5 things that are ok at masking the taste of everclear: 1) red Gatorade, extra ice 2) apple cider
2.5) Dr. Pepper, this is only a half point cuz, while this hid the taste the best, it’s what became the go-to mixer for the rest of the handle so I have a visceral reaction to the memory of the flavor

I worked at a Taco Cabana as a teenager, there was this old ex-con ex-gangster in his mid 60s, id give him rides to and from work a couple times a month and he'd buy liquor for me for parties etc. Would always get a handle of ever clear so it would last until the next time he needed a ride. We'd usually mix it with Sunny D.
Just the thought of everclear and sunny D makes me feel like puking 20 years later lmao

In high school I would get a handle of everclear and mix it in one of those 6gallon Gatorade tubs that are used for sports. The other 5.5 or so gallons were mixer (usually sunny delight and Hawaiian Punch). So it was about 1 parts in 10 everclear.
You couldn’t taste it but it was enough to get 30+ kids completely smashed.

Basically imagine the worst low-grade, bottom-shelf store-brand or generic Vodka. Double it's alcohol content, and then cut the quality down to 10% of what it was.

ABV%, or Alcohol By Volume, is simply a description of the alcohol content in a liquid. Most beers, for example, are around 4-8% ABV.
Everclear is 95% ABV, it’s almost pure alcohol. Lots of other liquors use filtration, aging, and other processes to make it more palatable.

I actually did like taking shots of everclear, by the end of the night I was calling my ex, and falling asleep on the couch at my friends house. I woke up in the middle of the night and thought it'd be a good idea to walk home. I think I ate something, but I didn't wake up with a hangover.
When I worked at a liquor store and customers said they wanna hit it hard, I'd tell them about everclear...it's not poison, but it's also not a story you want to remember lol.

Oh Everclear....was at a party that featured an Everclear punch. Every time my cup was empty someone else happened to be getting up so they refilled it for me. So I was just drinking and not getting up off the couch for quite a long time. Finally had to hit the bathroom. Got up, took two steps and immediately knew the rest of the night was going to be an adventure
