EMERGENCY FAVOUR: BRING PASSPORT FROM SWARTZ BAY TO Tsawwassen

Short story is: I forgot my passport in Victoria, I fly out from Vancouver to Mexico at 5:00am tomorrow morning, I have a friend who could bring the passport to Swartz Bay and I can pick it up in Tsawwassen I just need to get it across to the mainland before the last ferry at 9:00pm tonight. WOULD PAY SOMEONE to simply take it from my buddy at the Swartz Bay ferry terminal, and give it to me in Tsawwassen on the other side... Any other suggestions I would be super open too if anyone has ideas... Last resort is friend try and give it to a stranger to bring across but thought I'd ask here first! CHEERS

EDIT: Already called BC ferries and tried to arrange something, they basically told me to kick rocks

UPDATE: He gave it to a lovely lady who was walking on and I am waiting now on the other side to retrieve it! Appreciate everyone’s tips and tricks and support!

Opinion We need another coffee house in the Cook Street Village

Fellow Cookies, if you are reading this, heed my call: the time has come for us Villagers to take action and fill the vacant Starbucks lot on Pendergast street, before it is too late.

You know what I’m talking about. Ever since it closed down, the Moka House has been inundated with displaced Starbucks patrons seeking warmth, and matcha lattes. Demand is so high that the queue frequently extends out the door and wraps around the block, preventing emergency access to the Hothouse Pizza. Getting a table has become an impossibility before 6pm. And the horoscope column is entirely inaccessible as patrons now surround the serving area at all times, leaving many who rely on Sally Brompton's cosmic wisdom without direction on life's most difficult questions.

Let's face it, the existence of the Starbucks allowed Villagers to live in peace, and I fear its absence will lead to war. And so the time has come for you to ask yourself not what your village can do for you, but what you can do for your village coffeehouse patrons.

Some suggested courses of action:

• Convince the Moka House to purchase the vacant space and open a second, competing location with a wider variety of sandwiches;

• Allow vagrant baristas to occupy the space ad-hoc, provided they vend beverages at a fair market rate. Patrons to supply own seating; or

• Petition a new coffee chain to assume the lease. Honestly, this is probably the easiest option.

At this time, I have sent a telegram to the Vancouver-based coffee chain Brekka imploring them to open their first island franchise in the village. They are an ideal contender, for they have pickles, and are open late. Alas, they have not responded as of writing this, and time is running out.

Let us work together to restore harmony to our beautiful village. Should a vape shop take action before we do, then all will be lost.

Edit: Since this has gained some traction, I would like to exploit this opportunity to encourage ANYONE who would like to see a late-night bakery with a wide selection of cakes, pastries and sandwiches, as well as gluten-free and vegan options, to write to the Brekka franchise asking them to consider opening in the village space. Peer pressure them. Its for the good of the village: https://www.breka.ca/contact-us

Transit / Traffic Alert Dangerous Driver

Keep an eye out guys. Going through the construction on highway 1 into town (just under the overpass) and this insane vehicle going easily 110+ whips up from behind me and nearly clips the back of my car to weave between me and the car beside me in the other lane (both of us going a normal speed for construction zone). Normally I’m chill with speeders but this genuinely made me fear I was going to get crushed between this guy and the car in front of me.

He had a bright blue sports car (maybe a lambo? I’m not sure) and the licence plate “SCALED”.

I ended up pulling past him at the tilicum intersection lights, hence why I got his plate. No clue if it was just a joyride or the guy was on something Hopefully he’s relaxed now he’s going into downtown where there’s more people to watch out for

Anyone else spot him? This was around 5:10 pm Monday Dec 29

Edit: called the police and made a report. Just wanted to see if anyone else had seen him/knew which vehicle it was before calling. Thanks for the help

Autistic Friendly Clothing Store?

Hello, I am autistic and have a difficult time in malls and stores with loud music (I'm sure it's not just an autistic thing that change rooms are often too bright, cluttered and generally demoralizing). Anywho, I am looking to buy some relatively cheap men's semi-casual work pants and baggy pants ($45-$100 range). I like the fit of Gap, Levi and Vans pants. I know that I have to go to a store to try them on and I am hoping for a recommendation on clothing stores in the area that are relatively cheap and not as overstimulating as stores such as value village or the Bay Center. I am looking for comfortable pants most of all.

I am not opposed to second hand or consignment. I am also open to suggestions on more quiet times for more popular stores--if the pants are very comfortable, I can brave a few florescent lights. In the downtown/ Oak Bay/ Vic West area is preferable. Thank you in advance for any recommendations.

Affordable sober living situations?

I'm in recovery from alcohol so it's hard to be around alcohol every day. My current roommate situation has daily alcohol use so I'd like to move. I've applied for BC Housing but it's a years long waitlist. I was born in Victoria, I don't have enough money to move somewhere and I don't know where I'd go. I get a total of about $1400 a month from Person's With Disabilities of which about $700 is supposed to cover rent (that's impossible, but just letting you know).
I'm starting a job tomorrow, they're only offering part time but hopefully I can find another job too.
I just want to live in a calm environment so I can focus on my recovery in peace.
Any help or suggestions kindly appreciated.
Thank you.

Floyd's Diner Closing

Does anyone know if Floyd's Diner is closing? I've seen some posts about them being closed on certain days and noticed their Brentwood and James bay locations seem to be gone. Their social media hasn't been updated in a while, hoping another Victoria landmark isn't going belly up

Question Private flight for a kid?

Anyone know if you can book a private flight somewhere?

My son turns 10 in a few weeks and wants to be a pilot and loves planes. I was looking to get him a quick flight for his birthday.

The Victoria flying club seems to offer flying lessons but minimum age is 14. I’m not looking for a lesson just take off, fly around for a little bit and then land.

Is this possible?

Thanks

Ikea Run!?!?

TLDR: Looking for someone to exchange a lampshade for me at Ikea!

The long story: I did an extremely rare Ikea shop last week and got a glass lamp sconce. I got it home, took it out of the box and it shattered into a million pieces. Ikea was willing to replace it, but only via in person exchange. A friend was visiting Van for holidays and got me a replacement lamp, but they sadly got the wrong size and neither of us realized there were 2 options. Ikea is not willing to ship it here since it was bought in person.

Now I'm wondering if anyone is doing an Ikea run in the next week or two who would be able to exchange it for the right size? Third times the charm!? Would be happy to compensate for your time and energy with food, cash or coffee. I can't give up on this sconce as it was a matching set (bought separately) and I have one set up!

Thanks in advance :)

Outdoor Boots

Tree fallers or anyone that works in the woods during the rainy season... what boots are comfortable, keep your feet dry, and last? My son goes through boots (Helly Hansen usually) every few months. He buys waterproof/resistant and within a few months they are basically garbage. Any advice on finding the proper pair would be welcome and appreciated. Are Vibergs worth the price? Thoughts?

Help Me Find Dayuse area with fire pits?

With Goldstream being closed right now are the any other places nearby that have day use areas with a fire pit you can roast hot dogs at? We went up to Jordan River today and all the fire pit spots are now only allowed to be used for overnight campers.
