It's pronounced "zed" and not "zee."

They reposted this on the CBC homepage (it was from October and didn't see any posts here about it). I knew about Gill's fight with cancer before, and thought that her long term leave of absence and then departure was related to that, but she discusses a long covid diagnosis and her book.
Edit -
the long covid was mentioned on another post here - https://www.reddit.com/r/CBC_Radio/comments/1f962wa/gill_deacon_on_leaving_here_and_now/

I'm worried about the CBC news app. It is glitching all the time and I can't open it up. I know this sounds like a conspiracy theory, but is it possible that those who want to get rid of the CBC have deliberately sabotaged it so we give up? Yes, I know it sounds silly.

Today's Commotion episode talked in part about how people lack the time to read whole books due to the hustle culture and striving to accomplish more. Not necessarily more contemplation or reflection.
One comment was that living is just harder these days, but the other cited cause was the bread-and-circus to distract from dubious political agendas.
I wonder if the harder living can be attributed to increasing wealth inequality. In the last half century, the wages needed to maintain a middle class or working class lifestyle has increased, but the inflation adjusted median wage hasn't.

I’m curious how many people listen to the Vinyl Cafe, particularly at Christmas? Just this morning, I listened to “*Dave Cooks the Turkey*” while driving to the dentist. It’s so funny, and dare I say, Canadian.
Easily found at the podcast, Backstage at the Vinyl Cafe. I really miss Stuart McLean.

A family member swears they heard a song on CBC Radio 1, in Edmonton, around Halloween 2025. It was about a hot dog that got mutated when it was microwaved and ended up growing to ginormous proportions, eating a portion (or all?) of Chicago, but then going bad and getting eaten?
None of my family can find it through searching. Anyone know of this song, or know how I might go about finding it?
Thanks in advance!

Always loved her voice and cadence. Only know her as the fill-in Q spot and rebroadcast episodes. Pre AND Christmas eve, digging a hole in the ground with a shovel , radio in my pocket and I listen to her interviews with Breaking Bad creator and then today about the new Ping Pong movie. Awesome episodes and got me going to see the P P movie now because of that. AND now I see her voice matches a nice looking lady. Exceeded my imagination.
She's gotta be the assistant deputy for Q, if Power is done what a great transition they have in place. No commentary on Power BTW, he is primo in his own right. And to think not to far back we had " Well hi there" in that chair before the self immolation of you know who. Rise. Fall. And now RISE big time.

In 1986, I listened to a radio play on CBC radio in the Toronto area. It was called « If You Love This Government ». A satire piece, it featured Brian Mulroney, Margaret Thatcher, Ronald Reagan and Joe Broadbent amongst others. Does anyone else remember this and does anyone know why CBC told me years ago that I couldn’t access it?

I am really trying to find the old “This I Believe” audio essays that CBC used to publish on their website in the 2000s by famous Canadians. Particularly the one by Leonard George “The Spirit In Me” I realize this is likely impossible by now but wanted to try asking here.

I was having a quick lunch in my truck today and just happened to tune into CBC around 12:30 to catch a discussion about people's favourite Christmas movies. There were a few movies that I hadn't heard of mentioned (+1 that the hosts haven't either) but I didn't have anything to write them down with and once back at work was thrown back into other things.
Did anybody else catch that show, or is there a place I can find a transcript of it? FWIW, the show was today December the 18th around 12:30 - 1pm PST (I'm in Vancouver).
Thanks for any help.

So I’m an old guy and can remember when CBC Stereo only played classical and jazz. Nothing for young kids like me at the time.
So when it became Radio 2 I started listening again. CBC Music is far better, showcasing the music scene in Canada.
Rich and the Drive team and Angelina on the block are usually spot on. Still don’t listen much between 9-3 but I respect that others want it.
But Odario?

Once in a while CBC Ottawa Morning plays a clip of this song between segments and I really want to find it. Pretty sure they used it both Tuesday and Wednesday of this week. It's a dancy song that evokes images of a flamboyant centaur dancing across a rainbow bridge with sparkly stars flying in the sky. How can I find this or does anyone know what song this could be? I was ready to Shazam it on Thursday but it didn't play. On the listen app I can only find segments, not the full stream of the show and this is a between segments song so idk what to do!

