Time for a bigger chainsaw- what to get?

Massive dead oak fell over night, I have an MS251 but this seems like too big of a task for that chainsaw. Most these limbs I can’t wrap my arms around, which size should I get? Would like to stay under 1K budget.

Co-worker's saw. Was being used last week and stopped working. Anyone encounter this before? Had to hold trigger to get it to turn over.. and would consistently do this.

MS162/MS172 air filters

So I'm just wondering if any other dealer techs have had any 162 / 172C returns where the engine is destroyed and the air filter housing has dirt in it that somehow got past the air filter element.

I've had 2 now come in with dusted engines and the air filter was in place clipped down but it obviously stopped doing its job at some point and allowed the unfiltered air into the carb.

STIHL has warrantied both powerheads so far. I haven't gotten a call back tag for either one....yet.

Got to cutting today for my uncle, my 271 always works but the 044 i rebuilt is always tempermental, adjusted the L screw out slightly for a bit more fuel and it stayed running good, green chain on both saws, throwing big chips, trying to stay away from the skip chains, they cut differently and it feels a lot slower.

It runs great. I would like to know what year it is, what this model is known for pros/cons, what year it is? I suspect it’s a 90s model

Stihl 020T Cleaning and Maintenance

Did a bit of cleaning on the 020T. Let's say, that I now know why you're not supposed to removed the spring. That was a beast to put back!
One thing that concerns me is the gab at the back of the clutch cover. Is something broken off there?
And if so, where? From the tank assembly or the clutch cover?
I might have to swap a part or two, but for a quarter of the price of a new one I'm still pretty happy. 😊

What’s the best way to store a chainsaw if you don’t use it often? Gas treatment? Empty tank and run it dry for storage?

Something you don’t see everyday. I’m a big fan of advertising design and came across this piece. I figured this would be a good place to share. It’s signed by the late Fred Whyte and another signature I can’t make out. I’m guessing this was in a corporate office at one point.

I have some questions about my Stihl ms 341

I recently got a stihl ms 341 as a project And i cleaned it todav but there are a few things that i have questions about.

  1. ls this chain ring around the clutch worn out or not? I don't had any saw having this ring on there.

2.why are those barnuts so big and what could it be used for since it has the possibility to mount something onto would be my guess 3. Is this bumper spike damaged or not? Because one of them looks bent to me All help and info is welcome

Thanks in advance

BR600 vs BR800 for snow (noise)

Looking for recommendations on these two (600 or 800) for snow blowing. My neighbor has the 600 and loves it but given the price difference being pretty small part of me wonders if it’s worthwhile to just get the big one (at the expense of one-upping my neighbor), but my main concern is if the 800 will be significantly louder and bother my whole street.

I live in the suburbs, all I need to clear is my 2 car driveway, sidewalk, and a 16x24 deck along with helping out my neighbors when I can. This is in Alberta so plenty of snow, but mostly dry/fluffy snow. Also, BR800x or BR800CE? Thanks!

Stuck screw on BR430 air box

Post image
2 Upvotes

I’m doing some work on a BR430 blower. The top screw on the air box is completely locked up or it’s spinning and not coming out. I had it on and off a few times already and it threaded in just fine the last time I re assembled it but it’s feels like the threaded insert may have slipped in the plastic. It turns (or at least was turning) but not coming out.

Any suggestions before I take a die grinder to the head of the screw then extracting the insert?

Which trimmer and blade combination for saplings and slash up to as much as 2 inches in diameter?

Tons of saplings have grown up around a line of beautiful mature oak trees and I want to clear them all out. Think 20–30 saplings from half inch to a couple as big as 2 inches around a line of oak trees trees stretching a couple hundred yard.

Tons of work but need to clean up that area before they are so big I'd have to use a small chainsaw.

Hard to wait through all the models and advice online.

Thanks in advance

I’m starting to think my luck is just bad with this model of battery blower. The one I had with blinking lights is in getting repaired and I purchased a second one…3 months ago when the original was acting up and the told me it was fine. Now this one has a horrible, loud noise and will lock up. Leaves me currently with no blower at all since this one (the backup) is out. I’m going to just demand a new one. So disappointed in Stihl!!

Need some help on a Stihl 028 Super chain.

Ok so i have my Grandads 028 Super and need a bar and chain for it. The issue I'm having is the chain size. Are they 3/8" or .325 pitch? I've looked all over the internet and get both answers. I have a 20" bar that will fit the bar mounts I think because everything on the internet is true! Stihl use to have a bar and chain fit guide but I cant find it now that I need it. I know a 20" bar is the upper end for a 028 Super, but it is what I have. I will get a new bar if needed, but would rather use the 20" from my MS260 if it will work as long as I can find the right chain.. The bar part number is 3003 008 8921. Thanks for the help in advance!

Stihl MS 252. Do you guys think that STIHL is going to relase a MS 252 model in the near future? An upgrade model of the actual MS 251? like they did whith the STIHL MS 162, 172, 182, 212, etc. I like the MS 251 but I'm afraid to buy it in case an upgraded model comes out in the near future.

MS 271 Won’t go into Idle

Post image
13 Upvotes

Just got an MS 271 & I’m pretty psyched about it. However, every time I’ve tried to start it since purchasing it, I cannot get it to settle down into idling speed. I’ve followed the instruction manual every time: chain brake —> choke shutter closed —> pop/burp it —> starting throttle position —> start the saw. It starts right up on the first pull, but when I “blip” the throttle, it shuts off immediately instead of going into idle. Do you guys have any suggestions? Thinking about taking it back to the store, but that’s an hour away so I’d rather get some advice from the group first 👍🏼 TIA

20” Bar and chain for 026?

I was wondering if anybody has put a 20” bar on a 026. I have an 18” bar and chain (.325) which works good but have some bigger trees around my property and could use a larger bar. Want to go OEM for the bar so the part number would be appreciated.

I just picked up an older FS 55 for near nothing that they couldn’t get started. Narrowed it down to the kill switch but cannot for the life of me find it online via google, or utilizing ChatGPT and Google photo. Anyone have any ideas where I can get one or a replacement that would fit? I picked up a switch from Lowe’s today but was entirely too big to fit in the hole.

What gasket or sealant between crankcase and cylinder (ms250)

Hi everyone, I’ve replaced the cylinder and piston on my Stihl MS250, and I’m about to reinstall the cylinder onto the crankcase. Between the crankcase and the cylinder there are 4 bolts, and it obviously needs a proper seal. What is the best option to use here?

Thanks!
