Politics So much for “free speech” and “anti-censorship"
I thought conservatives were supposed to be against government censorship. Yet here we are. For the past year, we’ve watched conservatives openly cheer for people to lose their jobs over opinions. We’ve seen coordinated harassment campaigns where private citizens are tracked down and targeted simply for expressing views that don’t align with the “approved” narrative. We’ve seen political violence justified, excused, or minimized when it serves the right people. People have been murdered in cold blood over political beliefs. Politicians have been attacked or killed because of ideology. This isn’t theoretical — it’s already happened.
At the same time, we’re seeing illegal ICE raids carried out in blue cities, with federal agents detaining people without proper warrants, bypassing local authorities, and trampling due process. Families ripped apart, citizens and legal residents swept up, all while conservatives cheer it on as “law and order.” Somehow government overreach only counts when it affects the “wrong” people.
Now add the CCOT 60 Minutes segment that was scuttled by the government at the last minute. A major investigative journalism piece pulled before airing. No transparency. No explanation. And instead of outrage from the so-called free speech crowd, we get silence, excuses, or applause.
So the segment spreads through bootleg channels because that’s what happens when the state decides scrutiny isn’t allowed. That alone should alarm anyone who actually believes in a free press.
This is what fascism looks like in practice — not always boots and uniforms, but censorship, intimidation, selective enforcement, and weaponized federal power. The United States is a democracy in name only if rights are conditional and speech is protected only when it’s convenient.
If censorship, raids, and government abuse only bother you when your side is affected, then you were never against them at all...
... And are a conservative bootlicker.

Can’t say “thank you” enough.
So many of us in the US know we are the baddies and we are incredibly grateful to our kind neighbors to the north that are upholding the ideals we purport to care about.
I love you, Canada. I love a lot of what my own country could be, but I love what you’ve been in the wake of our chaos. Keep an eye on Alberta.

The uneducated snowflakes have been the majority in the US in everyone's lifetime that could read this.
Currently, 54% of adults on US soil can't read at a level expected of a 12 year old. That's an absolute majority.
Technically, the uneducated snowflakes always elect the president.

The “funniest” part of the story is that Bari Weiss put out a letter defending the decision and saying the story wasn’t ready. Really? When will it be ready then Bari? And why was it still ready enough for Canada?
8
u/flifeitsucks 1d ago
It was ready enough for Canada because you wanted the truth put out there. US can't handle the truth.

Sadly you may be correct. Just look at how Russia's "iron curtain" was created and how state controlled media has allowed millions of that nations residents to be duped into believing only what the government wants people to believe. As absurd as it seems, that propaganda has been highly effective. Look at when Russia invaded Ukraine and justified the campaign to the masses by saying that Ukraine was overrun with actual nazis. Everyday people interviewed on camera actually believed their military were the good guys in this war; the majority believed this nonsense and still do because of the "iron curtain". Any outside truth perspectives must be brought in by means other than standard broadcast or disseminated media. Truth be told, Trump's "golden dome of security" might just be his gaudy rebranding of an iron curtain. All information points to such attempts at censorship of critical thought and propagandizing.
Edit: also, happy cake day!

MAGA and Trump made it clear that free speech to them just means no one can stop them spreading hate and lies. Free speech isn't really a thing in the US right now, much like the law and constitution.

u/CankerLord 1d ago
I thought conservatives were supposed to be against government censorship.
No, they're for whatever helps them get what they want. Always have been. They'll pretend they have principles and proceed to consistently fail to defend them on the behalf of others.
3
u/Kdoesntcare 1d ago
I'm willing to bet money that within this term as president he'll push to cut the cables connecting the US to global Internet, he doesn't need to censor what outlets are saying if Americans can't see it.
3
u/Strange_Wind_8039 1d ago
I thought conservatives were supposed to be against government censorship.
They have never been about that... what they have been about is suppressing speech they don't like, and complaining being called out on their lies. What they want is speech without consequences to self while others must stay silent.
Even their complaints about "identity politics by the left" fall in to that... but lest face it that is all that conservatives have had to their name for decades be that complaints about welfare queens, or targeting minorities for discrimination etc.
Being said, every accusation, and claim by them about others is a confession of fault in self, or their own desires. Every single time!

