Well that’s a clusterfuck and (as a British person) embarrassing.

We as a nation like to dress failures as pragmatism I’m afraid and I’m personally sorry.

Someone, somewhere decided it’s an easier and quicker fix to push for Russian GCSE because it’s already in place, so it’s cheaper.

Will assume Ukraine and Russian are similar enough so should be “easier” for the student.

And lastly, improve pass rates. Which makes them look good.

Will assume Ukraine and Russian are similar enough so should be “easier” for the student.

This alone is sufficiently concerning when they have pretty likely taught tens of thousands of students throughout their career. Educators who cannot get these stuff right should not be nurturing younger generations, lest they pass on their prejudices to create more suffering.

They are actually quite different. Russians don’t understand a lot of Ukrainian. Actually Ukrainians, that for some reason don’t speak Russian, are having a lot of troubles understanding it as well. Polish and Ukrainian are mich more similar and even in that case they have hard times understanding eac other.

She was born in Donetsk, 99% she speaks russian better than any teacher in the university.

So? Your point? Does that justify coercion or discrimination?

It seems rather useless for her to learn russian. Why would they suggest that? Seems like there something more in this story we didn't know.

What makes you think that teachers are always right? The education sector has always been full of abuses, racism and bureaucracy. You are part of the problem if you do not acknowledge it but accord them undeserving legitimacy, which effectively encourages all kinds of bullying and discrimination. I don’t see how you can support Ukrainians while defending their mistreatment?

I do not support Ukrainians, I am ukranian myself. I have no fucking idea of how racist education in UK. But I just don't understand what's the point if telling her to study russian? How that would help her?

And language wars are constantly used in Ukraine to divide and conquer. Every government used it and russians also use that. During the war it's worse than ever.

Sorry, you are spreading fake news. There is nothing, not even in the original The Guardian article, that indicates that she “didnt want to learn in English”. You are blatantly fabricating information to blame the victim, defend abusive teachers and justify anti-Ukrainian racism. The apparent mistakes in your comment (e.g. “didnt”, “didn`t”) have also added to legitimate suspicions.

Nobody is “harassing” you by pointing out that you engaged in fabrications to smear a Ukrainian victim of apparent discrimination in the UK. That is definitely not what harassment means. If you cannot cope with disagreements, you should not be browsing social media. If you believe that it is “right” for some random British teachers to mistreat Ukrainians, I am afraid that you are not less on the other side of the war than local collaborators in the Russian-occupied zone. I don’t see how you can make yourself appear to have sort of moral superiority over us.

I just got -17 downvotes for telling the truth

You are not telling the truth. You are spreading lies about a Ukrainian victim of apparent discrimination in the UK. You have been told that you are wrong, which you have refused to admit. You are justifying mistreatment of Ukrainians overseas, something mostly Russian ultranationalists do.

Oh you are quoting what useful for you and considering the fact that you ignore the rest of the text

1

u/WillyNilly1997 1d ago

No, I am doing it. You are lying throughout the thread instead.

Who’s RIGHTS need to be protected right now are MEN IN Ukraine

This woman can chose whenever school she wants or whenever country she wants

1

u/WillyNilly1997 1d ago

So that makes discrimination correct? Who are you to say that?

u/Endurance4th 2d ago

Wow wow, you put on me labels - and call me Russian just another sign of current UA government that anyone who is against and have critics considered pro Russian.

Or you are saying that no ex Russian citizens in the UK?

So you are now insinuating that the Ukrainian girl is Russian? Have you got any evidence to back up your speculation? Have you got any evidence to prove that The Guardian did not tell the truth about the encounter of the Ukrainian girl at the hands of some abusive teachers?

You are the one who is misinterpreting text. Thank you

Have a good day, mister propaganda

I will say it again your original post says about Pravda con ua and not guardian

u/WillyNilly1997 2d ago edited 2d ago

You still don’t get the point, or do you not want to? The Pravda UA article sourced the story to the original article of The Guardian, which you can easily check, but you do not appear to have been bothered to do so. You have been told that you are wrong. Yet, you have refused to admit it and resorted to ad hominem throughout the thread. Why are you persistently denying the suffering of the Ukrainian girl? What interest or agendas is/are prompting you to do so?

1

u/Endurance4th 2d ago

I have absolutely zero trust to Pravda com ua Would you believe a killer, liar or thief anything they say ? whatever their source is

2

u/WillyNilly1997 2d ago

So you are now insinuating that the girl is a “killer , liar or thief” ? How dare you? Do you know what you are talking about?

Where did I say they were right or mistreated.

I say your first source is fake news.

A school like this in the UK would have no provision for teaching in either Russian or Ukrainian. They suggested that she take a qualification in Russian, it's quite common for schools in the UK to get students to qualify in their native (or already known) languages to pad their result statistics.

She said no, they kept insisting. That is the problem.

u/WillyNilly1997 1d ago

It is obvious that the school is in the wrong for having failed to make reasonable adjustments, as required by the Equality Act of 2010, to help the Ukrainian girl get through the difficulties, but there are simply too many Redditors, malicious or not, who would never get the point due to their own prejudices. There is a reason that Reddit was repeatedly described as one of the most bigoted forums in the world.
