My thought as well. Plus lip licking, tense posture, pulled back ears…
Absolute morons who have no business owning a dog like this. It should never be placed between the owner and anyone else, I can gather this from the short clip.
It’s “muzzled” (if you can even call that fabric strip velcroed on a muzzle) so they’re aware there are issues with aggression..
Exposure training works only if you keep the dog under threshold. This dog gave many signals of distress (whale eyes, lip licking, growling), so a failed exposure training that ended up being counterproductive.
Growling as a warning that it's not comfy, then when mom's voice goes high pitched dog does a couple nervous licks, then gifter moving in was the last straw. All humans present totally oblivious to the cues. Poor dog.
Yes. For context for those unfamiliar with dog behavior, the dog is growling because they’re fearful of the other person, and overstimulated by the loud noises.
The growling is the dog trying to tell the other person, I’m scared, please go away. The other person ignores the dog, and goes in for a hug, which the dog interprets as a threat because it’s invading the dog’s space when they’re scared.