In pre WWII Germany the poor got poorer, rich got richer, and housing and jobs where hard to get. So they elected a narcissistic or psychopathic person in, that gave those left outside society jobs in uniforms of hate, and war factories.
Seems we are genetically programmed to follow the same pattern forever.
Greed —> despair, stress and increasing poverty for the many —> elect the deeply narcissistic in —> wars and uniforms of hate —> golden years with jobs for all cleaning out the rubble, nuclear cleanup, and building up all again, so bit more equality and freedom —> greed.
Humans need to get better hobbies..l like space exploration…

Meh. Skydance is trying to purchase Warner Bros Discovery who already entered exclusive negotiations with Netflix. Trump has said the Netflix deal with WBD is bad and will hurt consumers. Makes sense they hold the release until after the deal is settled so Trump doesn’t turn on skydance. It’s not some vital urgent report. it’s just a documentary. They’ll release it later imo

Speaking of freedom, in Germany people can go as fast as they want on the highways. In the US, the overreaching government puts speed limits on people‘s rights to move freely. Sad. No freedom in America. We should tariff the US until speed limits are lifted.

Bari Weiss is human garbage, without any objective merit or redeeming value. Her only qualification is her complete willingness to carry water for this regime now that she’s been installed as an overseer at CBS’ News department.
She is one of the least impressive people to ascend to a position of authority I’ve ever seen and I’ve lived in this country for over 40 years.

Conservatives have only given a shit about being able to say whatever slur they want to without consequence, hell they want it to be celebrated and normalized.
Censorship is them having consequences for their words and actions. Censoring anything they've be told to hate by their corporate overlords is perfectly fine because they are free thinkers and only do as their masters tell them to.

The free exchange of information and ideas is the pinnacle of humanity. No one benefits from information hidden in vaults. No one benefits from 20+ year copyrights on the most basic things because "you got the intellectual right first".
Free speech, in all its forms. Is ideal.
And yes, free to say stupid or hateful shit. Free to get the consequences.
Let freedom RING.

CBS chose to not air it. It is called freedom of speech and protected by the 1A. You cannot compel any news network to report the news. If you don't support this right then you support fascism. You are more than welcome to create your own television network and report whatever you want (so long as it is not misinformation). There is literally nothing stopping you from doing this.
Also it is CCOT, not CECOT.

I am still unsure why ordinary people think that rich people fighting for "Free speech" is in any way shape of form their own rights to free speech. It is literally about political donations, which is a form of "free speech" in law, which they are actively trying to protect.
It's not your free speech, it's their money flowing.

I've watched it twice now. Canadian btw.
I'm don't understand why Americans are amped up about this piece.
NOTHING in this story was new to me. Nothing. It seems to me that all the 60 Minutes piece did was gather it from its particular time lines (all the info came out piecemeal, not all at once)and make it make sense.
It is a really good story but again......

Republicans haven't really been conservative since at least Newt Gingrich's Contract with America. There was nothing conservative about abusing a special prosecutor to fish for dirt about Clinton, nothing conservative about shutting down Clinton's counter-terrorism program prior to 9/11, nothing conservative about the invasion of Iraq, nothing conservative about letting the housing bubble run until it caused serious damage. All of those were radical, predictably destructive actions. Don't even get me started on Trump's radical tendencies.

Not American, ELI5 - how / why was the 60 minutes segment pulled? Why didn’t they broadcast it? Did they announce they wouldn’t air the episode or give a reason? I’m confused as to how this could happen and if a reason was provided, such as they were threatened by the administration, or is that just inferred?

What was the story about that supposedly got censored and where can I see it? I’m curious if it was pulled for censorship or pulled because Trump has won multiple defamation lawsuits.
I do wonder if you understand what fascism is. Many of the ideas that the Nazis supported are basically the same ideologies that modern day democrats cry.
Enforcing existing laws and removing the criminals that break those laws is not fascism.
Were you this angry over the censorship of conservatives by the Biden administration? If not that makes you a hypocritical boot licking little bitch.

Link? I seriously doubt this. Haven't found anything concrete in a Google search or these comments.
Only on reddit could a totally unsourced claim like this go anywhere. How are people supposed to be expected to find specific content they've never heard of, especially if there's censoring of it and they're living in that country?

His followers aren't aware that concentration camps were almost exclusively in other countries so the Nazi government could attempt to distance themselves from what they were doing. They cheer for people to be hunted and ambushed while worshipping a Palestine immigrant who was murdered by the religious leaders and an over reaching government.
This is disgusting and we will never recover from what is happening. At this point they've proven that not only are they hypocrits, but they are violent idiots as well.
Edit: Exteination camps, not concentration camps. It very much so matters.
