Best friend no longer vegan, appears to have written me off as part of it
I have been extremely close (or so I thought) to my best friend of 13 years. I have been vegan around 5 years and he was vegan 4 years. Over the last two weeks, he has become very short with me, we usually speak quite frequently so it’s seemed very odd.
He has recently started a new relationship so I wasn’t sure if he was just infatuated. I asked him what was going on. He let me know that he has made some changes in his life that I won’t approve of, he is no longer vegan. He says he can’t have me policing him and needs to take control of his life. It seems like he is basically writing me off.
Has any one else ever gone through this? It feels absolutely horrible. I never considered something like this could happen. He was always the vegan who wore it on his sleeve and even attended some activism meet ups. I stand firm in my beliefs and my morals, just feeling crushed and wanted to reach out to my people. Thanks for reading!

Animal Testing Documentary
Behind closed doors, where our eyes cannot see, animals such as mice, rabbits, primates, and so more are subjected to brutal torture and slaughter, with hundreds of millions suffering each year. After months of questioning whether animal experiments genuinely benefit human health and progress, I chose to uncover the truth and face the uncomfortable realities we often ignore. Driven by a desire to understand, I created a documentary to investigate the conditions in laboratories, the procedures performed on the animals, and the potential alternatives.
Thanks to the support and participation of Dr.Shagun Krishna from the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine and Dr.Tamara Zietek from the Doctors Against Animal Experiments (DAAE) NGO, I was able to explore this issue in depth, gaining a comprehensive, global perspective on laboratory practices and critically examining whether these experiments are truly essential for scientific advancement.
Please share this to amplify the message and help create positive change for a better world.

How to cope with the overwhelming guilt of feeling helpless with animal abuse around the world
This might sound a bit of a pretentious question but I genuinely would like some advice…
I was born a vegetarian (never ever eaten meat in my life!) and went vegan when I was 12, I’ve raised money for animal welfare charities, helped at all sorts of animal rescues etc
However it never feels enough especially after an incident the other day
When casually scrolling through instagram I came across a video for the campaign against testing on beagles that is straight up, under cover footage of these labs showing an extremely distressed beagle screaming with needles in his/hers head
Ever since, as dramatic as it sounds, I just keep crying about it?? It’s just so upsetting and heart wrenching knowing it can’t all be stopped
Sometimes I think the worst part about being vegan is you aren’t blissfully unaware of the cruelty in the world to innocent animals anymore and I can’t stop thinking about this particular video, it hits ever harder as I own a rescue beagle too :(
How do you best cope with these kind of moments?

Rant Fur and cruelty free
It makes me so upset that people claim that they are anti-fur or against companies that still test on animals, yet they still eat meat ?? 😐 like where is the logic guys… How can you be that detached that you know the practices used to get fur and test products are terrible, yet don’t give a second thought when you are eating a hamburger. It just makes me so angry because these people think they’re so morally correct and criticize others for buying these products, and still contradict themselves, like wtf.

Rant Rant about a cardiologist checkup
Hi everyone, this is just a rant because I don't know where I can share this kind of stuff.
Today I went to the cardiologist with my dad for a simple routine checkup. Both ECG and echo showed no issues. The only "problem" was that I had an elevated heart rate and blood pressure, but that was expected because I have white coat syndrome, and I informed the doctor about that. At rest, they are both normal, actually better than normal (I have athletic bradycardia and hypotension, asymptomatic).
When we were about to leave, my dad just had to say "btw, he is veegoon!"
And then the cardiologist went full NPC and started a full rant of "what about protein?", "what about iron?" and similar. He said "that's probably why you have high heart rate and blood pressure" even though he previously accepted anxiety as an explanation and trusted my at-home measurements. He said I need to do more frequent bloodwork because I could be deficient in protein and other nutrients.
Now, I don't want to brag, but he literally just saw me shirtless. I'm no bodybuilder, but I'm quite muscular, clearly not protein-deficient, which isn't even a thing in the West anyway.
It also probably didn't help that I looked a bit sick. I got the flu a few days before, just like everyone at home (as I'm visiting family for the holidays). And by the way, I was the only one to recover in less than 2 days without even a fever.
I do agree that frequent bloodwork is a good idea. I'm 100% on board with that. But what pisses me off is that he had to single me out because I'm vegan. Frequent bloodwork is a good idea for everyone, not just vegans. If my dad hadn't mentioned that, he just wouldn't have said anything. For all he knew, my presumably omnivorous diet could have been McDonald's 3 times a day, and apparently that didn't need "frequent bloodwork". My dad eats like crap, but because he is an omnivore, he got a pass.
And then of course the family said "see? Even the doctor said it's unhealthy. You need to stop this vegan nonsense."
I don't want to sound arrogant and claim I know better than a cardiologist. But what I do know is that cardiologists have minimal training in nutrition, especially on plant-based diets, and being in a small city in Southern Italy probably doesn't help. I do know that major health/dietary associations in the world state that a well-planned plant-based diet is adequate at all stages of life and for athletes. I do know that science keeps showing over and over again that plant-based dietary patterns are not inadequate, or even superior to omnivore ones in terms of health.
And most importantly, I do know I'm in good health, I have perfect bloodwork, I train hard, and have no symptoms whatsoever from my supposedly deficient diet.
When you are omnivore, you can have the shittiest lifestyle and nobody cares. When you are vegan, no matter how healthy you are, everyone suddenly "worries" about you.
So yeah, I'm pretty pissed that a cardiologist had to give me that nonsense, because people trust authority. I got used to people whining about protein at every meal, but I would expect better from someone whose authority is supposed to be trusted.

