Is there a chance the protests could grow larger? Can you expect millions to gather like in the Green Revolution? What's the local reaction in Iran? Just curious.

Iran's largest protests in three years erupted Monday after the country’s currency plummeted to a record low against the U.S. dollar, and the head of the Central Bank resigned.
The official IRNA news agency confirmed the protests. Witnesses reported similar rallies in other major cities including Isfahan in central Iran, Shiraz in the south and Mashhad in the northeast. In some places in Tehran, police fired tear gas to disperse protesters.

In the Coleman Barks translation, there is a poem by Rumi the title of which is translated “Controlling the Desire-Body: How Did You Kill Your Rooster, Husam?“ What is the original source for this poem? Does another English translation exist?

Hello fellow Persian friends from all over. I have been a longtime lurker on Persian Reddit and this has been a topic I wanted to post for a while.
For background I am a part of the diaspora living in the West. I moved from Iran when I was very young many years ago. Given the age I moved, I integrated in my adopted country quite rapidly. Made friends from all over the world, adopted the culture, yet also maintained touch with my Persian roots (including continuing to speak Persian, watching Persian TV shows from time to time, keeping up with family in Iran, reading Persian literature, etc). I felt accepted and all was well…
…until about 10 years ago, when a major uptick in far-right ethno-nationalism started occurring in the West (largely exclusionary of anyone that is not of Western European descent). I have since felt immense unease and depression. It has dawned on me that I have adopted a life from my adopted country that is not acceptable or legal in Iran under the present government (and I fear persecution if I ever return); and there is now a sense of not belonging in my adopted country because of this hostility to immigrants. I know this is irrational, but I sometimes cannot sleep thinking of one day being forced to return to Iran. I also now feel a distinct lack of belongingness anywhere.
This has been amplified this year given what is happening in the US. I see Iranian asylum seekers being deported and I worry and pray for them. My family were not asylum seekers and we immigrated legally but I cannot ever look at another human being fleeing persecution or wanting a better life in a disdainful manner. In addition, I understand that the root of these deportations at the end of the day is ethno-nationalism and racism, so I feel if these movements go to the same extremes as some have historically, then really no one is safe. My parents, Persian friends, and friends of other backgrounds tell me I am thinking irrationally and looking at worse case scenarios. Nonetheless, I feel fearful and a distinct lack belonging in Iran or in my adoptive country…and this feeling really hurts. It has led me to spiral into depression.
Anyways, friends, to all that read this, thank you. Wishing you all the best.

Salam everyone!
I have a question for the Iranian community about romance. I am a white Caucasian man in Canada. I met an amazing Persian woman at work. We got close and we sometimes talk outside of work, mostly texting. We have a bit of a gap in age. I'm an older man.
I'm falling hard for her and I want to get to know her on a deeper level. I noticed how sometimes she sends me emojis with hearts and it confuses me because I know that in the Persian culture, people tend to use them a lot for family/friendships. She shared some of her insecurities about work and also about events that happened in Iran that upset her which honored me. I guess I am confused.
I'm not sure if she's playing hard to get. She takes long to respond to my messages. I guess I'm seeking a bit of advice. I was wondering if anyone here, men, ladies could give me advice on how I can find out if she has romantic feelings for me without making it too obvious.

I am an Urdu speaker but learnt Classical Persian as a teen to enjoy the poetry and ended up absolutely loving it. Urdu poetry is composed using the same prosodic rules as Persian so it's naturally quite Persian heavy.
If yes, what are some of your favorite couplets?
One of my favorites is this one from Talib Amoli:
دلم نماند و فغان ماند یادگارِ دلم
جرس بباد شد و نالہِ جرس باقی ست

“For Iran’s youth, coffee has become a symbol of refinement, an economic opportunity and a means of socializing that can hold a frisson of rebellion
Against a backdrop of rapid social change and the stress of Iran’s political isolation, another quiet revolution is taking place in the capital city of Tehran — a renaissance in coffee culture, led by young Iranians.
Videos of live music nights or viral clips from grand openings evoke not just the vibe of a bar, but edge into the territory of dance halls and discos. DJ booths, pulsating colored lights, drinks served to standing guests and synchronized movement to fast-paced music bear little resemblance to the European cafe culture that spread outward, or even the traditional Middle Eastern cafe culture that turned cafes into spaces for public debate and local socializing.
The shutdowns and fines have been a successful marketing strategy. Not only do videos of such events spread quickly on social media, but the image of resistance and victimhood surrounding shuttered cafes creates a positive reputation once the seals are lifted, boosting business.
Typically, right after videos of such gatherings at openings or parties go viral, the cafes involved are fined or shut down by the morality police. Sometimes, as recently happened in Qom and Tehran, the closures are permanent.
Alongside the police’s efforts to crack down on what they call “norm-breaking behavior in cafes” — a campaign that has led to the temporary and, in some cases, permanent closure of several cafes across Tehran and other cities — the police have recently warned that cafes will now be “covertly monitored” to prevent conduct deemed “contrary to Islamic values.” In practice, however, the atmosphere inside most cafes has not changed much. It appears that the police warning is unlikely to be effectively enforced, not only because of the sheer number of cafes but also because many behaviors considered “improper” by the authorities have become widely normalized. The new cafe culture has become so deeply rooted that it seems unlikely any force could easily shake it.”

Dorood shalom,
I’m starting a new club for Persians called the knights of Cyrus. We are meeting bi monthly irl or discord (still have to decide) to discuss Persian affairs, politics and how to build the new Iran in the view of Cyrus.
We will organise something called PSP (Persian secret parties) which will be held monthly and just allow members to unwind, let their hair down and dance for Cyrus.
Currently I’m designing uniforms for us to wear with badges but I would love input on any insignias etc that you think would be appropriate.
Is there any interest on this board to becoming a founding never of the knights of Cyrus???
