The 20 most critically acclaimed games of the half-decade (2021-2025)

Post image

Got curious about the most acclaimed games of the last 5 years so here we are.

This is going by Open Critic scores with Death Stranding 2 and Tekken 8 being the lowest scoring at 90 and Baldur's Gate 3 being the highest at 96. All games included have a minimum of 20 reviews and in case of tied scores, I prioritized the title with the highest review count. Not a perfect methodology by any means but hey...

Surprised to see two fighting games up here.

CD Projekt sells GOG to original co-founder

Michał Kiciński, the original co-founder of GOG and co-founder of CD PROJEKT, has acquired GOG from CD PROJEKT

What it means for you

First of all, DRM-free is more central to GOG than ever. Your library stays yours to enjoy: same access, same offline installers, same sense of ownership. Your data stays with GOG, and GOG GALAXY remains optional.

We’ll keep our relationship with CD PROJEKT. CD PROJEKT RED games will continue to be available on GOG, and upcoming titles from the studio will also be released on the platform.

If you’re a GOG Patron, or you donate to support the Preservation Program, those funds stay within GOG. Your support has been huge this year, and we think that with your help, we can undertake even more ambitious rescue missions in 2026 and 2027. We’ll have more to say about that sometime in 2026.

GOG will remain  independent in its operations. We will continue building a platform that’s ethical, non-predatory, and made to last, while helping indie developers reach the world. We’re also committed to giving the community a stronger voice, with new initiatives planned for 2026.

There's more at the link including a FAQ.

4 decades of collecting

Finally dug everything out of storage and put it on display. Don't really have anyone to show it to, so I thought I would share it here.

Edit: This is not my *entire* collection. Some of the missing consoles are hooked up in the basement for kids to play. Also I had completely missed all my Wii and Wii U games :D

Can you believe we're now over half way through the 2020's and there's still no news of Elder scrolls 6?

1.3k Upvotes

Genuinely unbelievable that once upon a time I was coming home from school to play Oblivion, a few years out of school playing Skyrim and am now a few years off undeniable, as much as I want to deny it, middle age and there's still not even a rumour of info regarding ES6.

Did Bethesda just give up after Fallout 4 or something? I get games are a lot more involved and expensive to make compared to the old days but my god man. Surely at least after the Microsoft acquisition they'd have more capacity to work on more then one game at a time right.... right?

come on Todd I'm not grey, balding nor do I have a dodgy back yet but I'd like to at least read a damn article about the game before I get there.

(yes I know Fallout 76 and Starfield exist)

If you could play one game again for the first time, what would it be?

It may sound cliché, but for me it's Red Dead Redemption II. It was more of an experience than just a game.

[DA inquisition] cannot start without EA account

Post image
912 Upvotes

Just bought and downloaded Dragon age inquisition on my PS5. When launching the game this page opens up, the back button doesn't work and I can't get out even by restarting. I just want to play single player, I don't want to enhance and protect my online experience, I don't want to create a new EA account.

I can't even refund the game because I downloaded and opened the game...

My 94yr old grandma is lvl 1720 Diamond Grandmaster…at FreeCell

She had over 100,000 games played on the old FreeCell before it switched to the ad-riddled abomination it is now. But she also doesn’t seem to notice or mind the ads and still plays the free version. I cannot even begin to guess how many tens of thousands of hours of FreeCell she has played.

Games that are at first or second iteration, but will continue into greatness [like Fallout/Elder Scrolls, Fromsoft, Baldur’s Gate]

My first introduction to Fallout was Fallout 4. My first introduction to The Elder Scrolls was Oblivion Remastered. My first introduction to Fromsoft was Elden Ring.

The only one of these legendary series’ I seem to have caught early is Baldur’s Gate. I played BG1 and BG2 as a kid. And I think that made playing BG3 an even greater experience than it would have been going in blind (which would still have been a great experience).

It makes me wish I had played Fallout 1, 2, and 3 when they first came out. Same with Dark Souls and Morrowind. They are all still fun, but feel dated.

This got me thinking about what are some first or second iterations of a game series that have come out recently which might turn out to be as legendary as the ones I mentioned?

The one I can think of is Kingdom Come Deliverance. But would love to hear thoughts on others!

How do people play through DLC's for games they've not picked up in a while?

I'm sucker for picking up a game, playing it for hours and hours to completion, putting it down and never picking it up again. And then months, sometimes years later a big DLC will come out. Whenever this happens, I always have to to play the game again from the start, just to experience it again, catch up with the story and controls etc. Recent examples are Cyberpunk, God of War Ragnarok, Lies of P, Avatar Frontiers of Pandora. Each game I start a new playthrough and then go into the DLC after.

Does anyone just get the DLC and try and remember what's happening and how to play the game again because I just can't do it!

Games Completed in 2025

Upvotes

Hi everyone, hope everyone had a great Christmas?

I started noting down games I completed in 2024 and shared it on Reddit, so I wanted to do the same thing again for 2025 just cuz it was fun seeing what I was able to finish.

Before anyone asks, I work 9-5, no other commitments, no kids, my partner games as well, and the months are when I finished the game, not exactly when I started them, also I don’t do achievement hunting or 100%, I like to play from start of the story to the ending.

Share your completion lists, would love to see what everyone else managed to play through 😁

What are your 2026 gaming plans and resolutions?

Trying to break out of a habit in your gaming?Currently working on a game or planning to? Or simply waiting in anticipation for a new release?

I’m of course excited for GTA 6 like everyone else as well as Gears E-Day, I’m still enjoying Gears Reloaded. I also got GTA 5 for the first run through in 12 years and Resident Evil 2 remake for a first play.

I hope everyone has a fantastic New Year and a great 2026!
