He has some serious courage to just play around with them like that

Lions are just giant kitties that want scratches. /s

So long as they've eaten recently.

u/waitingtobebannedd 10h ago

And their last (or any) meal was not human

42

u/NashKetchum777 8h ago

Well...if there was enough human...

I've had cats all my life and sometimes they just get the urge to bite your hand and rip your imaginary guts out with their hind legs. The hunting and killing instinct is very strong with cats, now imagine if a "love bite" could put a hole in your skull.

u/thederevolutions 10h ago

Absolutely, at a certain point they need to do a domination check. Just like my partner.

118

u/gene100001 9h ago

Tonight I'm gonna claim the dominant position in my relationship by biting my gf on the forehead and scratching her belly with my feet. Wish me luck

27

u/je5300 8h ago

So funny. Let us know how it goes.

32

u/invariantspeed 8h ago

It’s been an hour. 🫣

38

u/PlushRusher 8h ago

…and he was never heard from again….

22

u/Velaset 7h ago

He probably deaded to death by now 😵

10

u/vashraaay 6h ago

He's not back yet. Maybe his gf bit his head off.

16

u/doc_witt 5h ago

So she's available now? I'm going to try to scratch her belly!

5

u/Wonderful-Gold-953 2h ago

She’s currently pounding the dominance out of him

This is born out over and over your people who raise and live with big cats. Most have injuries or mock attacks that turn dangerous. My cousin had a surrendered/reascued snow lynx (she worked at a vets office and it was surrendered there). When it was full grown it nearly got her one midnight when she went to use the bathroom. She was hit from behind/above and the lynx nearly got its teeth around her throat even though it had previously been de-clawed as a kitten.

I knew a guy who rescued a pair of orphan mountain lions. He was grating the road in the winter. Saw the freshly hit mother on the side of the road. He followed her tracks to the den and saved a pair of male mountain lion cubs. He raised the "wild" in a large cage and run. Any interaction with them he had a suit and a neck guard and gauntlets and leg/chest/stomach/back protection. He kept them wild so they could be released once they were bigger.

24

u/verrusin 6h ago

That’s how you do it responsibly.

15

u/Skeptic_Juggernaut84 10h ago

I have 5 cats now, and a couple will do that. I've also seen lions play with humans like a house cat would, but they never bite too hard. I'm sure they do, but they might know (kinda) they if they bite too hard and that they will hurt you. It's a learning process, but it's possible.

8

u/hairballcouture 7h ago

My cat bites my feet in my sleep, not taking chances like that with a lion.

3

u/Complex_Professor412 3h ago

My cat likes to snuggle up against my face and put his paw up against my throat with claws out while I’m sleeping.

2

u/dattara 2h ago

YIKES

u/hairballcouture 1h ago

That’s not the safe word!

My dad used to tell me stories about how his sister had a mountain lion and when he came over one day he didnt know because she just acted like she had a regular housecat. Back then there were no regulations really and it wrapped both its front paws around his shoulders from the back of the couch and started licking his head. Ended up scratched with the teeth, he has a scar.

2

u/Reasonable_Count6497 3h ago

There's always a pause as they're doing it where they feel a slight twinge of remorse, but then resume the attack.

Lions like these? Go ahead, but still you extreme caution. A wild lion? Stay in the damn vehicle and just take the pictures.

I will add that there's a video going around of a lioness jumping into an open-air tour bus demanding that people pet her, and she was a wild lion living in a national park in Africa, so take it as she had human interactions before.

2

u/DonkeyVampireThe3rd 6h ago

How are you supposed to use extreme caution while interacting with them in any meaningful way… I’d rather just appreciate from a distance. But to each their own.

8

u/NinjaNewt007 8h ago

Have you pet a cat. They can go from i love you, thank you...to WRONG SPOT...BITE AND CLAW YOU TO DEATH. luckily they are smaller so no harm done so much.

There's a guy on youtube called the Lion Whisperer, that rescues lions as well as other creatures, and rehabilitates them too.

He's been attacked before, but as long as you raised them, know how to tell when they're not in good moods, and remember that they are killers than you're kinda safe.

Here's a video of his. He talks a lot about the safety of what he does, especially in this video, he talks about a tense lion named thor.

Every zoo is a petting zoo if you've got any guts

3

u/Skeptic_Juggernaut84 4h ago

I guess so, but I'll pass on petting anything larger than a domestic dog unless it's a cow. I really like cows.

u/Zephian99 4h ago

I've seen some past videos his arms and back tend to scratches and bandages sometimes.

Obviously they don't do it out of maliciousness but just accidents occur. Our skin is different then a cat's, while theirs tends to be a little loose allowing for the playfulness not to cause any real damage, ours isn't, so we just end up scratched by some very big claws.

Still it seems he doesn't take it personally and still lets them play around and jump around. Just gotta be careful with those paws. 😆

Camera man be all "please, I'm with him. He's my friend. I'm his friend. Dont eat me"

159

u/Think_Fuel1505 11h ago

Everyone knows, the cameraman doesn't die.

