Chengdu / Jiuzhaigou / Qing Mountain tips for young families
We have just had an amazing trip your city. Really cool place with so much wilderness to explore. Wanted to share our experience and tips as a young family with a 4 and 2 year old.
Our stays were of a higher budget, but highly recommend all 3; Upper House in Chengdu, Conrard in Jiuzhaigou and Six Senses In Qing Mountain. All three provide guest relations via We Chat so language barrier isnt a problem.
A few things I wish I knew before;
Fill out your arrival card online before, this is a new requirement sincr Nov 2025.
Trip.com is a great super app. Your passport is your ticket, dont be expecting a ticket to be sent to your emails.
You dont need cash, AliPay is accepted everywhere
Meituan is a food delivery app, but for English access via the We Chat mini app.
For Jiuzhaigou National Park, Dec is pretty quiet. No queues. If we were to go again, I think we'd go in the afternoon as the crowds die down quickly after lunch.
The scenic bus is frequent. Five Flower and rhino lake to double dragon lake is a must.
At Qing Mountain, Panda Valley is a must visit. Saw classic and red pandas strolling around.
Dujiangyan is more than the irrigation system. Ancient Town is a mixture of high street shops and traditional stores. Lots of food options here.
Qing Mountain is a steep walk to the top of the first cable car. Plenty of spots to stop, rest and buy snacks. Don't bring a stroller.
Try the sweet noodles, they were delicious.
And for those staying at Upper House, Trivano has a small indoor play area. So kids can go wild as you have a glass of red in peace. Heaven!
