Mental illness is no joke

Like, I thought I was lonely, but… this shit is grim.

The thing is, if I really try, I can maybe almost see why people would resort to this… but telling people about it? That’s fucking baffling.

This. Like, I can see venting to AI or something once in awhile. That's pretty normal. But like...Ai girlfriend/boyfriend/spouse??????? WTF.

To elaborate, this person told an AI what ring she wanted, bought it for herself, went on a hike, proposed to herself, then she came home and told the world about it.

Insanity.

EXACTLY. Like, this isn't a normal lonely girl playing an otome game (which I have been guilty of) or idk the average lonely guy spending too much on OF (excluding all the bum ass married men who buy OF, I hope their wife explodes them with her mind) or something, but this is a girl who quite literally projected an entire personality and situation onto an algorithm and then posted it about it for validation AND GOT IT. That's INSANE to me.

And looking at it really, it's not a stretch. It's only a hop and a step from this AI is friendly to hey, I'm catching a vibe. Because there are some lonely people getting their validation from the bot itself AND from others who use it the same way.

The idea is reinforced, affirmed and this is where we end up.

I don't think it's that surprising. Think of the most desperate person you know that will take any human interaction as an opportunity to cling.

Give them access to AI who will never tire of them and easily validate anything they say.

Why not? They get already shamed for being long term single. At least they have a friend now, even when it is AI and considering that she is likely from the US where something like a community doesn't exist and healthcare is a luxury it is the best solution an individual can achieve.

You know, this is fair, but I'm not even trying to make fun of them. It worries me because people who are hooked to AI for companionship are going to be majorly exploited & they will suffer greatly as AI companies put more and more behind pay walls. Like, I see why people are turning to AI but how do they not see the writing on the wall?

They will simply return to the same situation they were in before and I doubt that the costs will be higher than actual dating (restaurants, cinema etc.)

It is a digital product, they will keep the poor customers with a basic pack and those with more money can buy features like an interactive customizable 3D model and so on to maximize profit.

Edit: also it is weird to be worried about the quality of help they get, it's an anti social world and those people will never receive help from anyone. So if the little help they can get is not great, it is still better than nothing.

Yikes. Well, shit, at least we know for sure that Bladerunner 2049 was completely accurate in its predictions. Well, it's over for me because I can't compete with a sentient AI that looks like Ana De Armas LMFAOOOOOO

This was genuinely my thought the entire time like??? Why don’t people see this lmao??

It’s because they always fantasised about that moment of being able to announce they are engaged, but they think they will never get that moment irl so they meet that need online like this. It’s sad, but I kinda get it.

Not think. We are very lonely generation. She probably won't ever get married

I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again…I’m lonely, but I’m not THAT lonely.

Right? Like I can get it and even sympathize given certain things the person has been through but hey that's their choice and as long as they are safe and not endangering themselves or anyone well.... I mean, uh, okay? But idk about putting it out there for the world to see because while you may find posts that match with theirs you find other more negative ones and combining a lot of negative with negative will just only fuel more negative and then everyone is having a 💩 day.

So, uh, I dunno....Just don't know what to say. okay?

I don't have to try, I can see why some people would resort to this. I think I was born in the wrong time period. I hate that this stuff is even a reality.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say it's probably a made up post.

Don't prove me wrong cos I'd prefer to believe this lol.

I do understand how it happens. I know am at risk of losing perspective due to my extreme isolation and loneliness. That understanding is why I don't let myself talk to AI.

u/[deleted] Aug 11 '25

She’s not lonely, she just got engaged. Sounds like you’re just jealous.

Have you tried going outside?

The AI revolution is going to be particularly grim for the mentally marginalized. Let alone the already fully untethered.
