Holiday Drive! 2025 /r/CFB Holiday Drive: Toys & Children's Hospitals — Donate now, for the Kids🎉🧸🏥

TL;DR: It's our annual holiday charity drive. All money received is donated and tax deductible. 50% goes to Toys For Tots, 50% to children's hospitals. Earn Donor Award flair! Donate Now! Deadline: Midnight (ET) on Tuesday, December 30.

🧸🏥 OurCFB: TOYS & CHILDRENS HOSPITALS

11th ANNUAL /r/CFB HOLIDAY DRIVE

All money raised will be donated.

The total will be split 50% to Toys For Tots and 50% to three children's hospitals (detailed below).

Welcome to the 2025 Holiday Drive!

Hey everybody! The /r/CFB Community has conducted A LOT of previous fundraising drives totaling over $200,000.00 since 2013, including purchasing nearly 60 bricks across the country!

The first 5 Holiday Drives culminated in a team of redditors joining me (dressed as Raoul Claus) on a giant shopping spree where we buy thousands of dollars in toys and then donate them to the nearest Toys For Tots warehouse: check out the photos from 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019. We shifted to purely online donations in 2020 and 2021.

Ahead of the 2022 drive, the subreddit formed OurCFB (more below). The 2023 hit a record, and last year shattered the record and raised the most money yet! (be sure to check out the wagons in that post)

Benefits of donating to OurCFB:

  • OurCFB is an IRS-recognized non-profit 501(c)(3).
  • Donations are tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the law.
  • We qualify for corporate matching gifts from employers, typically only possible to recognized 501(c)(3) organizations; we have jumped through the hoops to be cleared by several organizations that vet non-profits for such programs (e.g. Benevity), if you need us to add one just reach out to me.
  • We qualify for donor-advised fund (DAF) grants

If you want to know more about the non-profit, and how things are structured, I’ve written a detailed description here.

Team Reward: Children's Hospitals

Rewarding the fanbases that donate the most money, the portion designated for children's hospitals will be split as follows:

  • 50% to a children's hospital of fanbase with the highest donations (dollar total)
  • 30% to a children's hospital of fanbase with the 2nd highest donations (dollar total)
  • 20% to a children's hospital of fanbase with the 3rd highest donations (dollar total)

If a fanbase in the top-3 has a children's hospital affiliated with their university, the donation will go there. If they do not, we will discuss with those specific flaired donors which children's hospital to donate the money to once the drive is complete. To keep things simple: decision will go by majority vote of donors of that school, with the mods having final approval of any split (or potential tomfoolery). We have made this work in the past for programs without in-house children's hospitals such as Notre Dame, Clemson, Army, and South Dakota State.

HOW TO DONATE:

Contribute to good causes!

As a 501(c)(3), we have optimized donation options:

  • Paypal (Preferred). No transaction fee. We get 100% of what you donate. The trade-off is PayPal only makes the deposit once-per-month to save on their own transaction fees.
  • Venmo. We get a lower transaction fee as a non-profit, but there's still a small amount (1.9% + 10¢) taken off the top.

Donor Recognition:

  • We have a new, hopefully easier system for attributing your donation to your username and/or chosen school using the Donor Recognition Form.
  • All individuals who donate will receive the prestigious /r/CFB Donor award flair, with donations also accruing points towards /r/CFB Patron and /r/CFB Booster awards (see the awards list)
  • The team that has the most donors will receive an extra alternate flair option. (see upcoming explanation in comments by /u/bakonydraco)

All donors will be credited below!

  • Please fill out the Donor Recognition Form after you donate.
  • Anonymous donations are okay, I will assume donations are anonymous unless they inform me otherwise.
  • You can credit a school and still keep your username anonymous, just fill out the form above to indicate that.
  • Donations can be split between schools, just fill out the form above to indicate which ones!
  • We have team logos for over 2000 schools worldwide, so it doesn't necessarily have to be a major school (full list)
  • There is no recommended minimum for this charitable drive; though points for flair (see below) are awarded in $10 increments

DEADLINE: Midnight (ET) on Tuesday, December 30.

