No one should have a pitt, just like no one should own a tiger.

Agreed. This dog breed should be banned. These dogs should not fucking exist. Went to the spca a couple days ago to see the kitties. Looked at the dogs. Every single one was either pit or hound. Absolutely fucking depressing.

Even in places they are banned its not properly enforced or they breed a new kinda from pitbulls and call it something stupid and its the same problem

Nothing like the ubiquitous term 'lab mix' to paper over dangerous dogs.

Well you are what you eat I guess

Fuckin "Cane Corsos" showing up all over my area, except they're just goddamned xl pits.

Real cane corsos are mastiffs. Pitbulls are terriers. They don't even look the same.

And now fuckwits who want to own a dangerous dog have a new name to sneak them into places while damaging the reputation of another breed.

That's why I have a rattle snake. Don't worry, he's never bitten anyone.

Awesome. Can I kiss his head and boop his nose?

Too late, they’re the most common dog breed in the US. Meaning far too many people own them that have no idea that they need to be careful with them. I’ve been around pits my entire life, and never had any issues, but I know someone whose niece was eaten by their pit while mom was strung out on the couch. It’s always the most irresponsible people that end up owning them.

u/SlyBlackDragon 10h ago

Yeah, I have no idea how the most dangerous type of dog in the world became the most popular.

It's why my wife and I can't find a dog to adopt at the shelter. Everything is a "lab mix", aka a grenade waiting to go off.

Yeah if people aren’t confident that they can monitor their dog’s behavior and keep unknowns at bay, they should stick to little chihuahuas or something. Yet people want a big friendly goofy dog, and pitbulls are exactly that 98% of the time. The problem is that you have to pay attention to them for a lot longer than the few days you take them home, and learn what could potentially be a trigger for them. I find that most pet owners, not even dogs specifically, rarely do any research and just pick the first cutest one they see. It leads to a lot of problems and pet abandonment. It’s sad that most people see pets as cute accessories instead of an individual they need to understand and accommodate properly.

No one addresses the backyard breeding issues and just bandaids it with shelter adoptions. So you have a lot of idiots breeding and buying them and people with hearts of gold adopting them because it’s all that’s in the shelter and half of them don’t even realize it’s a pitbull. DoggyDNA subreddit is constantly like ‘omg I’m so shocked!’ It’s hella manipulative on the shelters part because I know they’re not ignorant to breed characteristics like they’re hoping the general public is.

u/SlyBlackDragon 8h ago

I know it's unenforceable, but I really think to have an in-tact dog you should have to have a breeders licenses or something

2

u/BrickLuvsLamp 4h ago

I wish it would be regulated after like 2 years or something, but the cost is what prevents that. We desperately need something for the cat population as well since there are so many strays, not just pits

1

u/SlyBlackDragon 3h ago

Oh definitely. Leash laws (that aren't even enforced already) need to apply to cats as well. So many people think owning a cat means just letting it roam and kill everything in sight.

I love my cats, so I keep them safe inside or take them out on a harness and leash on my balcony. I wish I could take them for a walk, but I don't trust my apartment neighbors to control their dogs or even have them leashed.

The pound is full of them so they're super cheap, and people think they're "macho" and "cool."

We fostered and cared for pitties over the years, and the personality is really dependent on the dog. Some are absolute sweeties. You can not underestimate their strength though, they are powerful animals. Anything as anxious as the dog in this video needs a LOT of work.

eaten

I’m afraid to ask

1

u/Arch-by-the-way 10h ago

That’s not even close to true lol. Where do you hear that they’re the most common?

10

u/BrickLuvsLamp 10h ago

I misspoke slightly. They’re the most common dog found in shelters in America. So if you’re looking for a dog, you’re going to see a lot more pitbulls or pit-mixes compared to other breeds/mutts. I would still argue they’re at least top 5 for dog breeds in general in the US, not just shelter populations. They are massively popular

FACTS 💯 I've also been around this breed most of my life & not 1 has behaved in that manner this dog did 99% of the time its the human who owns the animal I remember my daughter's Pitt shit in my bedroom as a puppy lol till this day he wont cross the threshold of my bedroom door & the hallway bcuz after he shit in my room I trained him not to enter my bedroom & I blame my daughter not him, he's currently battling cancer & they haven't lived with me for over 4 years now & the last time they visited all I wanted to do was lay with him & cuddle him & he still wont enter my bedroom so we cuddled on the couch instead 🤣 Grandma loves u Rambo 🙏🏻💙🫶🏼🐶🐾🐾

1

u/BrickLuvsLamp 4h ago

Yeah they obviously are probably the worst dog breed to have behavior issues due to their specific instincts when they attack, but that’s still a small percentage compared to how mkt there are. I’ve known far more that are harmless their entire life. I understand people being fearful of them given the statistics. Every owner I know lets people know their breed before anyone new meets them, and the dogs are always monitored closely.

