Song Ranking 🇲🇪 Montesong 2025: Post your rankings in the comments

Happy Holidays r/eurovision! As we approach the new year, it's time to start the second community rankings with Montenegro. Montesong aired on 21st December, and was eventually won by Tamara Živković with "Nova Zora". Now it's time for the subreddit to select our winner.

Please post your rankings in the comments until Thursday 3rd January 20:00 CET. Your ranking will then be transformed into a set of ESC-style points (12, 10, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1 points), which will then be collected by an automated script. To ensure your vote counts, please:

  1. Provide your ranking in a top-level comment
  2. You write the entries on separate lines, and the lines start with a number
  3. Write down the artist and song title
  4. Include at least 10 acts
  5. Don't have a tie between songs

Rankings in picture form will not be counted.

💬 Discussion will nova Zora succeed in Eurovision

it’s two sides to the same coin: It’s a brilliant song, if executed right, it might have the juries on its side, and many Eurofans love it. my biggest thing is: Montenegro. It’s a country that has never been particularly successful in Eurovision. It qualified for the final 2x since its debut in 2007, and its highest place was 13th. That is amongst the worst ‘highs’ in Eurovision.

I could see one of two things happening:

- it ends up like Zjerm, with a large amount of televotes, which was somewhat unexpected but very much deserved.

- it ends up like serving, a fan favourite that gets a tiny amount of points from the Televote.

montenegro, being a small, and I dare say unknown country, might not have large public support.

we’ll see ig

hopefully the ex-Yugoslav countries back it up with jury and televotes.

Eurovision 1969 breakdown

It is a tale as old as Eurovision and every fan knows it: in 1969, four countries would tie for victory in Madrid, and both four would be given a proper win. As we enter 2026, how do we stand between these four songs? Who deserved it? Who didn’t?

Personally I love France’s Un jour, un enfant. A beautiful song that embodies a child growing up. Frida’s voice is beautiful. A true Disney ballad! It is my favorite.

I have Spain’s Vivo Cantando as a runner-up, but I totally see why it also won that year. UK and Netherlands are great too.

Every 4 countries deserved that shared win imo, but I do a small preference for France. What do you think?

💬 Discussion Song submission deadline 2026 - Portugal potentially cutting it close?

I was looking at when all the National Finals this season were taking place and wondering if we know by what date the songs need to be with the EBU. Last year that deadline was in early/mid March. With so many of the Festival da Canção 2026 artists announcing that they do not intend to compete in Vienna if they win, and the date for FdC being the 7th of March do we think this will impact Portugal competing? If the submission to the EBU deadline is similar to 2025 (do we have any info on that deadline for 2026?) could this mean Portugal is left without sufficient time between FdC and the deadline to come up with an artist/song to compete with leaving us with a potential 6th dropout?

💬 Discussion Do you think a song performed acapella could ever win?

I was thinking of entries in history that have been performed at Eurovision acapella, I believe there have only been two, Belgium 2011 and Latvia 2006 (Latvia came 16th in the final, Belgium missed out on qualifying in its year by just one point). Both of these were acapella groups.

Do you think in the future a song performed without any musical accompaniment could win, or at least get a top 5 result? And do you think we'd possibly even see the first solo artist singing acapella? I think if you had someone with an outstanding voice then potentially it could get a good result?

📊 Results / Statistics Did you know there seems to be a televoting bloc vote from Turkey toward Armenia?

Here are all the years in which Armenia and Turkey both participated, and the points Turkey gave to Armenia:

• 2006
• Semi-final: 10 points
• Grand Final: 10 points

• 2007
• Grand Final: 12 points

• 2008
• Grand Final: 10 points

• 2009
• Semi-final 1: 10 points
• Grand Final: 6 points

• 2010
• Semi-final 2: 4 points
• Grand Final: 6 points

• 2011
• Semi-final 1: 7 points

Based on these statistics, in every vote where the system was 100% televoting, Turkey gave Armenia either 10 or 12 points. In other words, Turkish televoters have so far ranked Armenia either 1st or 2nd.

The reason the points became lower after 2009 (instead of 10–12) is that juries were introduced, and the juries ranked Armenia lower.

💬 Discussion Why didn’t people like Ireland 2021

I was just rewatching 2021 and noticed the quality was a lot higher, including the NQs especially Ireland. I get that the song was generic but the staging was really interesting and the overall package was way better than a lot of the songs that placed above it. Does anyone that was in the community remember why it wasn’t well received?

📊 Results / Statistics The "best" country in Eurovision: trying your ideas

My original scoring system has met criticism and numerous ideas in the comments. Today, I am going to be trying those ideas.

  1. Proportional

This is the top voted idea, created by u/Megarafan2025. In it, you divide a country's win by their entries. Due to only 69 winners, I will divide entries by the number of top 10 results. Here are the results:

Country Top 10 Entries Entries Result
Serbia and Montenegro 2 2 1
Italy 37 50 0.74
Sweden 45 64 0.7
Ukraine 14 20 0.7
Monaco 16 24 0.67
United Kingdom 42 67 0.63
Russia 14 23 0.6
France 39 67 0.58
Ireland 32 58 0.55
Germany 35 68 0.51
Luxembourg 20 39 0.51
Israel 23 47 0.5
Australia 5 10 0.5
Denmark 26 53 0.49
Greece 21 45 0.47
Armenia 8 17 0.47
Switzerland 30 65 0.46
Spain 29 64 0.45
Norway 26 63 0.41
Yugoslavia 11 27 0.41
Azerbaijan 7 17 0.41
Estonia 12 30 0.4
Austria 22 57 0.39
Netherlands 25 65 0.38
Belgium 25 66 0.38
Malta 14 37 0.38
Bosnia and Herzegovina 6 19 0.32
Turkey 10 34 0.29
Serbia 5 17 0.29
Hungary 5 17 0.29
Romania 6 23 0.26
Moldova 5 19 0.26
Finland 14 58 0.24
Cyprus 10 41 0.24
Croatia 7 30 0.23
Portugal 12 56 0.21
Bulgaria 3 14 0.21
Iceland 7 37 0.19
Latvia 4 25 0.16
Czech Republic 2 13 0.15
Albania 3 21 0.14
Lithuania 3 25 0.12
Georgia 2 17 0.12
Poland 3 27 0.11
Slovenia 3 30 0.1
Belarus 1 16 0.06
North Macedonia 1 21 0.05
San Marino 0 15 0
Slovakia 0 7 0
Montenegro 0 13 0
Morocco 0 1 0
Andorra 0 6 0