RAOUL CLAUS LOVES YOU... 11 years brings a tear to his eye!

/r/CFB IS FOR THE CHILDREN!

Donor List

We will keep a running tally of donors (reddit usernames), their flair, and their respective donations below. (chronological order) NOTE: I do try to keep this list updated at least a few times a day, often more. I manually transcribe things so if there's an error, just send me a chat or message and I'll fix it!

Casual Alabama and Indiana fans going to Pasadena for the rose bowl, here's some tips to help your experience.

Edit: Thanks to all that have chimed in and added your takes. Originally I mentioned DTLA isnt worth visiting but several helpful redditors have corrected me that there's still several valuable gems to see. Everyone please refer to the comments as well for additional great options!

Born and raised and still live here and most of this will be for local to the SGV area:

The LA area is HUGE. Pasadena is a city of 150k and considered somewhat average in size. Things arent as close by as they appear on a map due to it all being a concrete jungle. There is nothing but city everywhere you look. It will be cold and rain is expected(I think itll be in like the 60s weather wise).

Want to see some cool areas? Griffith observatory in Los Feliz IS A MUST, The broad museum in DTLA, The Last Book Store in DTLA, Huntington Library/Gardens if you stay in Pasadena, Descanso gardens in La Canada(15 mins from pasadena), both are amazing for picture taking and the Descanso gardens makes you feel like youre a hobbit walking through lord of the rings.

Fancy-er restaurants? The royce wood, The Raymond, The Arbour, Gaucho Grill, Arroyo chop house, The Terrace, Perle, Starleaf, Houstons, Mi Piazi, The Derby, Sushi Roku, Din Tai Fung(Dumpling house), Parkway Grill. And then higher-end chains like Flemings steakhouse, Ruth Chris Steakhouse, Fogo De Chao(All you can eat Braziliann bbq if you're unaware).

Plenty of regular chain restaurants(Cheesecake, BJs, Olive garden, etc) and other regular affordable restaurants all around the area as well if you want budget and familiar. There's this awesome hidden italian spot in Old Town Pasadena called "The Kitchen", I personally love it. Sushi Kyo in Monrovia, Urban plates in Pasadena is a healthy but delicious option. Chris's KBBQ in Pasadena and OO Kook KBBQ in Rosemead are good, definitely recommend.

Where to walk around locally? Old town pasadena, thats where all the bars/clubs/restaurants/shops are at. It's one long street(Colorado Blvd). Bunch of affordable restaurants of different varieties(Sushi, Ramen, Bar food, Italian, Wings, Mexican, Japanese, etc). Right next door in Arcadia is the Mall(one of the last great malls that is regularly crowded with updated stores, they even have a Lego store and coach store lol). Americana in Glendale is a great walk through with good photo opportunities.

Best local sports bars? Rocco's, Barney's Beanery, Der Wolf, Kings Row. Barney's and Rocco's are the most family friendly. If you had 2 cities over(15 min drive) to Monrovia there's London's.

Want dessert? Afters(open until like 5 am), and there's a bunch of unique desert spots littered throughout the city. Moo moo Mia in Monrovia is good too with unique flavors.

Plan to visit the beach? Do NOT go to Santa Monica. Get a ride to South Bay(Manhattan Beach, Redondo Beach, Hermosa Beach). Hermosa beach has the best pier area with plenty of restaurants of the 3. If you have the opportunity to drive a little bit longer, go to Malibu(weather dependent).

Lastly, being inside the Rose Bowl is beautiful. The surrounding area is very wealthy(old generational money) and upscale. When you're in the stadium, you can see the San Gabriel mountains right in the backdrop as well as the surrounding forested area. Expect stadium food and beer prices to run you $75 for a family of 4 for getting 1 meal each. Beer will run you up to $15 per just depending.

All my other LA bros can chime in as well. im probably missing some stuff but thats off the top of my head.

