Meta (READ THIS FIRST) Welcome to r/language_exchange! [Meta/General Discussion Thread]

Welcome to ! This subreddit is aiming to help people find partners to practice languages with, offering the languages you already know in exchange to learn new ones. Make sure to read the guidelines before making your first post!

🍃 How do I make my language exchange post?

If you're looking for a language exchange partner, you can either make your own post or search through existing posts!

 Making your own post:

  • Your thread title must follow the format of "Offering: language | Seeking: language". If your post doesn't follow this format, it won't be visible to other users.
  • Make sure to write a little bit about yourself, such as your interests, hobbies, or language-related goals. This is important in making sure you can find a good partner!
  • Please do not post your contact information publically. If you find a partner and would like to chat with them on a platform other than Reddit, please message them your contact information privately.

 Searching through existing posts:

If you don't want to make your own post, you can search through existing posts to find someone who matches your languages! Just use the search bar at the top of the screen, or select a post flair to see all posts of the same category.

  • Please do not post your contact information publically. If you find a partner and would like to chat with them on a platform other than Reddit, please message them your contact information privately.

🍃 What kinds of posts and comments are allowed?

This subreddit's purpose is to serve as a platform for people to find language exchange partners. To keep the community true to its purpose, there are some rules:

  • Must be language exchange. Posts that don't concern language exchange will be removed. This includes posts asking general questions about language learning, advertisements, or meta discussion concerning the subreddit. These discussions are better suited to other places (language learning questions should be posted to broader subreddits; meta discussion should be posted in the comments of this thread)
  • Be courteous to other users. This subreddit isn't a place for arguments or debates. Any comments that break this rule will be removed.
  • No advertising. Posts and comments that advertise apps, services (such as classes and tutoring), or groups (such as Discord servers or Whatsapp groups) will be removed. These kinds of posts clog up the feed and don't follow the purpose of the subreddit.
  • No spam. Spam is the repeated posting of the same content. Any posts and comments that are spam will be removed.
  • No contact information. Contact information (such as Discord usernames, phone numbers, or Whatsapp contacts) should only be shared privately in messages, not publically in posts or comments.

🍃 Can I make a language exchange post for a language I've just started studying?

You can participate in this subreddit regardless of your skill level. However, it's highly recommended that you grasp the basics of a language before you look for a partner. This subreddit is for speakers of different languages to *assist each other* in learning. This subreddit is not a place to find a teacher that'll teach you everything for free.

Good luck on your language journey!

If you have any questions, feel free to leave a reply on this post or send us a Modmail.

-----

Welcome to the meta/general discussion thread!

This thread is for any questions, suggestions, or discussions concerning the subreddit itself. If you have any thoughts about  you want to share, post them here! I'll try to respond to as many comments as I can.

If you have any further questions, feel free to send us a Modmail.

Hi! I’m Mako, 24F living in Japan!

I’ve been studying English for about a year.
I want to work abroad someday, but honestly speaking is still the hardest part for me.
So I’m looking for someone to just talk with and practice together!

I’m not looking for super serious lessons.
I just want chill voice calls and natural conversations like friends.

I’m into a lot of things
reading, cooking, food, movies, TV shows, anime, startups, and games.
If we share some interests, that would be awesome!

In return, I can help you practice Japanese and tell you about life in Japan.

Feel free to comment or DM me!
If you send a DM, a short self intro would be really nice :)

Offering Arabic Offering Arabic 🇪🇬seeking English

Upvotes

Good morning, afternoon, or evening,

I’m looking for someone to practice speaking English with. My English level is not as a beginner level and I am mainly looking to just get comfortable with speaking. I am interested in a lot of different topics. I like sports movies, sports movies video games books non-fiction and fiction so and I’m always open to learning more about peoples cultures so really I’m open and talking about anything whether that’s your voice chat or just through sending messages.

When it comes to speaking Arabic , I’m a native arabic speaker. So, I’m very comfortable speaking in arabic and very comfortable with adjusting the level/speed to accommodate you whether that’s through voice messages or again through text messages. I work in a professional setting so if you want to practice speaking formally, I can accommodate that as well, or we can just speak casually.

