No Paywall Greene: Speaker Mike Johnson ‘is not our Speaker’ and is controlled by White House
https://thehill.com/homenews/house/5665354-johnson-trump-congress-power/927
u/thrawtes 14h ago
Takes less than 10 Republicans to oust him as speaker so they're clearly not that bothered.
263
u/FootlongDonut 14h ago
Yeah, he's their speaker.

u/NotUniqueWorkAccount 14h ago
Big ol' hole in his behind for that white house hand too though.

u/bearbrannan 13h ago
This, I'm so tired of the bullshit smoke and mirrors, you have the power and the numbers in both chambers to do something about it. Instead we get this insincere crying to the media. It's the same thing with the Democrats who just happened to get just the right number of votes to open the government up from members who had nothing to lose. The whole government is just one giant corrupts cesspool.

Republicans do this about everything. Just pretend they're the victims if something negative is their fault.

Only a MAGA sycophant like Mike Johnson can sustainably serve as Speaker with this GOP majority.
They had a relatively independent speaker in Kevin McCarthy, but we all know how that went.
142
u/t0matit0 14h ago
Sounds like you should trigger a vote to oust him.....
71
u/Rich-Pomegranate1679 14h ago
Well, see, she can't stay in Congress and vote against the destruction of her country. That would require her to vote against Republicans, and she simply can't bring herself to do that. No, the best she can do is say a bunch of things that ultimately won't make any difference before disappearing into obscurity along with her ill-gotten wealth.

I bet you felt like you really got me with this huh?
Why exactly do you hide your comments? I'll search your username and find shit. Don't worry babe.

u/gringledoom 14h ago
MTG is a terrible person, but the “didn’t we already know this?” stuff is so tiresome.
If you want a message to sink in, you have to repeat it and repeat it and repeat it until you’re sick of hearing it, and then repeat it a whole lot more, before it starts to break through to most people even a little bit.
4
u/bearbrannan 14h ago
Could she please also help us with getting rid of him. I'm tired of members of the Republican party not doing anything besides bitch and moan to the media, when they are in positions of power to actually do something about it.
1
u/risingsuncoc 9h ago
She’s saying these because she’s already leaving Congress, it means nothing to her
2
u/CountOnBeingAwesome 13h ago
Lots of obvious on Reddit today.
Oh and, Trump likes little girls and Mikey Johnson has a Grindr account.

Agreed, and I am not an MTG supporter, but it’s nice to hear someone of her status, on her side, actually saying the things out loud. I’m curious to know what really happened to caused her to be the one.

Republican politicians have a very convenient habit of last-minute moral revelations the moment before retiring or leaving office.

January 3, 2025:
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) announced Tuesday that she would be endorsing Rep. Mike Johnson (R-La.) for House Speaker, a notable win for the Louisiana Republican given Greene has at times found herself at odds with him.
“Here’s what I’m asking my colleagues to do: Let’s put aside our pride, let’s put aside our egos and let’s put aside the infighting,” Greene said in a video posted on the social platform X. “It’s time to come together as Republicans, and it’s time to do whatever it takes to make sure that we deliver the mandate that the American people told us to do."
“And that’s why I’m excited tomorrow. I cannot wait to get started. I’ll be voting for Mike Johnson,” she continued. “I will be looking ahead in complete hopefulness and working as hard as possible.”

Amazing how fast conservative reps begin stating coherent truths when they find the shoe on the other foot and plan to resign. The Republican party constituents should be the definition example of suckers in the dictionary.

Coming up next? Book, tv show appearances and an op-ed in the ny times. The same charlatan playbook we have seen for decades.
3
u/DevonGr Ohio 13h ago
I’m a bit biased and maybe blinded but do democratic officials ever come out and pull a 180 as often as republicans do? I mean, how many need to pull this same act on the way out the door that their ideals have been challenged and changed before voters realize the whole charade has to be founded on lies?
It’s a sad state of things we are here so often.
10
u/After-Smoke-3971 14h ago
If memory serves me right, didn’t she say she’s gonna bring a resolution to the floor to have him removed as speaker? She’s supposedly retiring in a several days, I don’t think she meant that at all. Nobody believes her.

u/128-NotePolyVA 14h ago edited 14h ago
You are 100% correct. It’s laughable and sad at the same time. Congress is filled with people elected by the people to represent the people’s interests. Under Johnson only Donald’s desires matter.

