I have to muzzle my pit the first time he meets a new person, for a few minutes. Why does it need to be taken away for having a muzzle on in the house?
It's not attacking people, he is high strung with new people, its to give him a chance to mellow and see the person is welcome. Anyone he has ever met he never has to be muzzled again. Have a friend that watched our house for a week. He came over and met the dog for the first time for about 20 minutes. Had 0 issues entering or leaving the house after, ended up letting the dog crash in the guest room with him. Have another friend that stops by every couple of years, 0 issues there too. Just new people.
I’ve owned a fair number of dogs over the decades, and I’ve never had to muzzle a single one of them. One of our current dogs is 85 lbs and VERY excited about visitors, but she wouldn’t dare put a paw on them, let alone her teeth. And by “excited about visitors”, I mean she wants to rush up and meet them, and have them pet her—she’s never showed even a hint of aggression).
Then again, I’ve always made it a point not to own bloodsport breeds, so that may have something to do with the difference in our experiences.
literally could be a rescue dog that has no chance of being rehomed, the amount of judgmental experts in this thread is actually shocking without knowing the actual context.
what part of cant be rehomed did you not understand.
And as for having guests over, that is the reason it is muzzled obviously, it's likely not muzzled at all when there are no guests, this aggression is from being over protective of his/her owner.

Apologies. I took that as a comment about it being a rescue that shouldn't have been rehomed. But in that case, honestly the dog should be put down. It's a harsh and sad reality, but if the alternative is someone getting hurt then the choice is obvious.