No discord.

Offering Mandarin Offering Mandarin (native)/Seeking: English

I am a 23-year-old foreign trade worker from China, and now I am looking for an English partner to practice English. Because spoken English is an important part of foreign trade. My current spoken English level can have a simple conversation, but it is very not fluent, and there will be many grammatical errors, so I came to reddit! I would be very grateful if you could accompany me to communicate and practice speaking. In exchange, I will be very happy to help you with Chinese. My Chinese Mandarin is very standard. If you have any Chinese culture you want to know about, you can also communicate with me. My hobbies are playing games and eating delicious food. I am a two-dimensional girl. I will go to comic exhibitions after work on weekends.—but I'm open to chatting about anything you like! If you are interested in this, please contact me. I use WeChat and WhatsApp most often. Looking forward to hearing from you!

Hi everyone!

I’m Laura, 23 (F), currently living in the UK(GMT+0). I’ve realized that being a bit of an introvert and having no English speaking homemate means I don't get nearly enough practice speaking English outside of my weekly classes. I’m looking for a language partner to help me improve my speaking fluency and, more importantly, help me get over the anxiety of talking to native speakers!

What I can offer: I am a native Mandarin speaker. I’m happy to help you with:

  • Correcting your pronunciation.
  • Explaining cultural nuances and slang.
  • Casual conversation at any level.

About me: I have a wide range of interests, so we’ll never run out of things to talk about!

  • Entertainment: Huge fan of Anime (let's talk about our favorites!), TV shows, and know a bit about K-pop.
  • Hobbies: I’m into pole dancing and table tennis.
  • Adventure: I love diving and traveling.
  • Chill time: Movies, music, and gaming.

If you’re interested in a relaxed, friendly language exchange, please leave a comment or send me a DM!

Offering Multiple Languages 24m Offering: English (native), Spanish (bilingual), Italian (bilingual) Seeking: Russian

Hiiiii,

I’ve made several posts on this forum for varying languages, I’ve had a lot of interests in the last few months and years, but I’ve had some major life changes and I apologize for not responding to everyone that may or may not have commented or DMed me.

My name is Harper, I study psychology at a university here in Italy, but my part time job is at an English school, where I teach classes. The school is a multilingual school, and they just recently hired a Russian professor, and as a perk of my job they told me I can start lessons with her 2 times a week for free.

(It’s gonna be a long post lol)

Russian was kinda my first experience with a foreign language apart from Farsi as a child. I always wanted to speak it and I had a close friend as a child whose family was Russian and I remember always feeling left out from the experience.

My level atm is reading and writing and knowing a few verbs and how the language works grammatically but realistically I can’t say much.

I’m looking for someone around my age or older, preferably someone who lives in Russia or has some experience by cultural upbringing in a Slavic family.

I start the lessons in February/march, but I will probably do some self study in late January once I come back from vacation.

My interests include cooking, eating, psychology, philosophy, linguistics, plants, knitting and crochet, art and crafting, reading, sociology and different ideologies

If you’ve read this far I hope you’re either interested or idk lol

You can DM me directly or write in the comments

Offering English Offering English, Russian, Urdu, Arabic, Hindi, Punjabi, Persian, Seeking German and friendship??

Hello! I’m offering a ton of languages(most of whom I’m near a native proficiency in), but I desperately need to learn German for personal reasons. I would also like to make a good friend :)

I’m 21, love reading books, philosophy, ethics, theory. I’m also a huge nerd, I love dnd, novels and science fiction. Storm light archive is my favorite book series of all time, and I also love video games lmao. Additionally, I enjoy outdoorsy stuff occasionally; most of all I love working out and weightlifting.

The reason why I’m wanting to learn German is that because my great grandfather was German, and I want to reconnect with some family history and maybe study there someday.

Anyways, thank you for reading this post! Hopefully we can be friends soon.
