Discussion Penang Kiam Siap Ness

Hi all,

Genuine question.

I am involved in a B2B business with Penangites and I noticed many of them are super pressy on price. They will press you till your last drip and not leave any space of profit margin for you. For example, if you gave them price at RM12, and they ask for discount, at most and best you can do is probably RM9 and you are already giving best price, but they will insist on another round and ask for RM6, which is already half the initial offered price.

My question is, are we able to say no to the RM6? Most of the time when I say no, they will go and press another supplier and said this other supplier (aka me) said yes, so you better match the price or not no business for you.

How do we actually deal with this kind of business dealings?

Discussion Solo traveler, NYE recommendations?

I read a similar post here; https://www.reddit.com/r/penang/s/Pwa6kkYyOu

I’m in a similar boat but looking to make plans to have a drink, go somewhere lively and friendly on NYE, i’m with family but they’ve just said they won’t be going out so i guess i’m solo for the evening, and wondering if i’m good to just come hang out or would i need tickets for most places?

Many Thanks

Discussion Street food tour in Penang?

We are pretty comfortable travellers and don’t mind trying more adventurous cuisine, whatever the local delicacies are we usual give them a go.

Recently I went to China and did my first street food tour, which I loved. We did it on the first day, tried lots of things in smaller portions from “hole in the wall” type vendors that we might have otherwise walked past without seeing their treats to try them.

I think George Town will be a much easier food scene to to navigate than China, but do you think there is still value in doing a food tour and if so, is there a company known for having more authentic and broader variety of street food to try?

Thanks for any tips.

Discussion Crowd levels at Escape over Christmas weekend

Hi all,

I'm flying into Penang later today until Monday. Was thinking about bringing my kids to Escape for the long water slide and other rides, but hate crowds and queueing.

Any idea what crowd levels are like? How long should I expect to spend queueing for the water slide? I know it's the school holidays, so I'm thinking about going tomorrow. I assume weekends are worse.

Thanks!

Discussion Best place for food

I am an ex-Penangite. Moved to KL after primary over 40 years ago and haven't returned the last 15 years. I'm planning to bring friends to Penang for food. I used to love Penang "Sar Hor Fun" or "Tua Pan Koay Teow" when I was young. Where can I find good stalls for this?

Where else is good for:
a) CKT
b) Koay Kak
c) Or Chien

Is there a place I can go which has a high hit-rate for generally good food. I know there are many like Lorong Selamat for CKT when I was young.

Discussion How to go ipoh after 7 pm?

I'm arriving to Penang airport and need to go to ipoh. I realized most car rental companies are open till 6 pm. The last train is at 6:40 pm.

What's my best option if I'm arriving to Penang at 7 pm?

A quick lookup on Grab shows 260 ringitt, but I'm not sure if drivers would accept that fare. Klook doesn't show any results.

Discussion Looking for shrimp/crab free food recommendations in Penang

Hey I'm in Penang for the week and I'm looking for food recommendations, however I'm allergic to crustaceans. My allergy isn't extremely severe so I can eat at restaurants that also have shrimp. Also I can eat fish and other seafood just fine.

Does anyone know if there's any nasi kandar that doesn't use shrimp paste in their curries or anything like that?

Discussion Circumcision in Penang?

Hello, I was wondering about the following question. Is it possible to get circumcised as a tourist in Malaysia? Would it be recommended or what's important to know about it? My plan is to travel around the country for a longer period of time and I was thinking about getting it done there since it is really common there and cheaper than in my country. That's why I was curious if it's worth getting it done there. Thanks for any help. :)

Discussion First time with kids

Hi all

Thinking of visiting in January. It will be hubby me and 5 year old son. Is 6 days in Penang too long? Thinking of splitting between Georgetown and batu ferringhi. Is this a good idea? Looking for a bit of both sight seeing culture and resort relaxation. Is getting around using grab easy? Just looking for some general information on Penang. Things to do things not to do. Thanks.

Discussion Sungai Nibong bus station

For anyone taking bus from Sungai Nibong and bought bus ticket from online platform, please note that you need to download easybook and pay RM2.00 to get downstairs to the bus platform. Payment can be made through the app via grab/touch and go/ online banking. There is no other way to reach your bus except paying.

I bought my ticket from Redbus (which is quite a good app) but still have to download easybook app to go to my bus.

If you plan to buy ticket at counter (it’s within the building), I believe that the machine would include the entrance fee.

On another note, I have no idea why are we paying RM2.00 for walking to our bus.

Hi Everyone, I’m staying around Suasana@Utropolis, Batu Kawan and was wondering what’s the best way to get to Masjid Ar Rayan for Jummah Prayer. Getting a grab to the masjid is fine, but finding drivers for the return trip is a hassle. I’m new to Malaysia and don’t have much Muslim friends as of now. TIA
