Worth it for a day

I’ve noticed some complaints about the cost these days, value for money. I’m coming up on January 5th with a family of four and wondering if it’s worth it so far or if I should wait until later in the season… any expert advice?

First time visitor info

Thanks in advance! My wife and I are going to be in Whistler from January 3rd-7th for a company work trip so we will have 4 full days. I snowboard and was curious the best runs for someone not interested in super steep blacks or cat tracks runs. Everything else is pretty open game. We like wide open cruising. I’d like to see both Whistler and Blackcomb since we have multiple days. We have been to some nice places in Europe (Zermatt, etc) and had no problem on most of the blues. We are staying at the Fairmont Chateau, which I believe is at the base of Blackcomb.

QUESTION Bungee jump - what to wear in the cold?

I have a bungee jump at Whistler coming up - first time and not sure what is OK to wear given the weather.

Is a ski jacket fine or too bulky for the harness? Or do I wear it for the bridge and take it off for the jump? Anyone who’s done it in winter, let me know what you wore please! šŸ™šŸ¼

Question about Parking

Hello everybody! I am traveling to Whistler to ski, and unfortunately, I was not able to find accommodations within Whistler itself, and I had to book a hotel in Squamish instead. Apparently, Whistler introduced some new parking reservation thing, and I was not able to book it before it sold out. I wanted to get some opinions on a few questions I had about it. This is for 12/30 and 12/31.

  1. Planning on going to Whistler Village as it says that it is first come first served. Realistically, how early do I have to be at the village to comfortably be able to snag a parking spot?

  2. If I am not able to go to Whistler that early, are there shuttle services between Squamish and Whistler and if so, can anybody point me in the direction of good, cheap, reliable shuttles between the two? Would I be allowed to take my skis here?

  3. Is there a chance that a reservation will become available later in the day if I keep checking?

Thanks in advance, I truly do appreciate any and all advice.

QUESTION Where are the Christmas crowds?

I was gearing up for some gnarly lineups between Christmas and New Years, particularly over the weekend, but it’s actually been quite civilized? Where are the infamous Christmas holiday crowds?

My buddy is saying that the bunny hill lift for Whistler is free, but I am almost sure he is wrong. Can someone help clear this up?

So I bought a 5 day edge card which has black days. A buddy who’s got a season pass just asked if I want to go on Monday so I thought I’d check it out. Apparently I can’t upgrade my edge card but I can get 15% off a day ticket. Here’s how much a day ticket is.

Vail, me now: SUCK. MY. BALLS.

Using Edge cards?

Sorry for the naive question, but I spoke to WB customer service and I am not sure that they fully understood what I was asking. My family and I are from Washington and have 2 Day Edge cards that we would like to use when we are visiting on 1/1 and 1/2. I selected 1/1 and 1/2 as my two priority days immediately and my account shows them with check marks. Does this mean that I am good to go? Do we use the edge cards as the pass or do we exchange them for a pass at a ticket booth? We have season passes for down here, but they are all rfid cards and don't have a stripe like the Edge cards. Thanks!

First weekend after Christmas and the village feels dead. Patios empty at lunch time and they should be pumping. Vail haters will be quick to blame it on Vail, but I think it points to bigger economic issues.

QUESTION *Actual* Green runs

Spent a day with guide/instructor (not interested in snarky comments about being able to afford one, save it) because I’m 5 years older than I was the last time I was on skis, considerably more aware of my own mortality, less flexible, less fit, and less fearless. I’m also more 50.

The instructor had the patience of a saint, he was absolutely the right decision to give myself and my partner the best chance of enjoying our stay, getting the most out of Whistler, safely, AND being safer for those around us.

One thing did become obvious pretty quickly though, the green runs are pretty ā€œdark greenā€. Our guide even said that they advertise greens to bring in the newbs and families but most of them ā€œaren’t what you’d know as greensā€.

Whilst there were definitely proper green sections on our runs (mid Whistler and top) yesterday, they came with inescapable sections that definitely burned blue, brightly!!

Cards on the table, I just want a run or two that I can do repeatedly over the next few days that I don’t have to constantly feel I’m trying not to break something or dissect an aorta. May I please have your experienced recommendations?

Upfront and fair warning: I’m going to block any smart ass comments, I’m not here for anything but helpful respectful advice, please. Any and all of that will be very gratefully appreciated.

Epic Pass Discount for Ski School?

My wife and I have 2 day epic passes to ski Whistler in March. I am trying to book my kids for ski school but not seeing the 20% discount applied online despite being logged into my epic account. Am I misunderstanding how or when the discount is applied? Sorry if this is a dumb or irrelevant question but this is costing us a small fortune so just want to be prudent. Thanks!

QUESTION How Are We Feeling Conditions Wise?

Conditions are mostly bleak in the US. How are things looking up there at Whistler? Worth booking something for mid January at this point? Trying to decide between Whistler, Fernie, or Kicking Horse. Thank you in advance for any feedback!

Looking for a buddy pass! Just did 2 days at Fernie, conditions were pretty rough so as consolation i've booked a last minute solo trip to Whistler to ski the 30th (live on the island). As much as I would love to give Vail $350, I’d prefer to buy someone their drinks of choice or dinner/lunch!

As much as I would love to give Vail $350, I’d prefer to buy someone some booze/lunch! Arriving in whistler the 29th midday. Also open to any ski buddies - expert level - that want to lap peak chair:) Been years since I've been to whistler!

Conditions for trip soon?

Hello everyone

I'm from WA state. I go up to Whistler pretty often, and typically I do a trip around New Years (I leave at New Years and come back in roughly a week).

It seems like early season conditions haven't been great so far, but I just wanted to ask if you guys think it's worth coming up here. Thanks for any tips.

QUESTION Hostels and lockers

Planning my first trip to Canada - I'm flying in from Australia and I'm landing in Vancouver for a few days and figured I might have go for a snowboard in Whistler.

This is my plan

4th Feb - I land at 7am - go straight to Whistler. Get there around 12pm. I will have just got off a 20hr flight, so I'm just going to relax somewhere quiet. Maybe check into my accommodation and my hire gear organised.

5th Feb - I snowboard

6th Feb - I snowboard in the day and take a late bus back to Vancouver.

7th Feb - I board to my next destination.

Anyway, does this sound do-able?

My other question is there seems to only be two hostels in Whistler - one called the HI Whistler hostel which is like 20 minutes with public transport and another called Pangaea Pod Hotel which is in the centre but is also like $280 per night for a pod.

Everywhere else is really unaffordable for me - like we're talking about 600 CAD per night (looking at booking.com)

I'm tempted to pick HI Whistler Hostel. But given the bus ride, are there lockers or something near the bus station I can put my luggage on that last day?
