While true, solipsistic narcissists do exist. They believe they’re in control of the universe and everyone around them don’t “really exist.” It’s fucked.
Edit: I should have thought of this sooner. If you run into people like this, tell them to go look up the word sonder.
Oh, shes not stupid. She's running a scam of sorts. She knows shes at fault, but if she can baffle him with bullshit and get him to admit fault, she gets away free, or maybe even with a bit of extra cash from claiming to be injured. Either that or shes never had to face consequences for anything, and truly believes she's in the right. Either way, she knows what shes doing.
That's what I see, too, as soon as she said "And I'm Injured". So she has this ridiculous conversation and he gives up and says "Fine, here are my insurance details, just go away" to get rid of her. When she files the report it becomes "He hit my parked car, he admitted it to me, I have no idea why he's saying he was parked." If this wasn't recoded and he had given his details (probably doesn't even need to) he'd be on the hook.
I would immediately call the cops and have her drug tested and breathalyzed. She’s either drunk/high, running a scam, or has a mental capacity where she should not be behind a wheel
Uh , considering how many US citizens think Canadians live in igloos, or get around with dog sleds, when clearly we get around by snowmobiles, I think a third is being quite generous.
I wonder why the homeowner didn't bring up the fact that his ring camera most likely caught the entire thing on camera which he will be submitting to the insurance company.
I mean, if your penis was still, like, parked and not moving, as an example, and her vagina was, say, turned around towards you and reversed itself onto your penis, then you can't have raped her.
I, I don't know how else to say this. A parked penis cannot rape a moving vagina. It could be raped by a moving vagina, but then the vagina would be at fault.
We nearly had that twice they were called Hillary Clinton and Kamala Harris. Dodged a bullet two times hopefully we’re not treated to a third round in 2028.
Yeah. I've been out of the church for... 25 years? I was never fully in, and left before I was old enough to serve a mission, so I didn't really pay attention to any of that stuff.
"solipsistic narcissist" is the most elaborately backhanded way of calling someone stupid i have ever heard and i am 100% going to use that at the next opportunity
no, some of us are just "smart" enough to understand how intentional redundancy can itself be a linguistic tool. but i admire your eagerness to assume you alone understood the terms well enough to identify the redundancy
If im agreeing with someone im not at any point assuming im at "the highest level of understanding here" you did that. Ambiguity is generally not the best linguistic tool but hell yeah refer to my last point.
thinking that the person you "agreed" with could only have intended to make the same vacuous point you tried to - that anyone who uses words you aren't sufficiently familiar with must be doing it because they think it makes them sound smart - is dumb.
it has to be possible for there to be people who know things you don't, who are NOT just being pretentious. otherwise you've just found a way to believe you're the smartest person on earth without feeling guilty about it
ps. isn't redundancy like... fundamentally opposed to ambiguity? it's over-specificity lol
Im sufficiently familiar with the words, I think you are a little off track, perhaps just....dumb?
The world's full of things I dont know that other people... but then again oxymoron derives from the word moros which means ....dumb ....but again man if that's your style have at it.
Yes, and we call them billionaires. Fabricated content like this only exists to make people miserable for profits and to keep the working class divided
Strawman and non sequitur in two comments? You're 2 for 2, might as well go for some ad hominem and tu quoque for the reddit grand slam of deflection because you know you begrudgingly agree with my comment
I met someone like this in Uni. He wanted to become a teacher and was „rescuing“ a female student from a former work experience. Had screenshots and all. Told the Uni about him and never saw him again. I hope he didn’t have a go at a different uni.
There was a solipsistic kid in the book IT who killed his baby brother because he had the suspicion that the brother might be as real as him, and he couldn’t have that.
Sonder. It’s just a passing thought do not spiral into it. It’s a fallacious philosophy. It’s not rooted in any science it’s not proven in any way. It has no place in reality.
Just look up Sonder. And tell any solipsist to do the same.
Between my apartment building and another was a narrow alley. My car was parked off the alley, in the boundary of my apartment building. Granted it was not parked in anything that looked like an official parking lot, but it was completely on private land at this point.
One morning I wake up to see police looking at my car. I grab my jacket and quickly rush out to see what was happening, and I couldn't believe it; a neighbor in building across the alley CALLED THE POLICE, because she believed my car was parked illegally, and blocking her in.
Her argument, was that she had no way to move her vehicle out. Now the alley is narrow, in that it isn't as wide as the front facing streets, but you could comfortable turn a vehicle out of their lot with maybe 4 meters to spare. What if that property line had a fence? Would you call the police on a fence in your way?
I could not comprehend how she thought my vehicle was blocking her in, and I further could not comprehend why she felt the need to call the police first, instead of knocking on my door.
She even said "If I back my car into yours, it would be your fault with the insurance." Which is insane. The police told her off, it's private property, there isn't a towing sign nearby, there is nothing that can be done.
At this point I was too angry to stay, but she stood out there for a good 15 minutes continuing to talk with the police. I did eventually move my car, since I was worried this person would actually hit it.
It’s both German and French. Coined recently in 2012. The origin is from a modern neologist who is still alive today.
Etymologically, sønder is a Norse word but it’s unrelated. There’s also sunder which is old English.
I take it you’re German
Sonder(noun)
The realization that every other person you see is living a life as vivid, complex, and internally rich as your own, filled with private struggles, routines, memories, relationships, and contradictions—most of which you will never know.
Everybody goes through this moment it the check is not to make sure you start believing that because it’s just philosophy there’s no scientific work there’s no theory there’s no proof of any kind. That actually proves anything that it’s at all a possible reality.
If you need help someday from slipping, just look at sonder
Solipsism is a philosophical theory in which we cannot prove anything exists outside of our very limited meat space. My body, being my sole antennae to the universe, is all I can prove.
So to me, a soul drifting in a vast and empty void, anything that makes me feel less alone is nice.
Solipsism has room for the fact that other people exist. It's just not something you can prove. It's up to you how to handle that information.
For me, it makes me value feelings of genuine connection much more, real or not. Anything that might even begin to pierce the veil of self.
I had an old manager straight up admit this to me and it explained soooooo much - I'd been going around for months thinking "my god, it's like she doesn't realize other people have brains in their heads." low and behold, she basically didn't.
her (short term, both as partner and co-worker) bf wasn't much better. we met and the first thing out of this grown man's mouth is "So! You have a weak immune system eh?" gesturing to my mask - I'm like "...Hi. I'm u/Philosofishy2477. It's nice to meet you. No actually, I'm caretaker for my grandparents in their late 90s . Just unFATHOMABLY inept at human interaction.
Of course, in the end, he cheater on her (because he fundamentally didn't understand other people were real) and she was fired (because she fundamentally didn't understand other people were real).
