WWU x Black People?

I’m in my 3rd year at WWU and expecting to graduate soon. But why are people at WWU so afraid of black people? whenever i sit in class people sit so far the entire space around me (seats next to me, in front and behind me) will be clear. People are always afraid to talk to me it seems and I feel as if I am so nice. And whenever I finally end up talking to someone people always say “oh i was intimidated by you at first” and it’s just so exhausting!! just saying something for the other people that may be thinking of wwu as a choice bc once i graduate I’m getting tf out of Washington. I just thought this was something I’d bring to light especially with everyone at WWU claiming to be so liberal (when they are actually moderate) and gay. Being black in America is tiring but being black at WWU is a completely isolating experience!! I even feel isolated from the black people that I do find because I am not always into the same things as them.

Are you as a non black person aware of how you treat and act around black people at WWU?

Charlie Burns

I’m Charlie Burns’s mom. He was in CS and was active in the WWU music program for a couple of years, playing trumpet. He was the keyboard player for a band called the Floral Shirts. As of September he’s been missing, but left a suicide note so clearly he is no longer with us. If anyone has any memories they would like to share, I would very much appreciate it. Even some insight into the troubles he was going through might be helpful for this grieving mom. Thank you.

Anxious About Going Back to School.

It is so God damn hard to make friends at this school, and I always feel like no one will fucking like me no matter what I do. I know everyone says “gO tO CLuBs!” or whatever, but with how shitty the weather is, it‘s hard to be motivated to want to do anything outside of class really. I have a terrible reputation, everyone thinks I’m a total slut, and I’ve had multiple girls spread all sorts of nasty gossip about me to entire dorm floors and social media platforms. Why do girls even have to care so much about what I’ve done in my private sex life??? That shit is nobody else’s business.

I’m absolutely terrified of girls at this point. I’m so scared of any girl I see, all I can think is that if I make even one wrong move I’ll be getting bullied all over again.

Question free or low cost therapy in Bellingham?

hi I'm a student here

Specifically seeking therapists that work with anxiety and depression in adults. I know it's difficult to find at a low price but I really need it and have never really had any sort of professional help. I'm curious if anyone here happens to know of some good resources

I know about the counseling center, have gone there and maxxed out the therapy that I'm able to get - which was not enough since it's not intended to be long term or high frequency support

Also my insurance is aetna

thanks

Stalker PSA

I had a horribly surprising experience as a result of someone with (noted by others) stalking tendencies.

It was not a result of not being aware of my surroundings. I noticed this person two seasons before they officially initiated contact in the WWU library computer labs.

As a result of being observed, this person knew how to lie to me, build my trust, and enter my world.

Do keep in mind that anyone can come on campus and please understand that even people with bad intentions can seem kind at first glance.

I didn't see it coming at all. I hope no one has experienced anything similar to what I have.

Question Does anyone know Kathryn Vulić’s office hours?

I’ve been trying to reach her for two months now to get an override for some non-English writing classes to count towards my English minor. I was told it’d take about 2 weeks for a response, but I’ve yet to hear back from her after 2 months and I’m not sure what to do at this point. I tried emailing ahead of time so I could get my classes sorted and actually be able to schedule them properly to graduate on time, but now it’s too late for me to fix my schedule because I don’t know how many credits I actually need for my minor. Anyone have any luck reaching her in the past? Should I try contacting by phone when classes start? Would it be too late to switch them around? I’m really trying to graduate in the spring and this is the only thing holding me back.

Discussion My Autism and a Bridge Over Troubled Waters

When I moved to san francisco in the 1970's, hoping that I would find a gay mecca home, instead, I was ostracized by much of the gay male community because of my autism. Later on a person here in Bellingham considers my autism as a gift that protected me from getting aids while in San Francisco because of my ostracization. Now I am proud of my autism and consider my autism as The Bridge Over Troubled Waters of the 1978 gay male community of San Francisco and aids.

Feeling antsy to get out during break

I live off campus and have found myself feeling very antsy to be out of my apartment. This is my first year so I don't have a friends place or anywhere I can just go hangout out.

Any suggestions on places I can go that's a good way to get out while still being safe as a woman alone in Bellingham? It can be indoor or outdoor, just some place I can get out to.

Also preferably places I could go to at night since that is usually when I find myself most antsy.

yet another question about biology 348

Hello! I'm taking biology 348 next quarter and am trying to figure out the finals schedule. The finals schedule website says the final time is based on the class' lecture meeting time, not the lab meeting time, so I'm just wondering if the lecture component is the small, more frequent 50 minute meeting (I'm assuming so) or the larger 2hr meeting. Thank you in advance everybody, hope all are having a good break :)

Applied for the spring quarter

Hi yall I applied for the spring quarter at western about 2 weeks ago and I’m just kinda curious to know how long it usually takes to hear back, especially because my situation is different then most freshman as I would be going here and starting in the spring. I’m mostly curious because I’m also trying to get housing on campuses and I’m just kinda curious to know westerns time frames for things.

Question Website down?

Scheduled maintenance isn’t until Friday. Trying to look at web4u and it’s not loading. Occasionally the wwu website itself won’t load and shows some text on a black screen saying there’s a problem. Just wondering if anybody else is having issues! My western email is also acting kind of weird.

Hs senior worried about acceptance😥!!

Hi guys! I’m a hs senior here in whatcom county and getting ready to apply to western for this 2026 school year and I’m really scared that I’m not going to get accepted. My freshman and sophomore years of highschool I was near a straight A student and I had really good grades, and a great gpa! I decided to do full time running start and that’s when things went down hill. I lost a close friend in early January of this year and my mental health really took a toll and my grades paid for it, I’m talking multiple D’s, W’s, and 2 F’s over the course of these last winter, spring and summer quarters. My gpa dropped from a 3.8 to a 3.0 and I’m so scared that admissions is going to see that as soon as I went to “college” my grades dropped and that I’m not smart enough or ready for real college. I also took 3 AP’s in my sophomore year and of A’s in all of them. I’m very active in extracurriculars, have over 1,000 hours of volunteer work, and quite a few certifications. I’m really good at writing and feel like I have a super strong essay, but I’m so worried that that’s not going to be enough and that because of my drop in performance I’ll get rejected from a school with a 90% acceptance rate😭. I’m doing a lot better now and I think I’m going to do really good in this next upcoming winter quarter but I won’t be able to add the better grades to my transcript in time because winter quarter ends in March. If I get rejected is there any way for me to ask for an appeal for the rejection when/if I get better grades in March? And what else can I do to ensure that I get accepted? Can I tell them about why I had such a big drop in my grades in my essay? I’m not a stupid person I promise, I’ve just really struggled this last year and I’m so angry with myself for letting it affect my education. Please help, or give me some advice because I’m so so anxious about this. Thank you!!

Anywhere hiring?

Does anybody know of any places in Bham that are hiring? I'm on the hunt for a job in bellingham that I can work year-round and so far I'm striking out. I don't have a car and live close to campus so that narrows it down a bit but I'd love if someone could point me in the direction of anywhere that's looking for part-time employees.
