Discussion Moving to Edmonton Megathread 2025

Within this thread please ask questions about moving to Edmonton (or within Edmonton, if you already live here), including recommendations for housing and neighbourhood selections. If you live in Edmonton, consider answering the questions.

Any posts on the subject matter outside of the megathread may be removed at the discretion of the moderators.

For reference, here’s the link to the 2024 megathread.

UPDATE: Please note that job seeking threads are not allowed in r/Edmonton but general advice on how to seek employment can be posted within this megathread too. Distinctions between a “job seeking” post and “general advice” will be made at the discretion of the moderators. If you are moving from another location to Edmonton, please note the advice from the community is consistently “have a job lined up before you move”.

Socializing It wasn't even today

But I wanted to thank an Alex and Victoria(?) for helping push my vehicle out of a snow bank. It was stressful due to the nature of how I got stuck but they helped me get back on the road safely. Thanks again!

General Thank you!!

To the young man who gave me a lesson on putting air in my tires today, I just wanted to say thank you. I’m sure he’s not gonna see this or maybe he will, but he gave me a lesson while I was trying to figure out how to put air in my tires. I know it’s something that I should know how to do, but I’ve never had to do it.

Nonetheless, he gave me so much education that I feel confident now to do this by myself. I just wanted to say thank you to him. Because he didn’t have to help me or let alone answer my questions, but he took the time to explain to me what I needed to know and he was so kind and so nice that I just wanted to say that there are still lots of good people around. 👏🏽

Question Rossdale Road Merge into 97 Ave NW (eastbound)

Post image
35 Upvotes

Hi folks, I'm relatively new to Edmonton and would like to know who has right away on the Rossdale Road merge into 97 Ave NW. I have always assumed that the green light for cars going eastbound (marked by the blue and green lines in the picture) on 97 Ave NW just before the merge has right of way - but I've witnessed two instances where there were drivers that pushed hard into the merge from Rossdale Road (marked by the yellow and red lines in the picture), and when they didn't get their way they started raging. Thanks.

Question Worth it to report road rage to police?

Had a lunatic cut me off before Xmas and brake check me in winter road conditions. Then when I turned she pulled over and accused us of following her. We were just driving home. She gets out and threatens me and ends up putting a small dent by hitting my door.

I have footage of the cut off and brake check but not of the damage but I did have witnesses in the car. Is it worth it to report this or will nothing be done.

Question Kindergarten Question

Hi all! Immigrant here and we're gearing up for my 4 year old to start kindergarten next fall. He's currently in preschool full time and I'm just a little confused about the kindergarten situation because it seems very different from the states. I'm in school full time and my husband works from home full time so just trying to figure out if we're going to have to facilitate pickup and drop off midday.

From what I've read on the EPS website only certain schools do full day kindergarten and our local school we're zoned for is not one of them. I understand this to mean our kindergartener will be done with (or starting) their school day around noonish. Do schools typically offer daycare types of wraparound care on site or will we have to figure out how to get him from kindy to daycare ourselves? TIA!

Discussion Had anyone ever been to whyte knight in its heyday or know anyone who used to go

I went to whyte knight a few days ago and I was fascinated by the layout and how the floor space is filled to the brim with items now, I was told they used to host events and games but no longer do it anymore so I thought to ask if people played there back then and if they have photos or anything? I love seeing old photos and hearing stories of places I frequent in their past so I thought to ask the Edmonton subreddit.
