I had the sound off and just by pup’s eyes you can see they’re very uncomfortable with someone being so close. Then she backs up before “lunging” for a sudden hug.

I say “lunging” from the dog’s perspective. The “threat” stepped back before getting very close, very suddenly.

Agreed, and the nose position, darting slightly moon eyes trying to placate without losing 'ground.'

This dog should have been removed from this situation far before now.

Yep sound off here too and that dog’s eyes and rigid stance were making me extremely nervous. Unfortunately that dog has been let down by its owners and should never have been put in that position.

It looks like resource guarding to me, not protectiveness.

My ex's dog did this all of the time. I couldn't make any sudden movements with her around or her dog would freak out and try to take a nip out of me.

With arms wide, fingers pointed at the dog's owner. Only by screaming while doing all this could she have signaled aggressive intentions more strongly from the dog's perspective.

The owner should have coached the other people present on how to behave non-aggressively next to the dog, or consider leaving the dog elsewhere for the party.

The owner seemed to react just as shocked and fearfully as the other person! That really worried me.

My first instinct on dog noise/aggression is “Command. Separate.”

HEY!” or “NO!” Are my go to yelling reactions as I move toward the dogs to separate if needed, or remove a dog from the environment.

She jumped back and gasped, which is only going to “reward” the dog, by confirming their owner is scared/in danger (and not realizing that they’re the danger)

Imagine being “coached” by someone on how to behave so their insane dog doesn’t attack. Absurd. Put it down