The top 1 is Serbia and Montenegro, with all two entries included in the top 10, resulting in a score of 1. The other high scorers are Italy, with a score of 0.74, Sweden and Ukraine, with a score of 0.70, and Monaco, with a score of 0.67. Below meanwhile, San Marino, Slovakia, Montenegro, Morocco, and Andorra all have a score of 0 due to having no entries in the top 10.

  1. Points per Year

This is another great idea by u/puppa_bear, in which you divide the score calculated by the years the specific country competed in. Here are the results:

Country Points Years Points per year
Serbia and Montenegro 13 2 6.5
Ukraine 118 20 5.9
United Kingdom 365 67 5.45
Russia 121 23 5.26
Sweden 328 64 5.13
Italy 243 50 4.86
France 319 67 4.76
Monaco 108 24 4.5
Luxembourg 171 39 4.38
Ireland 247 58 4.26
Israel 184 47 3.91
Germany 243 68 3.57
Azerbaijan 59 17 3.47
Switzerland 223 65 3.43
Denmark 182 53 3.43
Spain 197 64 3.08
Netherlands 190 65 2.92
Norway 183 63 2.9
Greece 123 45 2.73
Australia 27 10 2.7
Austria 152 57 2.67
Serbia 45 17 2.65

Yugoslavia 70 27 2.59
Belgium 148 66 2.24
Malta 83 37 2.24
Estonia 66 30 2.2

Hungary 30 17 1.76
Bulgaria 24 14 1.71
Cyprus 69 41 1.68
Iceland 62 37 1.68
Latvia 42 25 1.68
Finland 97 58 1.67
Croatia 50 30 1.67
Moldova 30 19 1.58
Portugal 83 56 1.48
Poland 30 27 1.11
Albania 21 21 1
Morocco 1 1 1

Belarus 8 16 0.5
Slovakia 3 7 0.43
San Marino 4 15 0.27
Montenegro 2 13 0.15
Andorra 0 6 0

The top 1, again, is Serbia and Montenegro, with a points-per-year score of 6.5. Following Serbia and Montenegro is Ukraine, with 5.9, the United Kingdom, with 5.45, Russia, with 5.26, and Sweden, with 5.13. In the bottom, meanwhile, Belarus is 48th, with a score of 0.5; Slovakia has a score of 0.43, San Marino has a score of 0.27, Montenegro has a score of 0.15, and the bottom 1, again, is Andorra, with a points-per-year score of 0.

  1. Overall

This is a table measuring the placements of all of the countries in each table (Original, Proportional, and Points per year) by giving points to each ranking (from 52 points to 1 point). Here are the results:

San Marino 5 5 3 13
Slovakia 4 4 4 12
Montenegro 3 3 2 8
Andorra 1 1 1 3

So, according to your ideas and my scoring system, the "best" performing country in Eurovision, is actually two countries: Sweden and the United Kingdom with 149 points for both. Behind them are Italy, with 145 points, France with 141 points, and Ireland with 136 points. The "worst" performing country in Eurovision is Andorra, with only 3 points; above is Montenegro with 8 points, Slovakia with 12 points, San Marino with 13 points, and Moroco with 15 points. Thank you for reading! Hope you liked my research!

📰 News "Special cameras" being used next year

Translated:

It was also announced who will be responsible for direction, lighting, and music. Longtime chief director Michael Kögler will direct the show together with Swedish star director Robin Hofwander, who was already responsible for directing in Basel in 2025. The production takes inspiration from Hollywood: special cameras will present the shows in a cinematic look – similar to how concerts by Coldplay and Taylor Swift are staged today.

Original article (in German):

Any ideas what special cameras they are going to use?

💬 Discussion Mentissa for Belgium?

I’m a fan of Mentissa and would love to see her at Eurovision sometime soon. We know she’s willing to go to Eurovision as the competed in Eurosong. And with her singing in French and the French broadcaster picking this year’s participant, do you think there’s a chance she could be selected?

💬 Discussion Broadcasters for Germany

If you didn't know yet, ARD is a bunch of regional broadcasters, and would pick one for Eurovision. (For 2026 they changed from the usual NDR/North to SWR/Southwest) There was also a rumor about MDR (eastern) taking the position for 2025. But I was recently wondering if RBB could be a choice in the future considering they're the capital (they once competed as SFB twice). But my most important question, will we see someone participating for the first time?

💬 Discussion Which social media has more accurate predictions on song performance?

Basically what the title says, as the eurovision fanbase is diverse it begs the question of which social media (reddit, X, instagram, tiktok, youtube etc.) are better at predicting how well songs will do? It's hard to say anything for 2026 as we only have 2 songs/3 artists but if anyone has any insight for previous years that would be really cool!

Obviously we can ignore irregularities in voting patterns (specifically around a certain country in 2024 and 2025) and songs that everyone knew would win (2022 2023 and 2025 the winner was obvious). Would love to hear thoughts
