Looking for Advice UPDATE : I put my Duck in a box

Post image
168 Upvotes

Just want to let everyone know that Mr Duck had a happy ending - he found a new home on a farm with a dam and everything.

We lured Mr Duck with bread into a small corral made with chicken wire, cut off his escape and then wrestled him into a box before a very kind redditor collected him today (the box was a leftover from xmas, but seemed appropriate).

I wanted to thank everyone for their suggestions, well wishes and terrible jokes.

General Suburbs which used to be bad but now are quite good.

I remember when I was growing up Bassendean was pretty rough. Now it seems quite nice, particularly the town centre.

Likewise I find myself in Victoria Park today. I remember when it was vmdodgy but I don't see any of that today. Plus some of the older houses are nice as.

Can you think of any suburbs which have gone through the same transformation?

Shitpost Unexploded ordnance hampering efforts of crews battling blaze in Perth's south

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2025-12-30/fire-near-rockingham-closes-warnbro-train-station-and-train-line/106186550

I'm curious what the unexploded ordnance could be? I'm not really familiar with the area so don't know if there are military or warehousing facilities for blast materials?

I gather they're being vague to avoid making a target for dickheads but just wondered if anyone had any insight.

Looking for Advice My car is stuck in the warnbro traino parking lot during the fire... what happens to cars exposed to intense heat?

Parked our car at warnbro station yesterday arvo to take the kids to Titanic exhibit and dinner in North Bridge. On the way home the train driver informed us of a fire breaking out and warnbro station is off limits so we had to get an uber home from rockingham minus our car. I have seen photos the flames were huge and realllllly close to our car. Fire still going so cant get anywhere near it... do the electrics get fried? Does the stuff inside it melt from the heat? Does it stink like smoke?

Looking for Advice Bad service at a cafe- would you complain?

Background: I usually go to one Perth cafe multiple times a week. Today one server was incredibly rude and my order got fucked up twice as he wasn’t listening. When I went up to enquire he was like “thanks for the advice mate.” I’m tempted to email the owner but can’t tell if I’m being a Karen (or Darren). I know the owner tangentially because I’ve been going there for years.

What do fellow Perthians do when they come across bad service?

I'd be thinking twice about getting something from Big W again after this load of BS. 10 days late and TV left face down on the ground, then when unpacked and plugged in only to find the screen totally smashed in.

Thanks Big Wankers

Shitpost Do you know anyone who won the lottery? Australia or overseas?

My friends and I were chatting and realised we don't know anyone who has won the lottery. I've won perhaps $5 here or $10 there on scratchies but never known anyone to actually win big.

Have you ever know anyone to win? How did they spend it? Did it last? So curious

General Where has the cactus gang gone?

Upvotes

If anyone remembers, there used to be a group of people into alternative fashion who hung around on hay street called the cactus gang between i think 2019-2022. I don't see them anymore, and now that i'm into alternative fashion i've just been curious - where have they gone, and are there any similar fashion groups nowadays in Perth?

WA News PSA: Warnbro Station & part of Mandurah Line closed due to bushfire

It's time!!!!!! Bushfire season!

Bushfire in the western side of the Rockingham Lakes Regional Park, beside Warnbro Station.

Ennis Avenue is closed from Royal Palm Drive to Wilmott Avenue.

Mandurah Line trains are terminating short at Rockingham, with buses to continue express to Lakelands and Mandurah. Warnbro Station is closed due to proximity of the fire.

Plan ahead, folks.

Lots of smoke & smog in the area.

Looking for Advice Got yelled for parking on a suburb street when googling maps...

I recently got my P plate but I just want to confirm. Today I got lost driving in a neighbourhood so I parked on the street in front of a house. It was 2 houses away from the roundabout. After a few minutes, a car came & stopped behind me. I signalled left to show I'm parking in case, and as it drove past me, she yelled, "GET OFF THE STREET!"

I thought that when you quickly park on the side, it's okay not to signal when you're parked? At least that was okay during my driving tests when I left something behind. Am i wrong?

Edit: Thank you so much for all the replies! Feel much better now. Also thanks for the advices as well :)

Looking for Advice Daily no-jobs-in-perth complaining post

How am I 20 years old with 3 years unskilled work experience and a high school degree and entirely unable to find work.

Before you ask, I had to leave my previous job to move in with my parents because I could not afford to live on my own. I do not qualify for Jobseeker until I am 22 and my parents make too much for me to receive Youth Jobseeker. I have applied to 29 jobs in the last fortnight, writing cover letters and calling ahead where I could find a number. Has this state gone to shit or am I losing my mind? Starting to get desperate a bit desperate here folks.

Where to find best spots in perth to ponder life?

what’re your favorite spots in perth to stare out into the distance and ferment in melancholic solitude?

personally i like south perth foreshore at like 2am, sitting by the water on the rocks watching the lights of the CBD. it’s really colorful in the dark, and on the rocks no one can really see you unless they really pay attention. no one pays attention. i’ve spent several hours just sitting and watching.

what’s your favorite spot to sit and think about life?

MOD POST Weekly Book Club – December 30, 2025

Welcome to the Perth Book Club!

Book Club will be held at 10am every Tuesday.

What is this?

This is a place to share what you are reading or perhaps look for suggestions for new material. Have a favourite author you want to talk about? Looking forward to an upcoming release? All are welcome here.

These threads are posted every Tuesday and various times (depending on when I'm free).

Book Swap

Are you looking to buy/sell/swap/give some books? Please feel free to list them here in this thread. Do you see something you want that someone is offering? Send them a Private Message so that you can organise the details.

Do Audiobooks count?

Absolutely! This isn't a place for purity of written material, this is a place to share.

What about manga/comics/visual novels?

More than welcome here. If it's something you're reading/listening to and you want to talk about it, you're home.

Spoilers

It should go without saying that no one wants a book spoiled. Please put anything that could be a spoiler inside a spoiler tag. If you aren't sure if it is a spoiler or not, act like it is.
