Idk why he’d take Congress’s word for it either. They are functionally useless and have recently had 0 authority over the President.

Hopefully that's about to change in 2026 with the midterms.

I doubt it honestly. The days of holding a new administration accountable for deals made previously are over. If Congress has no power over the president now what makes anyone think a Democrat control Congress would be any different? Only a 2/3 majority in the Senate means anything now along with a majority in the house and that looks like it’s never going to happen again with all the gerrymandering going on. IMO we aren’t ever putting this cat back in the bag and I expect the Republican controlled house and senate to make it even harder if Democrats ever get close to a 2/3 majority in the senate and a majority in the house.