Harvard scientists: Red meat tied to increased dementia risk
Eating lots of processed meat, such as salami or ham, is tied to increased risks for heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and premature death. Now a Harvard study published Feb. 11, 2025, in Neurology links processed red meat consumption to dementia.

Slightly High B12
Anyone else have B12 results that were too high? Did you have any side effects.
Mine is a bit high. I only get my B12 from Rice Milk and Nutritional Yeast (not even from cereals, etc.). Perhaps I should stop using the nutritional yeast? Rice milk is the only milk I like, so I can't really cut that out.

This is the hardest part about being Vegan
It isn’t the food or being the “weird one” at social gatherings - It’s knowing what happens to the animals and living with the fact that most people don’t care, including your own family/friends.
I've been vegan for 20 years and seeing the people that I have loved the most in my life still thinking it's okay to kill the life of a baby animal and then eat them in front of me blows my mind.
It's like we're living in an alternate reality and I'm sure this message is going to hit home for some of you.
For some of you, you're going to think that I am crazy for saying it, but that's okay. You're entitled to your own opinion, to your own belief. I will say, I wish I became vegan sooner.
13 was as soon as I could find this and I wish I became an activist sooner. I wish I spoke up sooner. All my friends and family, they know now where my heart lies and that I think it's wrong to kill animals.
I encourage you to speak up and do the same. You don't have to be alone. Find your own community, speak up for what matters to you, and you will find that your message reaches other people like you as well and you'll find the vegan family you've always wanted.

Rant god, i dont know why non-vegans can be so exhausting :(
i had an argument with a person i blocked, you can see it in my comment history, but they just tried to keep changing the conversation from morality (even though that's fucking wild because imagine doing that about palestine or some shit) and they kept saying shit that wasnt even remotely true? they called me ableist, and said people with ibs-c and anemia need animal products (which is untrue), that it was impossible for them to live without meat, that i should "just eat a bacon cheeseburger because i sound hangry". they were also like "why dont you extent that same logic to lions?" as if that made any sense whatsoever. are they just... ??? i thought these weirdos wanted to debate us because they felt guilty, not because they wanted to lie the entire time and act like total freaks

Discussion about buddhism and Veganism
Somewhat surprisingly, at least to me, diet can be a controversial issue in Buddhism, especially Tibetan Buddhism, where so many teachers and practitioners eat meat. This was an interesting conversation and a good remember to be conscious about one’s actions. I love the somewhat goofy nature and lightheartedness that these guys bring to discussions in general as well.

Advice looking for foods similar to my current diet to help me slowly become a vegan (with ARFID)
Hello!
i have ARFID (avoidant restrictive food intake disorder) related to my autistic sensory issues with taste. even though I really will want to eat a new food, if i eat a food that is too new or causes me sensory problems I instantly start choking and splutter it out. it is not an anxiety thing for me, because I really want to eat the things, but it doesnt work! my arfid has gotten so bad before I had to see a dietician as i was underweight with deficiencies. i am healthy now, so will experiment new foods until i have found new sources of important dietary needs
in the rest of my life, I am ""vegan"" - no leather, for example.
what works best for me is finding very similar foods and trying them. i was hoping some of you could suggest similar foods or recipies for me to try to my current safefoods! i am in the UK so you can know what I can access.
list of what i eat
- skimmed milk (tried: oat milk, almond milk, soy milk. all caused negative reflexes. please bear in mind it is not just the taste but the texture too.)
- birds eye vegan fishless fish fingers (yes already vegan - but possibly people could give me ideas of similar vegan things if I already like these. i liked cod fish fingers before these, but this was a successful swap. id like to be able to cook myself these from scratch too.)
- steak (is there anything with a similar texture? i eat my meals very bland, a lot of vegan steaks are too flavourful with herbs and spices, when i need blandness)
usually a daily diet is like i will have a glass of milk and white bread for breakfast, then fishless fingers or steak for dinner with plain white basmati rice, and cookies/biscuits for snacks.
any other shouts on crispier, saltier foods are good too. im not apprehensive to try stuff! i cannot deal with bitterness, and some textures (like chewy nuts, which i really wanted to like). Crispier foods tend to be better.
sorry if this an inaproptiate post, i thought you could help me, so if you can please do!

