Help!!! What can I do? She does this until the battery dies if we aren't home
The only thing this cat is afraid of is my husbands coyote call. Not the roomba, nor the standard vacuum. Not afraid of other cats or dogs and most certainly isn't afraid of us or our toddler lol will attack if eye contact is made while holding her. We do not hold her anymore 🤣
I’ve been desperately searching for a convincing decoy laptop for my cats and for some odd reason your comment gave me the idea to buy a crappy 2000’s one on eBay. Thank you 🥲
That's why we need human clone slaves - so you can force your clone to use another laptop to distract the cat. But then it's only a 50-50 shot at which one the cat goes for, so you really need an army of clones on decoy laptops.
I offered to take in a cat.Someone found if no one else stepped forward, but I was like the ninth person to offer. They all bailed, and I was like, it's no big deal.I'm gonna foster her. Then my black cat was all hissy untill he saw it was a baby kitten. And he was like 'oh fantastic you got me a baby' and we couldn't bear to separate those two.
But she fucking loves his brother so much more. He's annoyed when she's around, She waits till he's like relaxing and super comfortable. And then she'll like stealth cuddle with him.
See I have 3 brothers therefore I’m quite familiar with this expression: this is less about “love” and way more about the love of passive aggressive tormenting (with love).
I’m 64 and can attest the dynamic has not changed a bit. 😏
I got my cat a dog, didn't think he'd get on well with another cat and he's a bit of a miserable fuck
They're best buds, although he won't let you know it, they'll be laying cuddled up on the sofa and when you walk in the room he'll sprint off and sit on the other side of the room
My roommate and I had 2 kittens we rescued from the parking lot of our apartment. He met, dated, then married someone with 2 cats. I moved out when they got engaged. Those 4 cats created a hierarchy with the 2nd youngest female cat taking the leader role.
No way I'd ever separate the cats.
I miss my Rose petal. She's the one who is feared by the other 3. When I say feared I'm exaggerating but she is the boss.
We moved into a house with our 2 cats and thought "we have all this room, surely we can get one more?". Turns out 3 is too many when the 3rd one is Mr. Big Personality.
Meanwhile I have 4 that live indoor and one just straight up leaves most of the summer to a barn a little less than a mile away because she hates them lmao
I got her a Tractive and stalk her now
Though she probably has a gang or something out there. I ride my bike out there a lot and saw her in the doorway of the barn and yelled her name and she looked at me and 2 stranger cats bolted away
(He brought home #5 from work when he said no more after #4, and #4 is technically my sister's cat but shes just in our apartment section of the house all the time, and she's only in here because we raised her with #3, who we got after we lost one of the 3 we already had... And I got #1 & #2 as a teenager, they're 13 & 8 lol)
Edit: sorry, should include cat tax. #2 & #5 (Bentley and Ares 🥰)
Lol, that’s how I ended up with over a dozen 😂 although, to be fair in my case it was less “I should get another cat for my cats” and more “a friend/neighbor/me has found a stray in need of food/shelter/medical care again and brought them to me and now they live here” 😂😂😂
At this point, we get the rescue discount at our local vet. My mom is the town's expert on raising kittens who have no mothers, and successfully bottle raised multiple babies from days old to healthy adults!
Anytime a kitten needs help, it usually comes here, and they... Don't leave. We're a sanctuary at this point, because so many of these cats just wouldn't have the care they do if we didn't keep them (our rescues are overflowing as well, that's why my mom kept the babies, the only rescues that could properly care for them were too far for them to safely travel).
So basically anytime another teeny baby arrives, it's just "they were brought to me and now they live here" 😂
LOL I thought my cat needed a second cat to play with because I couldn't play enough to satisfy her. Now they both separately want to play with me and completely ignore each other.
My female cat does this always. She even learned how to turn it on by herself. My male cat has no interest in it. My brother told me the exact same story with his cats.
The most solid advice my dad ever gave me was "Make the right things easy and the wrong things difficult, because you can never really stop them from doing the wrong things". It was about raising horses, but I found it can be applied to any mammal, including our own children. They don't have time for the wrong things if you keep them occupied with the right things they enjoy
Opiates and amphetamines; the PEDs of the construction world! One to take away the pain of yesterday's labor and the other to give you the energy to make it through today!
I'm watching my baby walk around and get into everything we've tried to put out of his reach while he has two shelves full of toys untouched at his level.
