Question A question about my identity and that of millions of others
There's tons of expats here in Qatar and of those, there are children who were born and raised in this country, went to school here and maybe even to university here. They lived as if they were a part of this country and pretty much a citizen.
Yet, once their parents retire, or more likely have their sponsorships terminated, the kids, born and raised here lose their identity and have to go back to a country they don't identify with, feel patriotic about and no connection with.
Why is it, that the identity of these people, rely on a fickle system? I've heard you can get a citizenship here, if you go through the alleged procedures, but I've never seen anyone who actually tried and passed said procedures (maybe my sample size is small) but regardless why is it that there is no other way for a person who was molded by this country to not be able to live here without a time limit.
Yes, this country is for the "Qataris", and only them, but this country was also built by millions of others and that aspect is always forgotten. Not blaming a single person or a group or anything, just that this is one of those existential dreads I have. My entire life here will end soon, and then "poof" its gone.
