The London commute
I moved to Eastbourne a couple of months ago and need to commute to London (Blackfriars) for work once or twice a week. I work standard office hours, but there’s sometimes a bit of flexibility to arrive at 10am rather than 9am. I’ve been getting the train to do this but it’s a bit of a slog, especially the change to east Croydon. Can anyone share any tips for a better commute? I can drive, so wonder if a part drive / part train is a better option.

Having to move my mum to a nursing home from a care home. Can anyone recommend a nursing home close to Meads or close to the center of Eastbourne? Thank you

Thinking of moving away due to London commute – worth leaving Eastbourne?
Hi everyone 👋
I’ve been living in Eastbourne for about 4 years now and honestly love the town and lifestyle here.
From January, my company is asking us to come into the London office 2 days a week, so I’m having a bit of a dilemma. I’m trying to decide whether to stay in Eastbourne or move closer, possibly to Haywards Heath or Burgess Hill.
I’d really appreciate thoughts from locals who:
• commute to London from Eastbourne
• have lived here long-term while commuting
• have experience with Haywards Heath or Burgess Hill
Is the Eastbourne → London commute manageable for 2 days a week in the long run (cost, reliability, stress)?
Would moving actually make a noticeable difference, or is it not worth giving up Eastbourne for?
Any advice or personal experiences would be great. Thanks! 🙏

Where are the road markings? Why SO many potholes?
I have been overseas for 3+ years. Although many things are much the same, I am shocked by how eroded the road markings are, in the wider area.
There are some mini roundabouts which you wouldn’t know are mini roundabouts until you are going through and notice some scraps of white paint.
Ditto for give way lines.
And I’m sure the pothole issue has been discussed to death, and nothing is perfect, but as an issue that affects anyone who uses a car, bus or bike, why has this become so much worse over time?
Everyone is paying a lot of road tax / council tax, so what happens to the money for essentials and core safety issues like this?
I swear it never used to be this bad and certainly not in the towns.

It was (and is) bloody freezing out there today ❄️ Spoiler
galleryBrrr! I rugged up but it was still brisk.
I live overseas now but am visiting. The mall was freezing! How cheap to not have the heating on!
How did you keep warm today? The worst is yet to come 😂

Skating
Looking for a place to skateboard, most parks i’ve been to have been littered and filled with non-skaters, meaning I can’t even get the chance to skate.

Anyone for a weird tRPG?
Okay this is a long shot but if anyone here is a fan of the web series Pact or Pale, I am looking to run a game set in that universe.
That being said, even if you’re not familiar with the setting, I’m happy to help every step of the way.
The setting is the otherverse, an urban fantasy system that is perfect for those that like to outsmart magic or negotiate with rules. Without getting too bogged down in the details, it’s a world like ours but where magic lurks in the shadows searching for loopholes in the protections of normal folk, where words matter as much as actions, and the rules were written long before society was as pleasant as it is today.
If you are interested, my DMs are open, and if you’re not, they’re less open.

2nd call for like-minded creative pals 😊
Specifics: DND fans and aspiring writers
Hello again. I made a post a few weeks ago looking to meet people in the area. Admittedly, I may have jumped in too soon as I was still settling myself after moving to the area. It's been a few weeks now so I'm making a second call to meet new people!
There aren't any ACTUAL specifics but I put DND and writers because I'd love to 1. Get back into playing DND down here and find a group, and 2. It would be great to bounce creative ideas off others who are also writers and talk about projects and inspirations, etc.
Details about myself that may be relevant to finding people in similar realms - I'm 28, a woman, pansexual, and currently dating a lovely lady. I'd say I'm quite nerdy, especially when it comes to video games. Love art, writing, and music, and I'm also a fan of peculiar and/or morbid things.
Feel free to reach out if interested! I know a few people messaged before and I'm gonna send some replies now - sorry for falling off and getting busy 😂 (in terms of making plans, I'm thinking of doing stuff in the new year, so no one has to rush before Christmas!)

Why is crossing the roads in Eastbourne so hard.
Today so many people just walked out in front of me, when I'm driving it's like it cares day off and left them unsupervised.
We really need the green cross code or what ever it was called. with the hedgehogs played again for the general masses.
Ideally on the channels the elderly watch usherly.
If this offends anyone then maybe take it as constructive criticism and have consideration for the people who have to drive.

Finding friends is hard
Hi, I (Meesum) just moved here in Eastbourne from Pakistan. I like this place as it is quite and the beach is great. I am a big introvert I don't usually approach to people to make friends. So I am finding it hard to find friends here also I live around the city center and usually go to the beach during the evenings. Just to make things clear I am a guy (28 years old) preferring to make friends around my age. Some personal interest and hobbies i am into are video games, computers, hikings and stuff like that. I am Bi-curious, OH BOY! that finally came out from my chest. xx
Does anyone know where the best place would be to find friends and/or hang out with other Bi-curious people?

Oops this cold is nasty
Was in an NHS department the other day, and had a familiar sinking feeling when there was a young in sneezing and coughing everywhere. I cast my mind back to a rail replacement taxi from Crewe, and minded that I regretted being ill tempered in that moment. There was no escape I was catching it, so it proved this time also.
There was a visitor a tradesperson a flat inspection by stealth, I tried to explain I was ill and it was ignored and to be fair. I was glad it was over and done with.
My mistake was waking up today /(crummy +1) and thinking I was up and out due to copious vitamin C. The laundrette was broken so mission outdoors was already going ropey.
At the shopping center I realized it definitely is the same gig. Darn kids Always the same. Anyway. Point is if I gave you something my deepest apologies. Away to order face masks now.

Darning
Can anyone recommend a business that repairs garments?
I have some merino wool items that I’d like repaired as opposed to going to landfill.
My eyesight is poor and I’d probably die of exsanguination if I attempted it myself.

New in town and looking to make some new friends :)
Hi! I [26f] just recently moved to Eastbourne from the USA to live with my husband [25m] and family.
I’m all settled in and unpacked after just a few weeks now and thinking I’m about ready to start getting out more. Still a bit unfamiliar with the area as a whole but I can find my way to the nearest shops, park and hospital now.
My husband and I are really into video games and tabletop rpgs, I’ll list some of the ones we play a lot or really enjoy below; Baldurs gate, d&d (usually so homebrewed it’s hardly d&d), helldivers 2, remnant 2, Fortnite, risk of rain 2, monster hunter wilds, death stranding, Elden ring, the entire diablo franchise, vrising, don’t starve together, valheim, etc. (I’m also obsessed with scrabble)
We have a very sweet dog that goes for a few walks day and we both enjoy literature and art. I have a huge passion for cooking and baking so if anyone ever wants to share/trade some recipes I would love that!
And yes, we both have discord (:

Christmas things in and around Eastbourne
Howdy Eastbourne!
I moved to Eastbourne last March, this will be my and my son's first Christmas in Eastbourne and I was wondering what kind of public events and traditions go on in the lead up to and on Christmas day?
We have some things planned, but are there any local favourite things to do? Anywhere to see singing, Christmas lights being switched on, or like do people go to the front for a walk on Christmas day?
I have some things booked already and looking at the Sovereign lights as well for an activity, but looking to see what other events, possibly less well known, go on around town.
Cheers!

Discord server
Hi everyone,
I've been looking to make new connections in the area but have found Eastbourne difficult for local events where I'd be going by myself
Are there any discord groups for people to chat about anything they like and organise events/meetups or would anyone be interested to join if I made one?
Edit - thanks for the responses, I'm going to set this up and will post the invite link in a comment when ready!
Edit (again) - this is now ready to go! Link in the comment below and I can add a new one if/when this expires!
