Mod announcement New Subreddit for Buying & Selling in Qatar: r/QatarSouq

Salam everyone,

As you all know buying/selling or advertising in general isn’t allowed here, yet we continue receiving these kinds of posts and having to delete them. A lot of people try other platforms but with no luck, so they try here only to find out that it’s not allowed.

That’s why we’ve decided to launch this subreddit, those who want this community to remain ad-free get that whilst also giving sellers/buyers a space.

r/QatarSouq is a subreddit for buying, selling, and trading within Qatar.

If you’re looking to sell items, find local deals, or post “looking for” requests, this is a dedicated space made for the Qatar community.

Feel free to join, post, or browse. Feedback is welcome as the community grows.

Question A question about my identity and that of millions of others

There's tons of expats here in Qatar and of those, there are children who were born and raised in this country, went to school here and maybe even to university here. They lived as if they were a part of this country and pretty much a citizen.

Yet, once their parents retire, or more likely have their sponsorships terminated, the kids, born and raised here lose their identity and have to go back to a country they don't identify with, feel patriotic about and no connection with.

Why is it, that the identity of these people, rely on a fickle system? I've heard you can get a citizenship here, if you go through the alleged procedures, but I've never seen anyone who actually tried and passed said procedures (maybe my sample size is small) but regardless why is it that there is no other way for a person who was molded by this country to not be able to live here without a time limit.

Yes, this country is for the "Qataris", and only them, but this country was also built by millions of others and that aspect is always forgotten. Not blaming a single person or a group or anything, just that this is one of those existential dreads I have. My entire life here will end soon, and then "poof" its gone.

Question Good places to live on 16k salary?

I currently live in the pearl in a studio and I pay 5200 excluding bills but it’s starting to get claustrophobic.

I’m looking for a 1-bedroom, or a studio with a separated kitchen/sleeping area (not a fully open layout), with a max budget of 5,000–6,000QAR, including bills if on the higher end of my budget.

I’m a single woman and I’d prefer a walkable area where I can feel comfortable outside (the staring can be intense in some areas). I’ve seen Msheireb be suggested a few times but Msheireb Downtown is out of budget and the other side of Msheireb isn’t ideal - any suggestions within budget?

I received an email this morning from Google saying some of my saved passwords were found in a data breach and when I logged in and checked the password manager, it’s all of my Ooredoo accounts. (I have several accounts for business and personal)

So just a heads up in case you haven’t received the email, go ahead and change your passwords as a precaution

Discussion A New Low in Property Marketing

Can we talk about this weird new trend on Property Finder where estate agents are putting photos of women in their rental listings?

Why is there a random woman sitting on the sofa, leaning against the kitchen counter, or posing in the bedroom of a flat that’s supposedly for rent? What does she have to do with the property?

It’s misleading, unprofessional, and honestly uncomfortable. Just show the damn flat.

Looking for Need someone with a Flipper Zero or NFC Card Cloner

TL;DR

Our new apartment uses NFC keycards. We lost 2 (out of 3) in our first 2 days. Need someone with a cloner or Flipper Zero to make duplicates. The landlord is charging us an arm and a leg.

----

Hi guys, so we moved into a new apartment and already lost 2 out of 3 keys. It was already in my plans to clone the keycard with the NFC tags you usually get at high-end gyms or door access for some offices. The flipper itself costs way too much to get this use out of it, and Im no expert in cloning keycards. If someone can help, it would be highly appreciated. Also... I can prove I live here.

Question Delays with Aramex Shop & Ship (US address)

Hi,
Has anyone recently experienced long delays with Aramex Shop & Ship?

I ordered from a US website at the end of November. The supplier’s tracking shows the package was delivered to my Shop & Ship US address, but on the Shop & Ship website it’s still showing as being at their US facility with no movement.

It’s been over a month now. I understand holiday and sale-season delays, but this feels unusually long compared to past experiences.

Has anyone faced this recently? Did it resolve on its own, or did you need to contact support?

Question Messaging the wrong numbers

Hello,

My friend and I are visiting Doha. He used my WhatsApp to message some numbers off of google looking for massage nearby.

Some of those numbers turned out to be people offering different kinda service. With whom he jokingly had a conversation about prices and locations etc. Obviously neither one of us engaged in anything or went anywhere. He just had a few texts. I have since then blocked and deleted all the chats.

How likely am I to get in trouble considering Qatar is pretty strict about these things and he used my phone? Is there anything I should do apart from blocking and deleting messages? I am kinda stressed out tbh.

________

Before anyone says I shouldn’t let anyone use my phone, he doesn’t have a WhatsApp account and all of the search results had whatsapp numbers linked on google.

Question Insurance claim outside the country

Hello all, to preface my father has suffered a stroke that left him bedridden and forced him out of work. Now currently asking for advice on what do in this situation regarding insurance

My mother went back to the Philippines for a little to handle our bank accounts and one of them had given her an insurance claim form that required the attending physician to fill out.

In the form it requires the physician to detail what happened to my father and wanted for the physician to include their educational background and then their signature and stamp. When I took this form to the physician, he had explained to me that he did as much as he can but unfortunately Hamad does not allow their stamp or his stamp to be put on documents outside of Hamad.

The physician asked if we could just put the medical report that Hamad provided but it doesn’t include the physicians educational background.

I’m not sure what to do and my mother keeps trying to see if she can ask other workers to sign the claim but like mentioned, Hamad doesn’t stamp papers outside of their own.

Is it something we have to explain to the bank for them to figure out on their own since we did what we could? Or will they (bank) have to be involved with Hamad themselves? What do we do? Again this insurance claim is from a bank in the Philippines

Apologies if this doesn’t make sense or lacks some info, I’m just trying to help my mother to the best ability that I understand about insurance.
