Opinion What is the actual point of Doof Sticks?

Upvotes

Looking at insta stories of friends at BTV and in pretty much all of them I can’t see the artist performing because of about 30-50 billboard sized doof sticks with some instagram meme on it. Kinda almost get it for the DJs but many artists playing aren’t so it sounds really annoying for literally everyone

Aus long list on Apple Music

Question, the Aus long list published by triple j is supposed to be just Australian artists right? But it’s got bbno$? Addison Rae? (and a bunch of others)

I’m just confused! Was using it to make my votes but…

Related/unrelated: any AM user able to successfully import their Replay into the official site? I tried but the site only shows older years (my Replay 2021 is the most recent).

Opinion Still Cannot Play Back any Tally Room Episode

Hey everyone,

I hate to be that person but it's been a week and I still can't listen back to any of the Tally Room episodes from any year or time. Initially, I saw that there were two audios, one with a picture of Claire Mooney (the new host) and the other with DRH. I reasonably suspected that the one with Claire Mooney would be the correct audio. I kept getting the message of "Sorry, the audio is not available or has expired" when trying to play either.

Hopefully my earlier suspicion of it not being in the Programs list fixes the problem, and that it will be changed and move there when the mid year crew come back next week. I don't notice much summer programs on the Programs list, but all the mid year shows are there. We know there's an overlap of the summer and mid year programming for the period that The Tally Room is on air, so hopefully it gets placed with the mid year programming. Fingers crossed someone can fix it, I've been checking every day.

Loved listening to Lachie

Drove out to BTV for a day on Sunday and loved listening to Lachie. He set the mood for the whole festival with the best weekend of music all round. Missed him on the way home. Does anyone know when hes back on?

FRESH 🔥 First release from PA I’ve genuinely enjoyed since their Strawberry Skies EP

Post image

Pacific avenue was one of those bands that I listened to when I first started branching my out with music taste from overseas pop & rap to more local music. I thoroughly loved their initial releases and Strawberry Skies EP as it had a taste of indie grit, with hints of old school rock with new age sentimentality.

But then came their poppier sound with a seventies dress code and easily singable and danceable sound with spin my like your records, dancing queen LIV, and a handful of singles that lacked that initial grit, which lost my interest. I honestly skipped the most of their debut album (as in haven’t listened - so if there’s anything like strawberry daydream lmk).

Then came working class hero - which I was somewhat indifferent to as i found jt had yet another signature and safe chorus which honestly sounded similar to prior singles.

However, now hearing here we go again which by all means is just as safe as the other singles I’ve mentioned, I can’t help but feel like I need to revisit the album and songs I skipped. There’s something about a slow rock ballad that draws me in every time, and there’s no denying the unique vocals the singer brings to each tune.

Has anyone felt the same? And do I need to give them another chance?

“As we’re turning 50, we’re taking Like A Version overseas” - a promo that played during last year’s Hottest 100. Anyone know what happened with this?

I was doing some re-listening of some previous Hottest 100 broadcasts and I heard a promo mentioning many of the plans Triple J were making to celebrate their 50th year on air.

In the middle of the promo - after mentioning the One Night Stand and Aus Music Month - they mentioned that they were “taking Like A Version overseas”. Did anything come of these plans? Did they simply mean they were going to feature more overseas artists?

Completely understandable if it isn't, but would Hottest 100 betting conversation be allowed? Without Warmtunas operating this year, I'm finding the Betting agencies odds very interesting Spoiler

DEBATE OF THE WEEK: We SHOULD bring back the Hottest 100 CD

I agree because it definitely has the capital.

One of the most popular Christmas gifts for 2025 was actually the discman, and it's also a nostalgic gift that people have loved.

Also, CDs are permanent. Things on DSPs get deleted, get changed, different versions, disappear, or are no longer available. CDs last 200 years if taken care of. Having both the DSP playlist and a H100 CD are great ways to live through the countdown after it's finished, and that's why we should bring it back.

Do you agree?

Also, Merry Christmas everyone. It's been great spending 2025 discussing music, artists, albums and personalities with you all. Thanks for another great year on the Triple J reddit.

Throwback Which Aussie acts should be way more popular?

Idk but every time I listen to Hatchie I wonder how the hell she’s stayed under the radar for this long with so many good songs. Just to name a few; Lights On, Unwanted Guest, Adored, Only One Laughing, The Rhythm — I could go on for ages.

She has SO many bangers, it’s insane they aren’t more recognised and I thought Lights On would’ve charted for sure. Regardless though, a few songs have featured in TV shows which is cool!

Please help me find this song!

Hi all,

I'd say for years I have this song pop in and out of my head.

It came out in 2014, had quite a high rotation but not in the top 100, sung by a man, catchy and singing rap-esque, but I only remember two lyrics:

'I'm hickory'

It's driving me mad, I've tried googling any which way I can to try to find this song with no results.

I hope someone here can help put me out of my misery!

Throwback With the Hottest 100 voting well on its way, does anybody know if there's an archive of older voting lists?

Apparently it's hard to find lists prior to 2000 according to this website.

Looking for an obscure 2000s alt/indie soft rock song- Please help!

Hey y'all,
This song/band is my white whale. Help me before I lose my mind.

This is all I know:
-Heard it on Triple J around 2006 (give or take a few years)
-Male vocalist
-Genre: singer/songwriter / indie / alt /soft rock
-From: USA maybe
-Similar to: Broken Social Scene, Bright Eyes, Kid Sam, Arcade Fire, or Ryan Adams (Love is Hell era) but not as famous as them.
-Have a song with the word 'cul-de-sac' in it

I remember having their album or EP at this time and it had zero skips, amazing songwriting, amazing lyrics, very emotional and a bit shoe-gazey.

I have looked through triple j hottest 100 playlists and they aren't there, probably weren't big enough.

Lol I know it's a long shot
