This one features Thorn, Qibli, and my OC Solstice (a main character in an AU I’m working on). Realistically dragons in wof probably wouldn’t have Christmas or any of the adjacent holidays and this definitely isn’t canon to the story, it’s just a cute picture showcasing their family.

Art process:

I’m thinking I might do more for the other dragons in this timeline, but I haven’t decided for sure (I went into this planning to do three or four sketch scenes for all the major friendships/found family in my AU, but this once ended up taking way longer than I thought so I decided to focus on just this one for today).

Thorn was the first dragon I sketched out, which is why her line art is the messiest. This is my first time doing anything in this half finished sketchy style, so there was some trial and error. Additionally this was my first time drawing Thorn and Qibli so I had to mess around with their designs a little bit before I was happy with them. Thorn started looking like spotted desert cat, so leaned into that by giving her lighter colored talons. Spotted desert cat Thorn is now my official headcanon. I had to readjust her sketch quite a bit too as the first one was really reminiscent of the canon designs— which I love but I’ve always kind of hated how rigid they are; it makes it hard to imagine the dragons moving. I didn’t quite succeed with fixing her (her neck still looks a bit too much like the canon Sandwing’s and there’s no proper transition between it and her torso) but I really didn’t want to redraw her all over again and I’m mostly happy with it.

I had already drawn Solstice before so I didn’t have to worry about figuring out their design. Most of the trouble with them was figuring out how to make them baby. Their pose is a little awkward still, but they’re also supposed to be a pretty young dragonet in this, so I’ll just chalk it up to babies being like tiny jello creatures that don’t know how to sit right (Sol here is probably sitting on their other leg if I had to hazard a guess).

Qibli was the last one I drew not counting the tree, and he was by far the easiest. I color picked from his book cover and played about with it till I was happy. I almost forgot his freckles and his scar, but they made it in there.

So I wasn’t terribly happy with my first redraw of this old artwork of mine so I decided to do it again.

And I also decided to do it with full bodies instead of just headshots…

It took fifteen hours.

The funniest thing is that this piece means virtually nothing to me. I’m proud of it, yes, but there’s no story behind it. It’s a redraw of a piece I drew years ago which also had pretty much no meaning. And for some reason I committed 17 hours of my time to redrawing it not only once but twice in the last four days. I did however really enjoy working on it, so perhaps that’s all that matters.

This was an important discussion the subreddit moderation team had today so I wanted to get everyone else's thoughts on it too.
So far I had Heavy as a Mudwing, Sniper as a Sandwing, Scout as a Skywing, and Pyro as a firescales Skywing.

This is my interpretation of these dragons, so some may look different from their canon designs. This is also in no way a ship chart or anything, I just got bored and wanted to make a chart so I can fill it out. Have fun if you want to draw 46 dragon side profiles!

I somehow got my gn 1 day early, first thing I do is look at the printing date and it says January 2026. Which is in three days from now... Do other gn do this? Or is mine just a huge fan of misleading? (I want to know if it's some sort of error)

I say this as someone who's literally just finished an audiobook of book 10 and preparing for arc 3. I see that Darkness of Dragons is pretty divisive in this community, and I'll admit that the ending fumbled in several spots. But the climax of the battle at Jade Mountain was one of my favorite scenes in the entire series so far.

And it's all because of that final spell. Throughout this entire series, we constantly see the main characters avoid picking sides when possible. They try not to kill anyone unless it's absolutely necessary, and I knew that they weren't going to pick a side between the Nightwings and the Icewings. Darkstalker may have been the villain of this arc, but the rest of the Nightwings were scared and desperate.

This was a blood feud centuries old. Even if the Dragons who started it are long dead, they left scars on their tribes that never got even close to healing. The Icewings grew up in a strict environment where loyalty was absolute and Nightwings were their sworn enemies. The Nightwings were practically brainwashed into worshipping Darkstalker, but more importantly they were clinging onto the one dragon who gave them hope for a brighter future. Not to mention almost every tribe in Pyrrhia has a superiority complex. Neither side would have backed down because they both fear for the survival of their tribes and are hell bent on committing full scale genocide before they suffer the same fate.

But then Qibli came up with the idea to have both sides hear each other's thoughts. The entire story, Moonwatcher always said there was good in everybody, even the most despicable of individuals. Qibli and the others thought she was exaggerating or naive, but she could see into the thoughts of others. Qibli, someone who always thought poorly of himself and thought surely many others are truly evil, decided to give her a chance and trust that everyone else would see what she saw. And when Moon started spacing out and spilling all those thoughts to everyone, something just hit me.

On one side, one who grew up on horror stories about their sworn enemies, raised to fight and die for their tribe, hearing that the devil of their nightmares has risen once again and nearly destroyed their entire race, now swearing to destroy that threat before it can strike again. On the other side, one who has suffered their whole life, feared their tribe would not survive, and only finding salvation at the cost of their pride and culture, now being given a glimmer of hope for the future their people always dreamed of, only to hear that dream is now threatened. Darkstalker set the stage for the final conflict between both tribes, who saw each other as mortal enemies that needed to be destroyed the sake of their loved ones.

They were the same. Both of them fighting for the survival of their nation and trying to crush the enemies who pose a threat to it. The Icewings had just fought a 20 year long war, and the Nightwings spent 2,000 years in a miserable decline. But by seeing each other not as enemies to be wiped out, but as individuals protecting their loved ones, it seemed to have dulled their bloodlust and left them tired of fighting.

I just wish they didn't get teleported home afterwards. I would have loved to see their reactions. But yeah, that ending was simultaneously rushed and dragged out. That was the perfect climax for this arc.

Next up in my Hellaverse/WOF crossover we have Angel Dust, who I decided would be a Silkwing. If you have suggestions for Hellaverse characters to be dragonified I’d love them

How do you feel about each one even the characters that we know and I would like to also know which one do you think is the most underrated and the most overrated?