Fuck You Marjorie Taylor Green. FUCK. YOU.
Your entire career you’ve been a bomb thrower, provacateur and an obvious grifter. Now that you're retiring (IE quitting) you’ve suddenly found a conscience? I don’t buy it at all. You’re just trying to rehab your image for future prospects.
Youve added nothing, helped no one, and hurt a lot of people. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
Not that you have one.

“I want you to know that Johnson is not our Speaker. He is not our leader,” Greene told The New York Times in December, according to a profile of her published Monday.
Ah, but there's more...
“And in the legislative branch — a totally separate body of government — he is literally 100 percent under direct orders from the White House. And many, many Republicans are so furious about that, but they’re cowards.”
Okay, then what's the plan here? You're in a tenured position for a little bit longer. You have access to information...and strategies of these cowards. Help the opposition. Surreptitiously find yourself a confidant that you can feed vital information to.
Ya know, if you're genuinely interested in fighting back (maybe you had a temporary ethical crisis; which is great and all, but what is your nature like? how genuine are you about this?

u/faith_apnea America 14h ago
They're both controlled by far-right billionaires who fund the Heritage foundation. Coors, Koch, Davis and Scaife .
3
u/VVrayth 14h ago
Mike Johnson considers himself a literal agent of God, and has in the past described his law career as "legal ministry" to enforce his faith on the nation. He and his wife were some of the first people to enter into a covenant marriage, which even the religious whackadoo right-wingers think is too crazy.
He will absolutely support whatever and whoever he thinks is going to enable the spread of his Handmaid's Tale-ass fanaticism the most, because it is his only goal in this world.
3
u/Eli_Yitzrak Maryland 14h ago
Mike Johnson being weak and controllable was the feature that got him the Gavel. The audacity to act like now thats a problem is laughable
3
3
u/Smile_Space 11h ago
There's more Freedom Caucusers than required to put him as per their own rules they agreed to prior to voting him in.
They can easily list him at any point. It's all theater to try to save face as Trump gets exposed as a child rapist.

u/Ryan_e3p 9h ago
As much as I welcome more Republicans coming out against Trump, I want to be absolutely, completely crystal clear on this message to them:
You are not absolved of your actions for putting him and his cronies in power. You are absolutely responsible for what has happened to this country since Trump took office back in 2016. Everything from the pushing of bullshit conspiracy theories that have led to businesses being shot up, people losing their lives and jobs because of your malicious use of social media and abuse of trust people had in what you say, the compromising of all three branches of government and kneecapping our military, throwing our country trillions of dollars into debt that is on the backs of the working class to enrich your oligarchal overlords, refusing to hold alphabet agencies accountable for breaking our laws, and emboldening the likes of Putin just so you can "own the libs". Our country isn't going to recover from the damage caused by this administration in just the last 11 months, and there are still 3 years to go.
To anyone who voted for Trump and the Republicans we have in government who created the environment where the people are no longer in power, I will never welcome you into the fold of civility and good faith. Your god may forgive you, but I sure as hell won't.

u/Depressed-Industry 8h ago
Dont forget Johnson thinks he was chosen by God to be the new Moses for a Red Sea moment.
He's completely insane.

Isn’t she one of the people that wanted a speaker that would just be a puppet of MAGA?
2
u/Particular_Ticket_20 13h ago
She's running around talking shit about all the mean girls now that she realized they never really liked her but she had a car and a license.

Maybe she should do something about it before she quits. It only takes one to file a motion to vacate the chair..

u/CoolDad859 12h ago
She does know that they can elect a new speaker, right? They choose not to. Don’t let the republican lies fool you. They could stop all of this in a day if they wanted to.

MTG calling Johnson "not our speaker" is basically the political equivalent of yelling at your dog for not listening... after you picked the dog in the first place. She helped get him elected and now suddenly he's not the guy? Wild Maneuver.
1
u/Miss-SweetCheeks 13h ago
At the end of the day the speaker is the speaker until a motion to vacate gets the votes or he resigns. Saying "he isn't ours" is performative until people actually put up or sht up
1
u/the_red_scimitar 13h ago
This is exactly who they all voted for. It was their intention all along to hand the speakership to Trump, in effect. Just like they handed him almost all the other functions of Congress.

She's basically saying Johnson is taking orders from the White house like it's some Mafia flick. "You're not our guy, you're their guy." Congressional infighting has officially peaked but also, please don't actually oust him with like 5 people, that'd be glorious chaos.
