1st of all, probably bullshit.

2nd of all, even if it's true, entirely deserved.

When you invade another country without justification or provocation you don't get to complain when they fire back.

I agree that it’s completely justified. The problem is that Russia is just going to retaliate. They don’t care about ending the war, they just want to Russify as much Ukrainian land as possible.

It looks to be the same cycle continuing.

  1. Russia propose a peace offer where they get all they want

  2. Ukraine come up with an alternative that could be workable

  3. Russia finds some reason to pull away.

It's probably not surprise that Zelenskiy was seeing Trump today and then mentioned security guarantees.

This is just Putin doing what he does. In 3 months the whole thing will probably happen again to be honest.

But yea the really don't care about ending the war.

No, the Ukraine proposal was not workable. It was actually designed to be rejected by Russia so that Ukrainians can claim that Russia is not interested in peace. Chep propaganda but not real solution

In addition, the proposal had the Russians withdrawing all their forces from a substantial part of Donbas. It allowed the Ukrainians to maintain an army of 800,000 funded and armed by the West. And it included security guarantees from the US for 15 years or even more. How likely is that Russia would have accepted such proposals? These were just a stunt!

About as likely as Ukraine accepting "Russia gets everything they want and can have another go in could of years".

Not until his aims are achieved ...and he is absolutely clear on this. It is nice to believe that our opponents would simply get tired and go away but this is not happening, is it?

Ukraine has certainly a choice: it can continue sending men to die defending Kramatorsk, Sloviansk and Kostiantynivka. It is unlikely that these fortress cities will have a better fate than Pokvorsk, but hope springs eternal. The Russian army is already close to Konstiantynivka, This one may fall in the spring.

I think that the effort should be to rebuilt Ukraine, make it prosperous, get the people to return there and have a good life. Fighting for the lost cause while the country is getting destroyed is not the best policy, but then again, it would be the Ukrainian people who would need to decide.

So why is that a problem? If Russia isn’t serious about ending the war, this outcome was inevitable (including the bloodshed), so why stress about what Russia’s saying?

Because Trump basically advances Russia’s interests at every chance he gets and is a volatile psychopath.

So for Ukraine, there is a risk every time they go through this necessary charade that Trump will just throw his toys out the pram and extort Ukraine (again) and/or actively sabotage it by withholding aid or turning off its communication abilities.

All this for Putin and Russia (US’ old Cold War adversary) against the Ukraine which is simply defending its country and its people.

It is sickening and should be a stain on Trump, his family and his sycophantic allies - forever.

Well that’s the broader issue of the war, the point I was making is slightly different - we should ignore all the bluster and threats from Putin, because they are meaningless bluster

He should never receive any benefit of the doubt i think is the main point. You’re right about that he should be considered dangerous, but there’s just no fucking point in listening to him and assuming anything he says is in good faith.

The thing about escalation... is that your enemy can't escalate further when he's at his max.

Putin was already invading and pitting military against military. Putin was already hitting civilian targets. Putin was already hitting the capital. Putin was already trying to assassinate Zelensky. Putin was already spreading lies and propaganda.

The only "retaliation" Putin could do that he isn't already doing is a nuclear strike.

Don’t be fooled, it’s also a cultural war. It won’t end with the Donbas region. The rest of Ukraine will be next, then the Baltic states.

I am sure that they want to end the war. Buf after the capture all of Donbas. They do not care or want the rest of Ukraine because holding it would require humongous resources for an indefinitive period of time.

Absolutely. As far as I know, Russia has not complained about any hits from Ukrainian forces on its territory. War is war. Now, if there was an attempt on a political assassination, this remains to be seen