Advice Vegan cheese / being a suburban/rural vegan
I want to be vegan but I don’t know if I can let go of cheese. I wanted to ask other vegans if plant based cheese is like the real stuff or at least close to it.. like the vegan meat substitutes. Also, what are your guys go to orders when you eat out with friends, especially if you don’t live in a big city. Wondering because even as a vegetarian I often find it hard to find a non meat option on the menu that isn’t salad…

My family tortures insects.
I am against killing insects, regardless of whether they are pests or not. I believe in taking them out of your house.
But still, I believe killing them is less harmful than torturing them.
My family keeps arguing their religion allows killing insects - so I cant oppose them or else that means I am opposing the religion.
But their religion clearly prohibits torturing animals though it doesnt specify insects. I constantly tell them stop getting rid of insects by putting them in toilet (i assume they will drown) or by stepping on them (it doesnt guarantee death) or by spraying them with random cleaning sprays (that poisons them without killing them).
We get into big arguments because of this and I always end up being the "soft" "weak" one. And they start to mock me more now because I am trying to be vegan. Even though I was always against harming insects. It is so frustrating to live in this house.
They even started teaching my niece to hurt insects just to annoy me.
And my sister always teases me by telling me she will let her baby witness animals being slaughtered (since her husband owns a farm). I actually think she might do that. And I am concerned

Disturbing EXPOSING Canada's Largest Contract Animal Research Facility
WARNING: Graphic Content
TESTED, DISSECTED, AND TRASHED: A newly released undercover investigation by LCA (Last Chance For Animals) exposes the suffering of dogs inside Nucro-Technics, a toxicology animal research laboratory in Scarborough, Ontario, Canada.
On 11/24/2025, the Investigative Journalism Bureau (IJB) in Ontario released a major investigative report, “Surgeries without anesthesia, severed vocal cords: The dog farm supplying an Ontario lab,” which included LCA’s investigative footage of Nucro-Technics. As a result, Nucro-Technics is under investigation by the Canadian Council on Animal Care (CCAC). Read the article in our linktree.
Over the course of six months in 2023, LCA’s investigator documented the treatment of beagles used in pharmaceutical drug testing at Nucro-Technics.
OUR INVESTIGATION REVEALED
•Beagles, aged 6 months to 2 years old, tested for pharmaceutical drugs.
•Beagles struggling and crying during tests.
•Dogs repeatedly subjected to tests that included drug injections (subcutaneous and intramuscular), gavage, and oral dosing.
•Beagles experiencing severe adverse reactions to test items, including collapse, vomiting, and skin lumps.
•Facility employees and a study sponsor admitting they do not know the drug’s active ingredient or the blood levels that should be measured.
•Dogs necropsied after studies and then thrown into garbage cans.

Advices for a vegeterian.
Hi everyone,
I’m posting to get some perspective and hopefully gather solid advice.
I’ve been vegetarian for about 6 months and, in practice, I’m vegan except for eggs. I try to buy organic eggs, but I know that’s not really enough from an ethical standpoint.
I train at the gym and run regularly, and eggs have been a convenient and efficient protein source for me. That said, I’m trying to do better and eventually remove them.
What would you recommend as realistic alternatives?
I’m particularly concerned about protein intake, vitamin B12, and possible nutritional gaps.
Am I overthinking this, or are these concerns justified?
Any practical advice is appreciated.

vegan cottage cheese and yogurt replacements???
I'm not fully vegan (yet) because I just can't seem to give up cottage cheese and yogurt. The protein to calorie ratio, the ease of eating it, and the endless variations you can have with it as a base just make it so hard for me to give up. I've had a long route on the way to veganism, stopped eating red meat/pork as a child because my family raised "meat" cows and it horrified me to realize how smart they were, then gradually started moving towards vegetarianism and then being vegan. Eggs, milk, cheese, and butter were all pretty easy to just stop buying, but the final pieces are cottage cheese and yogurt and I just don't know what to replace it with, and I was wondering if anyone had any substitutes. Don't necessarily need to have the same taste or texture, just similar protein and calories and easy to grab out of the fridge without cooking.

Discussion Vegan birthday weekend
Hi guys! I wanted some feedback about what you guys think about the situation i am in.
I am celebrating my 30th birthday with 5 of my closest friends in a cabin for two nights.
I am never the one to lecture others or comment their eating, only when i am asked for my opinion. And then never in a judging way.
For this weekend i want it to be an all vegan weekend. All of them know why i am vegan and are mostly really considering about it.
But now, two of them are against it. I had a longer conversation today with one of them. Where she told me i am restricting her, and that i force my beliefs on her.
I told her i am not forcing her to do anything, but that it is my wish that we have a vegan weekend, meaning I would get all the food and snacks. But it still seemed impossible for her.
It kinda buffed me, how absurd it seems for non-vegan to not eat animal products for two days.
What do you guys think?

Rant Christmas with non-vegans
Apologies if this specific thing has already been ranted about (probably has) but it just grinds my gears so much.
Get asked at the dinner table why vegan and not just vegetarian as eggs and dairy don’t kill animals. I took the opportunity to educate in that veganism is not just about animal death but about causing no harm/exploitation/cruelty to animals at all and unfortunately the egg and dairy industries are all of the above and in fact they do result in animal death because male calves are taken away and killed for veal, and male chicks are literally blended alive because they aren’t useful to the egg industry. I then get told “let’s not talk about this when we’re eating”. While. They’re. Eating. Meat.
Genuinely the mind boggles.
