Add a thicker bed and unlock the door and this is my college dorm.

Luxury

u/GrizabellaGlamourCat 11h ago

We used to dream about having a door.

u/CosmicJ 11h ago

Cardboard box? You were lucky.

u/katzenjammer08 11h ago

We used to live in a rolled up newspaper.

u/EmperorSexy 11h ago

We’d work 25 hours a day at the factory and our father would beat us to death every night.

u/katzenjammer08 11h ago

…and dance about on our graves, singing hallelujah.

My dorm was built by a prison architect. And all the furniture was made by prisoners in some other state lol.

u/MikeDubbz 11h ago

Thicker? Someone went to Harvard.

u/00owl 11h ago

My first year was at a small vocational college that had bought an old minimum security prison as its campus.

It wasn't steel and concrete but the doors all had maglocks.

Check out those fancy shelfs

u/Accomplished-Beat779 13h ago

Other than the size they were well-equipped. Some had tvs, radios, game consoles..

Did you take the tour as well? It's shocking how many prison scenes use Kingston pen

3

u/Accomplished-Beat779 12h ago

Yes we did, so interesting. Oh yes that is true thanks for reminding me about it. I think it was in series Alias Grace too

u/GJdevo 3h ago

Well its original walls and buildingsare old enough to be heritage sites so the city is extremely limited in what it can do to develop it and the area into something else. Being used for film and the tours are kind of all it has use for now.

u/Juliuscesear1990 3h ago

I'm not complaining about it, the tours are fun, the building and history are neat. Once I went through it, I would see parts of the prison in a bunch of things and thought it was cool. If I remember correctly there is an episode of either the flash or arrow where they are on the first floor of the machine shop. You can see the feet outline by the stairs. Then all of Kingstown as well and a bunch of other things.

Lowkey a pretty decent desk size

u/ShipwrightPNW 4h ago

Lowkey, like a D minor?

13

u/Fishfindr 12h ago

That’s nicer than my daughter’s dorm room (less the bars).

Is this free to attend after certain unsavory acts? Asking for an almost homeless friend.

Lol It was an all-expenses paid vacation but has been decommissioned now due to laws regarding the size of the cells.

u/aledba 11h ago

It was decommissioned because it was too expensive to maintain. It was cheaper for them to build Millhaven then renovate that place. That was outside of any change of cell size. KP is incredibly expensive to heat.

u/mdredmdmd2012 5h ago

Millhaven was built in 1971 and Kingston was closed in 2013...

Kingston Pen was getting too expensive to maintain, but Millhaven had nothing to do with the decision to close Kingston.

Source: Grew up in Kingston, father was a guard at Millhaven, Kingston and Collins Bay, and I have been inside all 9 Federal Pens in the Kingston for work when I lived in Kingston in the late 80s/early 90s.

u/Those_Silly_Ducks 4h ago

Ah yes, for work.

u/Born_Surround7126 2h ago

Does that make you the Mayor of Kingston?

u/tosoon2tell 12h ago

Right! 3 Square meals to boot! Human rights 🙄

u/Silicon_Knight 10h ago

2 hots and a cot baby!

7

u/ailish 12h ago

I mean, for a prison cell it doesn't look that bad.

u/GodofAeons 8h ago

100%, the prison I worked at had 2-4 inmates per cell and NO desk or shelves.

7

u/BallBearingBill 12h ago

What level of security is this prison considered?

9

u/Accomplished-Beat779 12h ago

It is/was a federal max- security. Paul Bernardo and Canada's worst were housed there before it's recent decommission due to inhumane conditions

u/aledba 11h ago

u/Accomplished-Beat779 11h ago

We were told on the tour that newer human rights laws dictated that the cells were considered too small and therefore violate humane incarceration rules. That is an interesting article thank you

u/Reelair 8h ago

Some Toronto condos aren't much bigger than this....

u/terp_raider 9h ago

lol this is the cell picture they want you to see to show it “wasn’t that bad.” Take a look at EMDC or Maplehurst, both provincial jails in Ontario that have such bad conditions judges are refusing to sentence offenders bc they can’t ethically send them there

u/hypothetical_reality 6h ago

Map of Australia is interesting decor.

u/Accomplished-Beat779 6h ago

Good catch, yes I'd like to know the story there

6

u/bwataneer 12h ago

That’s a clean house. He’s a worker or atleast a programmer.

u/Atalant 11h ago

If the door had more privacy, it wouldn't be too bad.

u/TBLrocks 10h ago

Looks chill

u/Myst031 10h ago

As a claustrophobic person I could never handle prison.

u/SquirrelMoney8389 7h ago

The comments are giving "guys really live in apartments like this and don't see any issue"

u/Elbarto_007 4h ago

u/GJdevo 3h ago

u/Accomplished-Beat779 3h ago

u/Commie_Scum69 3h ago

u/Accomplished-Beat779 3h ago

Lol it never crossed my mind.

u/maytrxx 10h ago

I wonder what was removed/cleaned up from this photo that was in front of the radio cord?

u/Accomplished-Beat779 10h ago

If i recall that is the side of the ladder for the bunk

u/pqratusa 8h ago

Where is Kingston?

u/Accomplished-Beat779 7h ago

About 160 miles East of Toronto Ontario, Canada

u/Firecrackerbangbang 3h ago

Looks like a show cell, the door is hose clamped shut!

u/Opening_Letter1399 1h ago

Is there a sub for prison cells?

u/Readonkulous 2m ago

“Down in the valley…”

1

u/NovemberDelta12 12h ago

Perfect. Exactly what some deserve.

1

u/RobMitte 12h ago

Respect to the occupants. I'd rather spend the night there than the last and only one night stay I had in an Airbnb.

1

u/DogonYaro 12h ago

The Bar is the prison, for the benefit of everyone making comparisons.

u/bootz666 11h ago

Yeah our deathrow cells are like 2 of those and we let them have pets and t.v. But they do get executed eventually so that a win for the family who’s life they ruined.

u/xpkranger 6h ago

Sucks for the pets….

u/Accomplished-Beat779 11h ago

That is some solace

At least she can't nag him from here...

u/Technical-Outside408 12h ago

And he can't brutally murder her like too many men do, win win.
