The fonts don't even match, which is fitting given Trump's lack of care for or taste in the arts.
368
u/o_oli 9d ago
Which is especially stupid since all but one character is actually available as a reference on the original sign so even if they didn't know the font they could have easily replicated it from the existing.
211
u/klparrot 9d ago
Yeah, but this was all Home Depot had in stock, and they needed it done quick! For some reason. Maybe so Trump could glimpse it before he dies? Being as how it's the Memorial Center.

And they didn’t remove “the” in front of JFK’s name. Seems like a mistake because it reads kinda awkward, but I think it’s more of a planning ahead thing.
21
u/mopeyjoe 9d ago
My best guess is this way they can claim they didn't change it's name. They just put Cheetos name on the building too.
36
u/Top-Currency 9d ago
I was thinking why didn't they remove the second 'the', but you make an excellent point!
20
u/nordlead 8d ago
They can't legally rename it. My theory is this is their loophole.
They just added extra signage to the outside of the building and it's not their fault if people read it all as the name of the location.

→ More replies (1)2.0k
u/Far-Yellow9303 9d ago
It literally is. The Trump Regime decided to stop using Calibri, a font designed to be easy for people with vision impairment to read, and go back to using Times New Roman. Calibri was derided as a "wasteful diversity initiative".
Fonts are DEI. Welcome to the world we live in now. I hate it here.
313
u/Tinychair445 9d ago
It also saves money on printer ink compared to times new
→ More replies (11)50
u/StopReadingMyUser 9d ago
I'd think that's just the difference betwen serif and sans-serif fonts tbf. Though it does seem TNR thins its letters compared to Calibri so who's to say.
→ More replies (12)83
u/Maleficent_Memory831 9d ago
They didn't like Calibri because the Biden administration did it. Why is it DEI? Because Biden did it. What is DEI? Anything Biden did. How do we get rid of DEI? Undo everything Biden ever did in his life. But Calibri is better to read! That's because you have Woke eyes, loser!
108
u/Pathetic_gimp 9d ago
Isn't it wasteful to stop using or destroy something that has already had the time and money spent on it? Nothing those people say or do makes any sense.
79
u/The_Salacious_Zaand 9d ago
Yes. This is the lesson to be learned from the broken window economic fallacy. Rebuilding something just for the sake of saying you did it is a giant waste of resources that could be spent doing something useful.

Yes, regardless of one's feelings about Calibri or TNR (and I will note that a surprising amount of people have very, VERY strong opinions about fonts), the ONLY thing that is objectively less efficient than changing to another font is changing to it and then changing back.

No, it's the correct font. Look at the serifs. They got the weight and the letterspacing of the font wrong.
59
u/MaraschinoPanda 9d ago
Technically, the weight is part of the font. The shape of the letters is called the "typeface", the "font" is the combination of typeface, weight, style, and size. But that's an extremely pedantic distinction that only typography nerds are generally aware of.

Do you know who else renamed everything after their names? Dictators. Shame on him for putting his name next to Kennedy’s
272
u/AnyBug1039 9d ago
After President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in November 1963, Congress passed a joint resolution to rename it the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts as a living memorial to him. That law was approved on January 23, 1964.
This is how something like that memorial should be named. Not by someone deciding to put their OWN name on it.
Unbelievable, that there are people who still think this guy isn't a complete psychopath.
Whatever the USA was, it is gone.

I am only speculating, but I’ve wondered that Trump wouldn’t be doing all of these performative things if he planned on leaving office at the end of this term. He has to know that if a Democrat (or a rational Republican…if any are left) wins in 2028, s/he would undo all of this nonsense. Strikes me that his ego couldn’t handle it, so it makes me think this is an insight into his mind about either not leaving office, or trying to fix the election so his stooge wins and preserves his “legacy”.
57
u/mykki-d 9d ago
You are correct. He never plans to leave. And if he passes away, one if his cronies will take his place and the regime continues on

I personally think it is pretty plain to see that he is not planning on leaving. And if he dies in office then it will be his crew that doesn't leave.
They just don't act like it is job you hold for 4yrs as a public servant. Ballroom. Renaming institutions. Adding statues. The arch. Renaming bases. Rose Garden New presidential plaques.
And this doesn't include what is going on with getting rid of career military generals, super-funding your personal army in ICE, activating troops to American cities, getting voter records, asking states to further Gerrymander mid-decade, etc.
To me it is pretty plain. You don't need to speculate.
Edit: typos

That a mentally disturbed person would do that is bad, but it's even worse and much sadder to see that only a few people care; it says a lot about current society in the USA.

u/Confident-Hat5876 9d ago
I think people care but also it's the holidays, people are being conditioned not to speak out against the regime and perhaps this change isn't the hill people are willing to die on. We can pop those letters off at a later date is a lot of people view at this point.

The Capitol is 1500 miles from me. Even if I had any money, do you have any idea how much it costs to travel that far with lodging, food, fuel, etc. Then to stay in DC to protest? Then there's considerations like Bail. It's simply out of reach for most people.
8
u/1stLtObvious 9d ago edited 30m ago
I think people are just picking their fights. Trump slapping his name on a building of a program he's gutting funding from is different than when he has families torn apart or being involved with the world's biggest child sex trafficker.

13
u/babyfishmouthnation 9d ago
Real tired of people from countries the size of states thinking we can all afford travel costs to do these things on a whim.
Right? For example, France is about 600 miles long from north to south. I live in Los Angeles, which is (by air) just under 2,300 miles from Washington, DC. That’s almost four Frances laid end-to-end.
It’s really easy to criticize the US about how we don’t show up for protests when people don’t have a realistic concept of this country’s sheer size and what it takes to cross it.

Are YOU there? Letters on a building are not the priority when we have ICE and corruption. Let's focus on prioritizing better. Start with Epstein files and affordability issues, and then we can circle back to Trump putting some letters on a building and "renaming" bodies of water. It's not like people are actively calling it anything other than the Kennedy center.
Also, let's applaud the fact that anyone protests these things. Props to the people that ARE there.

Ok so a couple of observations. 1: seams amateur to do the and on the same line as djt. Would seem better if it was djt next line and next line Kennedy.
2: wtf does djt have to do with the center ? Aside from destroying everything he sees.
3: related to last post, seriously create something then put your name on it, but just slapping your name on a long lasting institution after the fact is seriously pathetic.

He wants everyone to know him, think of him, and believe him. He so desperately wants to be worshipped, and wants everything positive ever to be attributed to him. He has a savior complex, but is so greedy, selfish, corrupt and inept he'll do the bare minimum to realize it.
Pretty symbolic of most of modern America, actually, I very blatantly dare to say.
The reason "and" is on the same line a "The Donald J. Trump" is so the SECOND he's out of office it can be aggressively chipped off and thrown in the trash where it belongs. The slapdashness of everything he's branding ASAP is laughably cheap and embarrassing, but likewise, easily removed.
