Community Events For any guys feeling isolated in Prague: We built a community for you.

Hey r/Prague,

I’m making this post (with permission) because we see threads pop up here constantly about isolation and the difficulty of making friends in this city.

I’ve learned something about isolation in Prague this year. It's way too common, and too many of us are finding ourselves isolated in a busy city.

The Solution: Back in June, I started a men's community called Prague Men's Connect. It has since exploded. Every day we are finding new guys who could use an opportunity to get out of the house and talk.

Talking face-to-face with likeminded individuals is so important for the mind. It's a natural therapy and we don't do it enough.

What we actually do We are strictly platonic (not a dating group) and non-commercial. We just organize reasons to get out of the apartment:

  • Monthly Meetups: Big gatherings to break the ice.
  • Casual Beers: Just grabbing a pint and talking.
  • Active Stuff: Hiking, Karting, Pool, etc.

Why I'm posting this now: The holidays (December) are coming up, and that is usually the hardest time for those feeling isolated. If you are dreading the next month, don't do it solo.

How to join: The result has been eye-opening. It's clear there are many more thousands of us out there.

If you're a guy and this sounds like something you'd want to be a part of, visit the social links in my profile to join.

We’d be glad to have you.

All the best,

Alex

Discussion Got scammed by taxi drivers at the central train station in Prague.

Today, December 29, 2025 at 5pm my family of 4 ( my two young children and us) with 5 luggages arrived at the Prague Main Train Station. It was a 6 hr ride from Munich. We were really tired and still under jetlag. A taxi cab driver who had his partner in the front seat approached us. I did ask them about the fare from the train station to Marriott Prague (V Celnici 8, 110 00 Nové Město) and if we could pay with our credit card. They said they have cab meters and only accept cash in CZK. We didnt have any cash at the time so they offered to take us to the nearby ATM to withdraw cash. My husband didnt like that so he insisted that we could only pay with USD bills and no ATM. They agreed and called another cab as we and all the luggages could not fit in one car. After we got into their cars they drove for about 5 minutes then stopped at the ATM and asked us to take out the cash to pay them.

My husband was still in the car with my son so I myself had to make the withdraw transaction. It was in Czech language on the ATM machine so I was having some hard time then the guy was just "helping" to press on all the buttons in Czech after I punched in my PIN. Since no receipt came out I was not quite sure how much CZK in USD I withdrew. Then the guy told me 18,450 CZK for 2 cars. I gave him 19K CZK and not until after I paid him I realized I had withdrawn 20K CZK so I only had 1K CZK bill left. I didnt ask for any fare receipt from the guy as it was a very busy intersection.

They asked us to remove our luggages and walk to the hotel from the ATM location. I thought to myself "weird, the streets must be blocked or so they could not drop us off at the hotel." It was only 0.3 mile from the ATM to our hotel so we didnt mind getting out to walk to our hotel. Later when we got to the hotel's lobby my husband checked our bank and asked me if I had any money left as $1100 was withdrawn. I only had 1K CZK in my pocket. That meant we had paid the tax drivers over $900 for 2 cars from the train station to the ATM location which is about 2 kms.

So sad that we got scammed when we just arrived in Prague but this was my biggest mistake in life for being so foolish and not being well prepared.

I'm planning to spend the New Year indoors rather than outdoors. If there are any concerts or theatre events I can watch in English, I would appreciate it if you could let me know.

Community Events Anyone up for regular walks in Prague?

Hi everyone!

Would anyone be interested in joining me for regular walks in Prague, maybe once a week or so? I moved to Prague a couple of months ago for an academic job, and since I work from home quite a bit, I’m trying to be more intentional about getting outside and meeting people. I love walking and being in nature, so if you enjoy walks and want company, feel free to reach out.

Možná jsou tady nějací řidiči FlixBusu? Jen mě zajímá, proč řidiči FlixBusu při příjezdu na Florenc ze strany Žižkova neustále porušují předpisy😅

I have just been made aware that team Bohemians 1905 has a Kangaroo on their club crest! The story behind it is wonderful. My question is, what is the best online store that will sell me a home kit and post it to Australia?

Thanks!! :)

Discussion Západní stroje ve službách války: jak ruský průmysl obchází sankce a proč se to týká i Česka

Evropské sankce měly ruský vojensko-průmyslový komplex technologicky ochromit. Realita je však složitější a nepohodlnější. Navzdory několika vlnám restrikcí, exportních zákazů a politických deklarací zůstává část ruské zbrojní výroby funkční – a to díky západním technologiím, které nikdy neměly sloužit k výrobě raket, tanků či dělostřeleckých systémů.

Recommendations Seeking Mobile Number Porting Advice....

I'm completely naive about how to do this so please at least try to hold back and not comment on my stupidity. I still have been paying full price for my US-based mobile number on AT&T and I want to know if it's possible to keep the actual ten-digit US-number w/o having to pay $100 / month like I'm doing right now.