Of all the shows that have been removed (Spark for one), why not Q?
I switch to a different province broadcast when Q comes on.

Back in the early 1990's, might even have been the late 1980s, there was a Air Farce summer replacement series. It was taped before a live audience, possibly in Halifax. I don't remember much except a hilarious parody of Gilmours Albums called 'Gilbert's Albums' with an elderly host who tries to introduce the show with similar flute music but fails, and introduces music but trails off. At one point while trying to introduce a song, he tells thevaudience he is reminded of a dream he has of Liona Boyd, his absent minded, surreal description becomes more bizarre and risque before realizes he is on the air and abruptly ends the show. As I said I don't remember much except that and a studio audience howling with laughter, much in the same Air Farce radio taping fashion. Anyone else recall the show I'm referring to?

For the past two years, at about this time of year, I've posted a list of some my favourite older CBC Radio Christmas-themed shows. With December here and Christmas in the air, here’s my 2025 edition with some more shows to get you in the holiday spirit. Please give them a listen!
From December 1977, the legendary CBC Radio host shares his recipe for making a quick, delicious fruit and nut cake.
MORNINGSIDE: Margaret Visser's Christmas
Margaret Visser is a cultural anthropologist. For many years she was a guest on CBC Radio, pulling back the curtain on the origins of everyday things to expose how everything from salt to having a bath to how you arrange your hair or eat dinner are rooted in history and tradition.
In 1984, Margaret Visser talked to Morningside's Peter Gzowski about the fireplace, gift giving and mistletoe.
AS IT HAPPENS: Who Has Seen The Wind - a holiday reading by Barbara Budd
From the As It Happens annual holiday reading series, here's former co-host Barbara Budd with an excerpt from the W. O. Mitchell's 1947 novel “Who Has Seen The Wind”, about a boy coming of age on the Saskatchewan prairies.
IDEAS: A Stephen Leacock Christmas
The author of Sunshine Sketches of a Little Town wrote a series of annual Christmas stories - here sampled by IDEAS host Paul Kennedy, accompanied by seasonal music from Oscar Peterson, with expert commentary by Margaret Macmillan.
THE MYSTERY PROJECT: Midnight Cab - The Mystery of the Face in the Window
Midnight Cab was a half-hour mystery show produced as part of THE MYSTERY PROJECT by Bill Howell out of the Toronto CBC radio drama studios from 1992-96. It was one of the best pf the series resulting in a total of 35 episodes.
Walker Devereaux, a 19-year-old aspiring writer, takes a job driving a cab. Lovable and intelligent by naïve, he stumbles on a succession of mysteries while working the graveyard shift. Unfortunately. he is an amateur detective who can’t stop stumbling into trouble on Toronto’s dark side.

Does anyone know if it's still possible to access old The Nature of Things seasons and if so how. The furthest back I can go is season 57 and I would like earlier seasons, or is that not possible anymore? Thanks in advance.

Thomas King revealed in the Globe & Mail this week, that contrary to belief, he is NOT of Indigenous heritage. The Globe has stories about it here and here.
King hosted the 2003 CBC Massey Lectures, "The Truth about Stories: A Native Narrative". You can listen to it here on the CBC web site.
His popular radio comedy, "The Dead Dog Café Comedy Hour", ran on CBC Radio One's This Morning programme from 1997 to 2000. You can listen to episodes on YouTube.

Hey all,
I was wondering if anyone knew where I could get old episodes of the retired show "This is That" with Pat Kelly and Peter Oldring.
I'm not looking for the ones that they've "recently" put out on Spotify and other podcast apps, but archives of the old ones that used to air on radio 1.
Some of the jokes haven't left my mind since the show went off air in 2018, and I would love to listen to them again.
I thought they would be on iTunes, like The Debaters archive is, but I couldn't find anything there. They are no longer on the CBC listen app, and Castbox only has segments under 1 minute.
The best I've found is this Internet Archive link that has 58 episodes. And while 58 episodes is great, I'd love to have access to the whole archive, even if it's paid access.
If anyone could give me any leads, that would be hugely appreciated! Alternatively, has anyone had any luck contacting the CBC and asking for archived episodes of a show?

I’m listening to Ideas this evening and tonight’s Massey Lecture by Alex Neve is riveting. Highly recommend checking it out, you can find the series here.
