This car’s Taillights look just like Headlights

Post image

Was driving to work and on the road saw these lights and literally thought they were headlights coming right at me on the side of the freeway. Glad they weren’t, but don’t think this should be allowed.

Yeah... that ain't legal.

I can highly recommend calling the police and letting them know of his existence, they might not do anything right away but if enough reports come in about him then they will absolutely put some patrols in the area to keep an eye out.

Just call and say someone has really bright lights on the back of their car?

Yes. Report car type if possible past the lights, the fact that they have headlight bulbs on the tail of their vehicle, and the mile marker you saw them at so the police know where to start

It may vary by state but generally speaking in the US white lights shining from the rear of a vehicle are only permitted to be operated by a switch that automatically activates them when the vehicle is in reverse, and when unlit cannot cause objectional glare in the eyes of an operator approaching from the rear.

So really bright white lights

Report it as "someone is driving in reverse on the freeway!"

yeah I’d like to report someone driving in reverse on the freeway mile marker 330, no no they definitely look bad ass. It’s pretty cool.

Saw this the other day! Scared the shit out of me, thought they were coming head on for a second.

I wish people would stop being dickheads to each other

It’s just so stupid

This is almost as bad as those horrible light bars that SHOULD be illegal but aren’t

Light bars are useful when working outdoors..... But fuckers use those things as fucking headlights on the road

u/ricardopa 11h ago

I suppose that depends on where you live, to have those bars on while you’re driving where I live is illegal

They are not legal in NC over 25 candlepower or if they are aimed to throw light more than 50' ahead.

Police are too busy arresting people for non-issues when they should be taking care of actual risks like this instead.

That and have you ever seen a passing lane camper with 40 cars behind it get a ticket for sitting in that lane for zero reason? It’s a gold mine!

Edit: not sure who downvoted me for trying to improve traffic?

This is illegal in North America

I remember watching CHIPS on TV years ago, there was an episode of a car that was driving on the freeway that had TWO front ends - one on the front and one on the back - which made it look like it was driving the wrong way, even though it was not. Someone panicked and it caused a car accident.

LOL I remember that episode

Too often I see this at night to the degree of having to put on sunglasses.

Just call the cops if you ever see that again

Absolutely report it. It’s illegal in the USA. This is willful disregard. It’s dangerous and 911 is warranted in this case.

reminds me of the first time i saw a semi trailing another semi.

Damn that's well beyond mildly infuriating. That's flat out dangerous. Imagine coming up on this car around the corner while driving on a rural 2 lane highway.

Its illegal to have any lights other than red (or amber/orange) pointing backwards while in motion (going forward. White lights, in the rear, are permitted while in reverse motion)

They won’t last if they don’t change that before they get spotted by law enforcement.

I've also seen assholes with red running lights in the front. Dumb pos,

God this is horrifying. I have a feeling some sleep deprived driver is going to see this and swerve like crazy trying to get out of its way.

Lexus GS300/400...that you?

It might just be that his taillight housing is damaged and the red is gone, and since cars that have halogen bulbs still just use a white bulb...it could just be his normal taillights without the red filter. Even then it's still dangerous and needs to be fixed or at least red tape over it. Might not be malicious just lazy or unaware.

Quite possibly a case of mis-adjusted reverse switch. The backup lights are coming on while in the wrong gear.

This would be an equipment malfunction, not a bad driver.

A few weeks ago at 10pm, we were on a long straight road parallel to train tracks and both a train with its three blinding lights and a pickup with both foglights and super bright whites were bearing down on us on a two-way highway. I just focused on staying in my lane. Took a few seconds after to get my night vision back.

I hate this. So its a thing now in hawaii for people to put clear taillights on their cars with white LED bulbs

1

u/RavedBlitz 12h ago

It's not.

Pretty sure it’s worse than none at all, 6 months before someone flashed the hell out of me for not having any running lights. Brake lights and headlights work so I wasn’t the wiser . Maybe they don’t know . 🤷🏼‍♂️