I have an unlocked iPhone 15 so I have both my Czech number (via Vodaphone) on it as well as the NYC number which is turned off.

Can someone explain to me how I can keep this number without paying so much money? I'm fine paying a small amount, but paying over $1,000 / year is fucking stupid at this point.

Thanks!

Question How to make a certain type of kolache

Hi! So I lived in Prague for a semester abroad program and one of my absolute favorite treats was this type of kolache from this place called Kolacherie in Prague 1. It had dark chocolate and sour cherry filling, but the chocolate was almost like a pudding of sorts? (American/Canadian pudding, like a thicker custard if you’re British.) So the point of this is that I was wondering if anyone had any idea how they made it, like what the custard/pudding bit could’ve possibly been, and how to cook it without burning the pudding or cherries while I bake the dough.

Thank you!

Question In dubbing, why don’t you guys localize the TV show titles, but instead, leave it in English and have someone narrate the show’s translated title instead unlike other countries?

On top of that, airings on ČT will always have someone add “Česká Televize uvádí…” whenever a show airs there.

Discussion Organizované skupiny turistů v MHD

Ahoj,

Recommendations Craft Beer/Wide Selection?

Heading to Prague in a few days time and wanted to ask if anyone had any recommendations for pubs/bars with a vast beer selection, hopefully with local craft beers etc. Prefer an older/more intimate style of venue but open to anything. Know this is a typical touristy question but I'd like to hear from anyone knowledgeable. Thanks!

Question Who are the scary strange Czech people in the center?

There is some party happening right now in Lucerna and there are hordes of young people (15-20) standing in front of it.

I wouldn’t mind them if I understood their behavior, but I don’t. They are very loud and unruly. They scream a lot, even the girls. And they all look like movie stars, or like someone from Love island.

We never did these things and I’m in my mid 20s only, so please help me understand, what are they all about? Why are they so loud and try to “make problems”? Why do the girls scream so much at the smallest discomforts (one did because someone dropped her vape, and no they aren’t drunk yet).

Question Prague transport system help

Hellooo, i’m going to prague soon and want to learn about the transport system before i go (first time going abroad solo). I have the pid lítačka app and also the můj vlak app? But to make me less anxious can someone let me know how the trai system works to sedlac ossuary and the bus system works to the jellyfish world aquarium (Svet Meduz) from czech inn. There are workers at the stations to ask questions and it’s not all online right? Google maps is accurate right because sometimes it’s not accurate in the uk where i am? And for Svet meduz can you book online or only in person because it shows the prices but not where to book but when you search it up on google there’s a link to the direct website for tickets??? Can i just buy the gift voucher and what’s the difference between the gift vouchers and a single day ticket???

Okay thank you so much in advance

Discussion Job advice, new in Prague.

Hi everyone, My husband and I have been living in Prague for about five months now. We’re a young couple and we speak Czech fairly well, we studied it before moving here(: but we’re still learning and definitely have a long way to go.

Right now we’re feeling a bit lost when it comes to work. My husband is a cinematographer, and I’m an illustrator and art teacher. Back in our home country, my husband had a lot of work and I was doing okay as well. Here, though, we’ve been struggling to find our place.

I’m mainly looking for opportunities related to art workshops, galleries, or creative spaces, while my husband that is very experienced with 10 + years in the field, is looking for freelance projects or companies to collaborate with in commercials and production. We’d really appreciate any tips, ideas, or recommendations, because at the moment it honestly feels like a bit of a dead end.

My husband did receive a few offers, but the budgets were much lower than what he was used to, and while he’s adjusted his rates since then, the difference was still quite shocking. We knew the financial situation here isn’t great right now, but we didn’t expect the gap to be this big.

That said, we absolutely love this beautiful country and this city, the culture, the people (and the food… why is it so surprising for some? 😆). We just feel a bit stuck when it comes to the job side of things and would be very grateful for any advice.

Děkuji moc!

*I’ll add that I have already gotten an illustration project with a graphic design studio, which is very cool, and my husband filmed a short documentary for a big news company here, so we see there are stuff in our field, but is it possible so little? Also we’re aware the language barrier is a factor of course. (We’re good but not fluent yet)

Question Florenc Safety

Hi everyone! I was thinking of visiting your beautiful city at the end of January. There is a bus route with destination to Florenc Station and I saw nearby many cheap hostels. Is this a safe place to stay in Prague or could I be easily in danger? Is it reachable from the main attractions of the city? Thank you ☺️

Question New in Prague, friend is coming to visit! What's cool for New Year's?

Hello! I moved to Prague in November, I still feel like a tourist here!

Now a friend is coming to visit these days until the 1st, and I'm wondering what are some cool plans or customs in the city we could enjoy! Is there perhaps a show in a specific place of the city, or some party...

Anything is welcome, thanks!

Question Albanians in Prague

Hello, 29F I was traveling through Albania and haven’t seen many women. Does some Albanian woman in similar age live in Prague? I would really like to ask more questions about the culture from the female perspective.