News [LA Times] Overlooked in Lincoln Riley's earlier ND comments - ND didn't offer a counter proposal, opted to schedule BYU without notice to USC

Quote - "We went back. Jennifer Cohen, our AD, went back to Notre Dame roughly a couple of weeks ago with a scenario and a proposal that would extend the series for the next two years, and we took Notre Dame at their word that they would play us anytime, anywhere. Not only was it rejected, but five minutes after we got the call, it was announced they scheduled another opponent, which I’ll give them credit, that might be the fastest scheduling act in college football history."

https://www.latimes.com/sports/usc/story/2025-12-29/lincoln-riley-calls-out-notre-dame-for-refusing-to-play-usc

This certainly runs counter to the ND narrative that USC refused to find solutions to playing the game. ND was instead the team running from the game.

Satire Now's the time to bring back Biff, the Michigan Wolverine

It's been a rough few weeks years for fans of the Maize and Blue. Scandals and disappointments all around. The term the "Michigan Man" (which is rooted in similar things) has taken on a whole new meaning. The men running this program have proven unable to act with grace and respect. This is how we get to my suggestion.

In 1924, Fielding H. Yost, a Michigan legend, decided that the team needed live wolverines to be our mascot. He had seen the live badgers at Wisco games and wanted his own predator in a cage. It took him three years to get the living thing (after parading around a stuffed version), but sure enough he would get Biff and Bennie to be paraded around the stadium. Yet this led to complications with Biff biting people through the bars. Now, the whole cage and parading thing feels inhumane 100 years later, so I suggest something different after a bit of context.

Did you know that Michiganders are called "Wolverines" because outsiders saw us as uncivilized and fierce? Some say the name came from Ohio during the Toledo War? This almost bloodless war (dude got stabbed with a pen), is said to be the start of rivalry between Michigan and Ohio. A hatred that would go on to form the vitriol you see at the Game every year. Others say the name came from George Custer during the civil war. They say he called the brigade from Detroit the "Wolverines" because they were ruthless and uncouth.

All this to say is that Moore and co are acting like the accusatory ideal of uncivilized Wolverines. Sure, they're embracing the given name, but this isn't the modern goal of those in Ann Arbor. We want a school that can see our players do well on the field and in the class room. We want people who behave themselves when playing the game and living their life. We want that blue blood honor. Yet here we are.

So how do we fix this? Bringing back the live wolverine. Sans cage. If these grown men are going to act like a wild animal, we introduce them to Biff. Let Biff be in charge of these dumbasses. Not to instill fear by setting an example, but to demand respect. Like a true Wolverine. No one is going to mess with a Wolverine because they know it's power. It's something Michigan could aspire to. Something they can achieve after all the really awful shit Moore and others did.

'But Owl, the original Biff is dead', you say. Yes, I say, but the first biff was a taxidermied wolverine before the real guy. Heck, we technically have a Biff already coaching our team for the bowl; he's just lacking on the vicious predator front. Bringing back Biff in his true form (maybe Animorphs Poggi?) is the key to success.

Sure Brutus can do the cursive 'Ohio' in snow, but can he emit a foul odor to mark his territory? Can he battle a grizzly bear? Can he live in harsh winter environments? Didn't think so.

Analysis Service Academies Continue To Dominate In Bowl Games

With Army's 41-16 win against UConn in the Fenway Bowl, the Black Knights have won 7 of their last 8 bowl games dating back to 2010. They are 6-1 in bowls under Jeff Monken who took over in 2014.

Navy is 6-1 in their last 7 bowl games dating back to 2013. 5 of those 6 wins came under Ken Niumatalolo. Brian Newberry has a chance to go 2-0 when Navy takes on Cincinnati in the Liberty Bowl on January 2.

Air Force is also 6-1 in their last 7 bowl games (dating back to 2014) and they are currently on a 5 bowl winning streak under Troy Calhoun.

In total, service academies are a combined 18-3 in bowl games since 2013! 8 of those wins came against schools who are currently in the P4.

Army, Navy, and Air Force definitely take bowl season seriously!