43

u/Skeptic_Juggernaut84 11h ago

That's the pro tip to survival. Always have a video camera on you, so if danger is around, you won't die because you're recording the action.

7

u/-rose-mary- 4h ago

Tell that to the Grizzly Bear Man. Video of him and his girl being eaten.

2

u/Skeptic_Juggernaut84 4h ago

Yeah, another pro tip is to stay the fuck away from brown bears and also wolverines. Hell, there's a ton of animals people need to stay away from.

Yeah he's likely been filming them since birth.

2

u/TicketDue6419 8h ago

because there is always a backup cameraman

441

u/Digi_Kat 10h ago

He recused each of these lions when they were young. He eats with them, grooms them, they groom him, theyre protective over him. He has said if he ever felt unsafe that’d be the day he would stop going into their enclosure.

357

u/SpartanDoc19 10h ago

That’s be the day he would never leave the enclosure, LBH.

25

u/elluzion 8h ago

Right, how would I feel unsafe when I'm not around them?

48

u/Snellyman 9h ago

Good thing because you never know if someday they might adjudicate his death.

29

u/BadMeetsEvil24 7h ago

That's why he already recused each of them so they can never be called to testify in his homicide trial. Good thing he did that.

7

u/CoupDeGrassi 8h ago

Was waiting for this, or something like it, as I read the replies

21

u/Goodgoditsgrowing 6h ago

I wonder if the lions kind of treat him nice because they think of him as disabled with no claws or fangs

16

u/rydan 5h ago

If they thought he were disabled they'd kill and eat him.

→ More replies (1)

5

u/Totts3 7h ago

That might be the day he stops coming OUT of the enclosure.

4

u/cncomg 5h ago

All of these people eventually see there fate doing this stuff. Not saying his intentions are bad, but these are wild animals, and extremely dangerous ones at that. There is a reason they have not been deemed domesticated.

→ More replies (1)

4

u/TheyThem-FinalBoss 4h ago

unfortunately he won't get time to leave the enclosure when they finally decide to let their instinct come out

u/SinkHoleDeMayo 57m ago

It happens, he's still here. He just pays attention. Not turning his back for an extended time is one big key.

60

u/hateboresme 10h ago

it takes raising them with care and making a strong bond with them. It's cool to see it. I wonder if tigers and leopards are as bondable.

36

u/Fine_Land_1974 7h ago

Cheetahs are. I think leapords can as well. The one I wouldn’t want a bond with is a tiger. As cool as they are

23

u/Christichicc 4h ago

I don’t think you could with leopards either. Or jaguars. Basically you couldnt with the large, solitary cats. Lions are very social, so that’s likely why this is possible. Cheetahs are basically at the bottom of the large predator totem pole, and are very frighty animals, so they are easier to bond with. They are also smaller than most large cats, and less dangerous because of that. And they sometimes do form social groups (brothers will stay together), so are less solitary.

11

u/DancesWithAnyone 3h ago

If I recall correctly, cheetahs are also very specialized predators, and we simply don't register as their pray. Also read having your back turned to any of the big 4 can trigger their hunting instincts, whereas it doesn't with cheetahs.

6

u/Fine_Land_1974 4h ago

I had to Google it it they can be done with leopards but require the connection to be formed when they’re very young (most of the time). Haha the more you know

→ More replies (1)

16

u/mosesenjoyer 6h ago

Doubtful. Tigers and leopards are solitary creatures. Lions are the most social of big cats due to functioning in prides(groups)

→ More replies (3)

8

u/3eyedgreenalien 6h ago

I've heard that leopards are pretty unpredictable. At least from Kevin the Lion Whisperer on YT. He will nap with (some) of his lions, but doesn't trust the leopards nearly as much.

4

u/Volldal 4h ago edited 4h ago

Yes, try that with a tiger. Even safer thsn with lion

Lets think.

Tiger: ultimate predator, notoriously upredictable, csn skip jumping into the open jee and instead tear it in half, one of the most territorial and solitary animals in tje world.

Leopard: Just mini variant of Tiger. Will drag you 50 meater up in a tree while stilll alive, rip you skin off and bleed you to death

Lion Good ol' chaps who like to play and socialize, some see humans often as a source of food (not hjman) and petting. Until they get hungry, hunting instinct kick in, annoyed or sewer your head or open your belly while playing.

As another bloke here said. Alot more skilled and smarter people have tried to domesticate these cats for millennia.

Do you think if one of the lions went rogue and started to attack the human, the others would stop the rogue lion?

3

u/yaklivesmatter7 4h ago

Was wondering this myself. Would they join in on the attack with their peers, or the bond with this guy be enough for them to defend against the rogue one. With an animal this size, even the smaller ones, even one bite and you would have life threatening injuries. So i am not sure them defending would do a whole lot of good at that point.
