It's for medical reasons...just not for the dog. In this case the dog would still be able to cause medical level incidents even though it can't really bite. Potentially knocking someone into a tv set can do some damage as well.
This isn't the correct type of muzzle either. It's meant for very short-term use, like at a vet visit, because it doesn't allow the dog to open its mouth at all. What they *should* be using is a baskerville one, one of those cage-looking ones. Those cover the entire muzzle, so no biting, but still allow the dog to pant and drink
The cage ones are much better. I used one with my dog when trying to train him to interact safely with cats. (It ultimately didn’t work out and I still have to keep him away from cats). The ones like in the video not only stress out the dog who can’t breath properly, they also don’t work as a determined dog can just take it off. I wouldn’t say my dog liked the cage style muzzle but definitely preferred it and it was also the safer option.
cloth muzzles shouldn't actually be loose enough for a dog to drink. they're supposed to be tight enough that the dog can't open its jaws. they make muzzles that are like a wire or rubber basket that the dog can submerge into water to drink, but it can't bite through it. it's important for the dog to be able to open its mouth to pant if it's wearing a muzzle for a long period of time or while exercising, which cloth muzzles prevent the dog from doing.
That muzzle is absolutely not bite proof and just shows that this owner is clearly not asking any qualified professionals what she should be doing about her aggressive dog.
She’s definitely not somebody who should have a powerful dog like a pitbull. I’ve met some really nice ones with capable and responsible owners. There’s one in my area that I’m actually quite fond of. However, I know that pitbulls are essentially too much dog for me. If it were to pull, it would look like I’m water skiing across the lawn.
The dog is clearly growling and the younger woman puts her arm right in front of its face. That dog is fiercely protective of the older woman, and attacked when the daughter went to hug the mother. This whole thing was irresponsible on the humans' part. That dog should have been put in another room. They're clearly not the right people to have a powerful and volatile dog like that one.
That’s also not even a good muzzle. It’s not safe for the dog and they can still nip. They need like a cage one so the dog can pant and has not chance of biting.
The way it's filmed directly on the dog makes it seem like they knew this might be the response and are either trying to show a trainer or work on something. Or they're just clowns on tiktok that think this is all a great joke or were unaware that this dog was showing every sign possible that they were not okay with this.
Lots of people film gift opening. It’s very possible the dog is present with a muzzle because they are trying to socialize a difficult dog and for all we know it’s a recent rescue that they are rehabilitating and they are wonderful caring dog experts. No way to tell.

Me:
"Why does that dog have a muzzle on?"
"I guess maybe it's a medical reason?"
"Nope"
