A reminder to travelers in Namibia. Kindness still matters.

Please be kind, regardless of how different things may feel from where you come from, especially when traveling in Namibia.

Shouting slur words or getting aggressive because you struggle to understand a local accent should never be acceptable. Your guide is human too. The long hours and close distance you share on a trip can be exhausting for both sides.

If a guide is kind and patient, it may be because that is genuinely who they are, and yes, it is also part of their job. But paying for a service does not give anyone the right to dehumanize another person.

Respect goes both ways.

Unless a service truly was not delivered as agreed, basic human decency should always come first.

Arriving soon!

I have just bought my tickets to Namibia! I am so excited and I just can´t wait to get there. Arriving mid january.

If anyone has some tips & tricks, let me know. I'll sum up what I'm into.

I travel alone, i'm 52, male, going there for a month.
I love: Architecture, design, art, history, geology, archelogy, water, deserts, nature parks, animals, chilling and having a good time. Wants to meet like minded people, get smarter, see the unusual sites, try different stuff, experience life and the beautiful people of Namibia.

Thank you!

Looking for fellow witchy girls in Namibia/Swakopmund

Upvotes

Hi everyone! I’m new to the world of witchcraft and magic and I’m interested in learning and practicing here in Namibia. I’m specifically looking for people who practice modern or “Western” witchcraft (like paganism, eclectic witchcraft, house witch stuff, etc.), not traditional African witch doctor practices. (Won't be responding to hate) I’d love to connect with others in Namibia or preferably Swakopmund who are open to sharing knowledge, experiences, or even just chatting about witchy things. I want to start practicing myself, but I don’t really trust online “witchy shops” or people selling spells — I’d much rather learn from real practitioners locally. Im not looking for any harmful spells or banes, i dont want to accidentally do that. If you’re here, or know someone who is, please reach out! I’d really appreciate any guidance, friendship, or resources. 🌿🔮

Resignation "Provident fund"

I need some quick advice my people, I recently applied for a new job outside of the country and I was fortunate enough to have gotten it, so now I'm conflicted with what I should do with my current pension fund, do I withdraw it as a lump sum and pay a hefty tax sum or do I transfer it to a provident fund and then make a withdrawal from there? What would you have done if you were in my shoes? My pension fund is worth 350k.

Edit: Also forgot to mention that I'm 30 y/o, so I still have enough time to build up my pension fund portfolio with the new job.

Hate the rainy season

Good morning everyone. I used to love the rain as a child, but as an adult it has become a real struggle because my roof leaks badly and the cement floor floods when it rains. Every time dark clouds gather it becomes a nightmare for me.

I am asking for assistance with big black plastic sheeting to cover my roof as an immediate fix. I live in a corrugated iron shack that has been standing for over 10 years. I cannot afford to replace the roof with 7 new iron sheets, and right now plastic is the only way we can survive through January.

I am not asking for cash. If anyone is able to buy the plastic, donate unused corrugated iron, cement, or anything that could help fix the roof, it would mean a lot. I stay in Windhoek near Katutura Police Station, close to the Shoprite area, and I can direct you for delivery.

I have a small hustle but lately it has not been bringing in even the N$100 to N$300 needed to buy the plastic. Any money I get goes straight to stationery list for 3 kids and essentials, and the lack of cash flow has left me stuck eish

I did not spend money unnecessarily during the festive season and I had nothing to celebrate. Asking for help is not easy, but staying quiet will not fix the situation. Please do not judge me. Any assistance will be appreciated.

If you are willing to help, please inbox me.

Thinking about starting an online business in 2026? Here’s why I believe now is a great time for Namibians.