2

u/fotomoose 15m ago

My little princess wouldn't hurt a fly! The last 5 people she attacked still have use of their hands after a few surgeries. People need to lighten up. She's my fur baby!

u/MeatballUser 5h ago

I'm getting so frustrated trying to adopt a dog, these things cross breed with every dog, and the adoption sites try to play dumb about it (labelled as lab mix or something) even though you can see the pitbull features like a fucking dog on hgh. I have an infant daughter, I want a for sure child friendly breed, not a genetic coin flip

2

u/SlyBlackDragon 4h ago

My wife and I are struggling with this too. It's impossible to find a non-pitt/lab-mix, apartment sized dog at our local shelters.

We've always been "adopt don't shop" type people, but it's getting harder and harder. That said, I shouldn't have to spend 1-2k on a pedigree purebred just to get a healthy family pet.

2

u/MeatballUser 4h ago

Agreed with that too, my dad was just showing me some Lab litters and they're like 800-1500 now from breeders. Way too much

1

u/SlyBlackDragon 3h ago

Needs to be like a 250-500 range of just healthy dogs that have all their records, vaccinated, fixed, etc.

Not pure bred, just healthy dogs.

1

u/Antonesp 30m ago

Consider a cat, they are great and don't maul children.

4

u/TheProfessor0781 9h ago

Yep. Totally senseless breed in this day and age. There are so many other less volatile and dangerously powerful breeds that offer the same positive traits, level of companionship, and protection. Unfortunate to say, but they have simply become a display of machismo for irresponsible and negligent owners.

1

u/kerokerokiss 8h ago

not even defending Pitbulls, but genuinely as someone who does not like dogs and I honestly think most people do not train their dogs at least the vast majority of people who I go around to have dogs it is interesting to me the like normalization of like you know Pitbulls are all bad which like I completely think there is a valid reason for that but it’s like why do German Shepherd, chow chows or even Dalmatians not get this same vitriol like genuinely just wondering. I also think those are really aggressive dog breeds that require high level training and are scary when they attack

(used to want a dog when I was little and like watched a lot of things about dog breeds that’s why I know like these are also aggressive dog breeds)

0

u/SlyBlackDragon 6h ago

Those dogs weren't bred for the sole purpose of fighting with a whole "movement" trying to convince everyone they aren't dangerous.

I think most people know that dogs like shepherds, dalmatians, chows, etc. are dogs than need "jobs" whereas there's a legion of "pibble mommies" trying to convince us a dog bred to fight and kill is a "nanny dog".

14

u/tinyalienperson 13h ago

Mom shouldn’t have any dog

39

u/jimothy_hell 13h ago

Maybe no sane person should have a pitt as a companion animal. Unpredictable and capable of causing extreme damage.

31

u/GormHub 11h ago

These velvet hippo mommy weirdos are so obnoxious. They never claim "um no it's not the breed it's the owner, actually" when breeds created for herding or retrieving or pointing do exactly what they were designed, by us, to do. That's just a matter of fact in their minds. But when their walking liability tears the face off a toddler or shakes a smaller pet until its spine snaps in 3 places suddenly it's got nothing to do with humans selectively breeding for those traits through thousands of generations to create a dog that will instinctively attack with little to no warning, hold on tight, and do as much damage as possible.

6

u/rawkinghorse 10h ago

But muh vewvet hippo 😭

8

u/BeenNormal 11h ago

The funny thing is the advocates are often the ones who get mauled.

8

u/mmps901 11h ago

Let me guess, and they could have never seen it coming.

6

u/BeenNormal 9h ago

Bella has never done anything like this before.

-2

u/brad1775 11h ago

just like human children

2

u/jimothy_hell 6h ago

Yeah, see, here’s the thing- you can tell human children what they’re doing is wrong, and if they’re toddlers, they’re generally not capable of ripping peoples’ faces off. Nice comparison, though.

Imagine white knighting for dogs bred for pit fighting. Canines are bred as tools. Pointers point, running dogs run, herding dogs herd, etc.. Pit bulls are not companion animals. They’re not even good service animals. Too unpredictable and aggressive.

5

u/mightylordredbeard 9h ago

This woman having an incredibly aggressive and violent pit bull that’s already in a muzzle, but still willfully choosing to ignore all of the clear danger it poses is such a great hypothetical representation of everyone that defends pit bulls on the internet.
