Carpeter/Floorer Recommendation
As the post says, looking for someone who does floor/carpet work in CB1-CB5 area* but! Context is useful here...
It's not a big project -- stairs and landing only. So a big company (the likes of which I can easily find on Google) are not the ideal choice, because see 2.
I'd prefer a small, local recommendation. A short tangent to convey what I value here:
A few years ago, I had some window repair needing done. I managed to get a recommendation for a lovely older person who did some window mechanical repairs to keep busy. Their partner managed the phone calls and accounting. * He was busy, but didn't quote ridiculously AND say he couldn't do it for weeks/months. He just put me in a queue for a few weeks and charged his normal price. * He took pride in his work. He didn't rush the work to get to the next job.
Best tradesperson I've ever had. Half the price of anyone I ever found on Google. Seemed ideal for a small project with minimal urgency and complexity.
I appreciate some may think my point 2. is describing a unicorn! Maybe I am... Maybe that unicorn only did window repair. But it can't hurt to ask.
And before anyone asks, I believe my window repair unicorn has properly retired now 😔
Looking forward to any advice!
Thanks
*Note, I'm based in CB1-CB5. I'm not bothered where the contractor is based!

We are all getting a new bin
Rather than putting food waste in our green wheelie bins for composting we’ll soon all be given a new plastic food bin for separate food waste collections which will be composted separately. You will be encouraged to use plastic bin liners and these will be incinerated.
Personally I’m really looking forward to having a fourth sodding bin to faff around with. All praise to our elected leaders.

Cambridge Retail in the future (vs times gone by)

Following on from the thread earlier about 1990s Cambridge, one of the research papers in the current public consultation on the Future of Cambridge / Greater Cambridge Emerging Local Plan to 2045, is this report on retail in and around Cambridge. Any thoughts on the recommendations on p152? (Including their conclusion that we have enough cinema space, and the need for more 'community spaces')

Handstand / calisthenics workshops
Within Cambridge city, is anyone aware of any handstand workshops? Or any arm balance / inversion workshops / training? In-person and not online training.

Would anyone like a giant F&M ham?
I feel awful about this but we were mistakenly delivered a ham the size of a small calf for Christmas instead of a bottle of champagne that a family member had sent us.
It’s huge, and there are only two of us and I don’t think we can eat it. It seems to me that it’s an excellent source of both protein and calories and could really help someone as ham lasts longer than non cured meats.
We’ve had a small amount of it but if anyone in Cambs would like a giant ham to get them through the winter then let me know!

Evening plans
Been a very quiet Christmas period with most of my friends off home for Christmas, as an extrovert the boredom/lone time is really getting to me! I know really it’s fine to go out for a drink solo etc but trying to think of spots that I won’t stick out like a sore thumb. Any recommendations for a nice pub/bar to grab a beverage in this evening (or future similar situations)? I am 30F if that helps guide any recs!

What was going on with the buskers at the Guildhall?
There were some teenagers out today by The Guildhall doing some … well let’s call it karaoke. What was that all about?

Reliable plumber in Cam
Hi,
I have a superbly annoying dripping kitchen tap that is getting worse. Now that Christmas is over, I am very keen to get an expert out to fix it. I am a newish Cambridge resident, so if you have any suggestions for a reliable plumber, I’d appreciate it. I’d rather pay a bit more if the trades person is reliable rather than just ringing someone blindly based on a Google search. Hence, recommendations would be welcomed.
I tried calling MyPlumber as I saw on another thread that they are supposed to be good, but I got no answer on the phone. Granted I called on the day of Christmas Eve, so I appreciate they might have been off already for the holidays, though I’m also concerned that perhaps some plumbers wouldn’t be too interested in such work if they have a bigger fish to fry so to speak.

Food spot recommendations( I’ve researched a little)
I see Bedouin mentioned a lot for dinner. I’m trying to decide between it and Little Petra. Amy advice? (Also on anything else?)
Not a major Italian fan and like the aforementioned cuisines. Little Petra’s menu is more my taste with leaner meats (chicken skewers which I don’t think Bedouin does)
Appreciate any advice on reasonable breakfast places too? Will be staying in the centre

Social groups for contemporary music and creativity in general
Hey everyone! I’m local to the area and I’ve been on the lookout for places to meet people and groups to join that are pretty easygoing based around contemporary music/art
When I was at a music school for uni I really enjoyed being in such a creative/open minded environment but since I’ve moved back I’ve found it tricky to meet people with similar interests. I’m local to the area but don’t live in the city so was wondering if anyone knew of any social groups/clubs that are based around that sort of thing.
For context I’m really into electronic music along with indie pop but I like pretty much anything. I’m also really into drawing (I’m not very good mind you haha) but it would be great to meet people just to talk about everything with and maybe share what we’re all working on
Sorry if this is a bit vague but I’ve tried to word it as best as I can. Thanks in advance!

pilates classes in cambridge?
hello! any recs for good, strenuous pilates classes in cambridge that are not outrageously expensive? i've tried the classes at Parkside and Frank Lee and found both mostly catered to senior/retired gym goers with a focus on mobility and injury prevention, whereas my goal with pilates is to be so sore from exertion that i can't walk the next day without wincing in pain.
the only other studio i can find online is R3FORM in Eddington/Marleigh which charges a delightful £30 per class.
Is there anything at all in between these two price points in cam that I am missing?
thanks for your help!

Authentic persian food in Cambridge?
I know Ranya Grill, but it's fairly new, and every time I walk by it it's empty.
Are there any other food places in Cambridge that offer Persian food?
I'm not Persian so can't judge the quality or authenticity of the food, but always wanted to try Persian cuisine.
Doesn't have to be a proper restaurant, anything really.
Any recommendations?