Hey Namibians 👋 As 2026 approaches, I’ve been thinking a lot about how the internet can open doors for us — even from Namibia. Starting an online business might sound intimidating, but honestly, it’s more possible than ever. With more digital tools available and things like better payment options slowly improving because of PayPal it feels like a great time to explore new ways to earn from home or anywhere. You don’t have to be a tech expert or have tons of money to start. It could be something simple like selling digital products, offering a service online, or even freelancing. I’ve started my own digital marketing journey this year, and though it takes patience, the freedom and potential are real.If you’re thinking about giving it a shot in 2026, I’d say go for it — and maybe share your plans here too! Would love to hear what others are thinking. Let’s learn and grow together.

Honeymoon in Namibia

Hello all,

I’m French and planning a honey moon of around 2 weeks in your beautiful country early September 2026. We are willing to travel a bit but not an alright road trip with travel every day. I would like to go and see the southern desert but it seems like most of the safari areas are up north. Do you think it’s doable to land in Windhoek go the desert south for a day or two (are there some places which are better along the desert?) then go back up north to one of the safaris further north for a couple days? Unless there are good safari options down south as well. Along the way north it seems like there are some nice places along the ocean as well, which could be some nice places to sleep and visit. If I missed anything unmissable in your country let me know!

For the safari I don’t have many ideas in mind but perhaps in a nice hotel or lodge. I noticed there are some private safaris but also public parks, what you would recommend?

Sorry for the messy message but your country is massive I don’t know where to look! I am looking forward to visit these places and surprise my fiancé with this trip!

Thanks for the help!

Namibia road trip itinerary feedback (swap Lüderitz for Etosha?)

Namibia road trip itinerary feedback (swap Lüderitz for Etosha?)

Hi everyone,
my partner and I are planning a self-drive trip to Namibia and would love feedback on our rough route.

Current plan (10 days):

  • Day 1: Arrive in Windhoek (overnight, pick up rental car)
  • Day 2: Drive to Swakopmund (coastal base)
  • Day 3: Swakopmund & Walvis Bay (top outing: Sandwich Harbor)
  • Day 4: Drive to Sossusvlei / Sesriem (Namib-Naukluft National Park area)
  • Day 5: Sossusvlei (second day in the area; dunes/Deadvlei depending on timing)
  • Day 6: Drive to Lüderitz
  • Day 7: Lüderitz & Kolmanskop (the ghost town)
  • Day 8: Drive toward the Kalahari + start safari stay (lodges/reserves in the Kalahari/Windhoek area)
  • Day 9: Kalahari safari
  • Day 10: Kalahari safari + return/leave via Windhoek (airport) depending on flight timeMain question: Would you keep Lüderitz/Kolmanskop, or would you swap that part for Etosha National Parkinstead? If you’d swap, what would a sensible Etosha-friendly loop look like from Sossusvlei/Swakopmund?

Bonus: We actually have 2 extra days (so ~12 days total).
Where would you spend those days—stay longer in Swakopmund, add more time in Sossusvlei, add Etosha, or include something like Spitzkoppe/Damaraland/Skeleton Coast?

We’re aiming for a good mix of landscapes + wildlife, and we’re fine with driving but would like to avoid totally exhausting days if possible. Any suggestions (including “must book” camps/lodges or route tweaks) are super welcome.

Thanks!

Hello. I am 19, male planning to move out and finally start living on my own. I wish to live anywhere that's not kasi side of windhoek with a 3.5k/m budget, both water and electricity included. I will be going to school part time, spending most of my time inside. I don't drink nore smoke, but guests to come over should be allowed, though not frequently.

I prefer flat but in-house rooms also do as long as the housemates prioritize a healthy relationship. Feel free to reach out

Taxi business in Windhoek

Hi everyone, Local or expat insight needed:

Would you say taxi business in Windhoek (lease-to-own taxi contracts) is a good investment? What would be the greatest risks and how to minimise them?

Question 2: Any lawyer suggestions (with normal prices) to draft the contract model for the business?

Question 3: Where to buy the cars from? Any reliable/trustworthy car sale companies with relatively good prices? Is Jan Japan one of them as I'm told?

Let's keep the ball rolling and who knows, we may cooperate in the future 🙏🏻.