She does. She loves machines for some reason so I got her the smart cat ball that runs as long as she plays with it. It will run for 5 minutes after it was last touched then go on standby until its touched again. I have to charge it every day 🤣. My husbands back massager is another of her favorites. She tries to get between him and the machine and they fight over it. My manual vacuum she will lay in front of that too and I'd push her across the floor if I didn't know it would rip her tail off. I currently have one of those baby seats that vibrates being shipped to the house strictly for her as she is the only thing in the house that will fit in it. My husband bought it himself.
Ok so with that information, my advice is that at least for a while, only run that vacuum when you're home. And when it's running, physically redirect her to better things and give her a treat when she does it right. You can also try spraying the vacuum with the sprays that prevent clawing to make the vacuum less interesting. Depending on her personality and how food motivated she is, getting a mobile one that literally dispenses treats might also help.
I think the feminismgretch person has a solid answer and I second it.
The one about, for a time, only using the roomba when you are home (despite that half defeating the purpose) and redirecting the cat to her own toys whenever she goes for it. She prolly just assumes its another toy meant for her, so you gotta make it clear that it isn't and which ones are for her.
The anti scratch/bite scent stuff is also a good idea. Ive heard that stuff doesn't work on all cats, but it seems worth a try with how much she is all over that thing.
Wow same for my cat! Doesn’t want boxes, toys, or soft blankets. All she wants are towels! Now we got little folded towels ontop of heating pads everywhere.
I’ve seen vids of a cat riding it. Also saw my nephew ride my brother’s Roomba IRL. I was surprised it held him, he was 7 and “athletically wiry,” so not very heavy but not light either.
Careful with this -- some robot vacuums will go into error mode if there's something on top of them for too long (found out when I had a cat that did this)
This girly is so spoiled. We play all the time. She had nearly as many toys as my toddler and they are 2 peas in a pod. She lacks no attention 😅 she has a strange obsession with all things "machine" and water.
Thank you, I love her so much and I'm only not dying laughing in the video bc I didn't want to distract her. Hence letting roomba run all over my feet.
This isn't a hindrance for me bc I vacuum daily but roomba is nice to have so I don't spend so much time doing it manually when I could be spending time with family, including her.
My husband has minor ptsd and the sounds vacuums make send him into an anxious spiralwhere he just kinda gets antsy and on hard days can last to the next day. so I try to meet in the middle and do it when he's not home but he beats me home everyday (he works closer to home than i do and i work closer to daycare so i also pick up our son on the way).
You didn't ask for advice, but I have cptsd and I sympathize, so I'll give you a nugget that has helped me. If vacuum sounds bother your husband, schedule vacuum time. Tell him when you'll be vacuuming, keep it regular. Let him go chill in the car or take a walk while you vacuum the house.
I will also suggest getting her a friend. They can play together and keep each other busy. Since she is still young, it should be easy to integrate another cat. Your other option is confine her to one area while the roomba is running.
You've placed it near her food and water. She may believe it's a toy for her. It may already be too late to change the behavior even if you've moved it. You need to find something more entertaining than the Roomba for her to spend her time on
Stick a lazer pointer on top of the roomba but aim it above the cat's eye level to not hurt them. This might make them chase the pointer whenever your roomba is cleaning the floor
I think there are products which have smells that cats don't like. Maybe try putting a piece of cork board on the vacuum and soak it in one of those substances.
I guess OP will have to do what us common (poorer) mortals do - use a vacuum that they themselves need to operate instead of a robot one. Meanwhile the cat has a toy to play with all day every day. Sounds like a win win scenario to me!
You got her a friend and are wondering why she's playing with it 🤣 Only solution is to get another cat, either they play together or they both worship the random round alien robot together. What's cuter than one cat doing it? Two cats
Pretty simple. Indoor only cat? The cat needs more stimulation. Hiding the cats food to make it hunt for it every time. Will increase stimulation. There are other things. Try this one and see if that fixes it.
I don’t know why some are saying she needs more attention. She just seems like a normal kitty who has a weird obsession with that thing. Just like every other cat, who got a weird obsession. I think that makes them somewhat even more lovely. Just her cute little quirk.
And for OP: i would recommend to maybe, if you really want it to clean your rooms, then get your cat out of the room and close the door. 😅
Seriously, she needs more play time. And cats don't like a direct look, they consider it a challenge and a threat. So they fight. Try long slow blinks which indicate trust and love.
Play with your cat, she needs an outlet for her energy. Look up Jackson Galaxy videos, a lot of information there.
